Description
Device for cutting weeds.
Switzerland. Patent specification No. 114859 describes some embodiments of a weeding device in which the cutting edge of the knife attached to a handle extends perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the handle. It has now been shown that the cutting of weeds with such weeding devices is not always flawlessly possible, because knives with such fail. The cutting edges are not easy to pull through the ground and the weeds are often not cut but only bent.
The present invention relates to a device for cutting weeds, for example in garden beds, potato and beet fields, in which the cutting edge of the knife runs at least partially obliquely to the longitudinal direction of the handle in order to improve the cutting effect.
In the accompanying drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in some exemplary embodiments, namely FIG. 1 shows a side view of the lower part of such a device, FIG. 2 shows a plan view of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows a side view of a variant, FIG. 4 shows a top view of a another embodiment and FIG. 4a a detail thereof; 5 and 6 each illustrate a plan view of a knife.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, a represents the lower end of a stem, to which an iron grommet b is attached by means of a through bolt c. d is a threaded bolt with a conical head, which is fastened with nut e in the lower end of the iron grommet. f is an iron crosspiece to which a U-shaped bent knife g is attached by welding; the connection between the parts f and g can also be made by screwing or riveting instead of welding. The cutting frame formed by parts f and g can also consist of a single piece.
The cutting frame is screwed onto the threaded bolt d with the nut h. It can be exchanged at will for another Sehneidrahmen, whose knife part parallel to the crossbar f is shorter or longer; a cutting frame can also be attached to each end of the handle in a fixed or adjustable manner, one of which has a shorter and the other a longer knife handle parallel to the crossbar f. The attachment of the cutting knife at the end of the handle can also be done in such a way that the transverse bar is screwed directly onto the thread of the threaded bolt, which is provided with an angular shoulder or is conically shaped.
For the purpose of making it easier to cut, the knife can also be ground hollow. The knife g is designed to cut almost over its entire length and its chord z runs at the front of the part directed transversely to the handle, from both sides straight and at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the handle or. towards the cutting direction towards the middle, so that it forms an obtuse angle there (Fig. 2).
The cutting edge of the knife part, which is oriented transversely to the handle, protrudes over the two legs of the knife so that it can be sharpened from the inside out on a whetstone.
If the device according to Fig. 1 with its knife g slightly inserted into the ground and pulled by means of the handle below the surface of the ground, you can cut off the weeds and loosen the soil without moving soil and without the next to the ba. Damage to plants and cultures in the knife.
Fig. 3 shows a device with a cutting frame attached at an angle to the handle. 4 shows an embodiment in which the knife is semicircular. FIG. 4a shows the development of the knife according to FIG. 4. FIG. 5 shows a knife whose cutting edge i recedes from both sides towards the center, while FIG. 6 illustrates a knife whose cutting edge recedes from the center to both sides . The knives according to FIGS. 5 and 6 are to be attached directly to the handle at 7G.
