Film drive mechanism in cinematographic devices. The present invention relates to an intermittent film drive mechanism in cinematographic apparatus of the type in which the film is driven by claws.
According to the invention, the film drive cam has its axis in vertical alignment with the median line of the film and acts on the claws by means of a carriage guided on each of its sides.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention, as well as variant details.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a mechanism according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a section taken along line A-B of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale, the rapid interchangeability system of the claw; Fig. 5 shows the section of an alternative embodiment of the claw holder and FIG. 6 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the claw holder mounted on the penetration cam.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the film f receives its vertical movement by means of a triangular advancement cam with curvilinear sides 1 mounted on the transmission shaft 2 and which rotates between the lips 3 and 4 of a rectangular carriage 6 which is guided in its reciprocating movement by the vertical slides 6. On the carriage 5 is mounted the claw support 8 in which slides the claw holder 7. The latter, held in place by the guide plate 15 and the fixing screws 16 and 17, for example carries one or two claws 9 intended to penetrate into the perforations of the film and to drive it.
On the advancement cam 1 are fixed in a foolproof position, by means of three screws 11, the penetration cam 12 as well as the shutter 13.
The penetration cam 12 constituted by a stamped sheet giving it great rigidity has an outer contour in relation to the construction characteristics of the advancement cam. The penetration cam engages between two tenons 10 of the claw holder 7. The stamped profile of the cam has a ramp which communicates, in its rotation, a horizontal alternating movement native to the claw holder 7.
The shutter 13 concentric to the shaft 2 comprises in the example shown three blades corresponding to the opening and closing time of the projection window 14.
When the transmission shaft 2 rotates, it drives the cams 1 and 12 as well as the shutter 13 in its movement. The advancement cam 1 communicates an alternating vertical movement to the carriage 5 guided in the slides 6 while the cam penetration 12 transmits a reciprocating horizontal movement to the claw holder 7 sliding in the claw support 8 by means of the tenons of the claw holder 10, the guide plate 15 ensuring the fixity of the assembly by means of the screws 16 and 17 .
The horizontal movement of the claw holder 7 causes the claws 9 to penetrate the perforations of the film. At the end of this movement and during a period when the retracting blade of the shutter 13 passes in front of the window 14, the film is driven vertically from top to bottom by the rotation of the advancement cam. and by means of the chain 5 sliding in the guides 6.
This construction offers the advantage of being simple and robust and of bringing together the various components constituting it in a very small space. The carriage 5 being guided vertically on both sides over very large spans supports only very minimal wear. The advancement cam 1 also acting on the carriage 5 at symmetrical points lying in alignment with the median line of the film, the tensile force is exerted along this median line of the film, which ensures very good operation. softness of the system, as well as great fixity of the projected images and the minimum wear of the organs.
An alternative embodiment of the invention consists in giving a slightly oblique arrangement to the claw support 8 (FIG. 5). The claws 9 are not arranged exactly in the extension of the claw holder 7, but slightly raised to be normal to the plane of the film; the two tenons 10 are, moreover, parallel to this same plane so as to fit normally on the edge of the penetration cam 12.
Thanks to this arrangement, the path of the claws 9 is slightly inclined with respect to the plane of the film and the friction of the claws 9 on the edge of the notches of the film at the time of the penetration or withdrawal of the claws is very appreciably reduced, which contributes to reducing the wear of the film and to increasing its duration.
It should be noted that in order to proceed with the removal of the claw holder 7 (fig. 4) there is no need to dismantle any main part of the movement. Indeed, the front fixing screws 16 of the claw support 8 allow by their construction, by imparting to them a rotational movement of half a turn, to release the guide plate 15 thus making it possible to withdraw the claw holder 7 vertically. The fixing screws 17 serve as a rear stop for the guide plate 15. In the drawing, the screws 16 are in the position allowing the release of the plate 15.
In the second variant embodiment of FIG. 6, the tenons 10 are removably mounted allowing their rapid replacement in the event of wear or breakage.
