Description

Camera for trichrome photography. It is known that three-color photography by the Ducos de Hau ron process and derivative processes first requires the production of three selected negatives corresponding to three suitably chosen colors, such as blue-violet, green and the Red. The selection of colors is carried out by means of appropriate screens. The images on the three negatives must be exactly alike so as to allow a rigorous superposition of the three positives to obtain the reproduction of the subject.

A large number of various devices have already been produced to simultaneously obtain three monochrome images of a subject.

The present invention relates to a camera for trichromatic photo graphy, particularly suitable for the production of small-sized images and having the advantage of high luminosity making it possible to take snapshots. This apparatus is characterized by the combination of three objectives with a prism and a semi-transparent reflector established in relation to the objectives corresponding to the red and green images so as to bring the axes of these objectives virtually into coincidence.

The appended schematic drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

The apparatus shown comprises a black chamber 1 divided into three compartments and comprising, on the front face, three similar objectives with parallel axes, 2, 3 and 4, corresponding respectively to three sensitive plates, 6 and 7, placed focus on goals. (These sensitive plates can be replaced by films.) The sensitive plate 7 is intended to give the blue-violet image of the subject. It comprises an ordinary sensitive layer which is consequently sensitive to blue-violet. but is not sensitive to other colors. Objective 4 forms the image on this plate without it being necessary to interpose a screen. Plates 6 and 5 are intended to give respectively the images of red-orange and green.

Color selection is then necessary and is achieved by means of colored screens and appropriate plate sensitization. Plate 6 is red sensitive and a red-orange screen 8 is placed between objective 3 and plate 6. Similarly, plate 5 is green sensitive and a green screen 9 is placed behind the lens. jective 2.

Screens 8 and 9 can also be placed in front of objectives 3 and 2.

In order to increase the action of light on plates 5 and 6, it is advantageous to use for plate 6 an emulsion sensitive to red, but not sensitive to green and for plate 5 an emulsion sensitive to green and no to red; these emulsions are necessarily, moreover, sensitive to blue and violet. It is then possible to use for screens 8 and 9 a yellow tint instead of red and green, which is advantageous from the point of view of exposure time, because the yellow screens allow more light to pass through than the others. .

The apparatus thus constituted with three objectives would give the images of the three fundamental colors, but, given the spacing of the objectives, the three images would be comparable to those given by a stereoscopic apparatus and therefore would not be exactly superimposable, and this is why an optical device explained below brings the optical axes of objectives 2 and 3 into coincidence.

First of all, since the apparatus is intended for small plates, the distance between the optical axes of objectives 3 and 4 is small, so that the differences between the images of plates 6 and 7 are reduced to a minimum. . On the other hand, it has been noticed, in the execution of color photographs by the tri chrome process, that it is necessary, for the good appearance of the photographs, to obtain an exact superposition of the images corresponding to the orange-red and green, which consequently become positive in blue and red respectively; but that there is no serious drawback to the fact that the image corresponding to blue-vi (det which is printed in yellow is not exactly marked.

This observation is used in the constitution of the camera represented. A strict coincidence of the images on the plates 6 and 7 is not sought, the slight differences due to the deviation of the objectives 3 and 4 having no detrimental effect on the good appearance of the images. .

As was said above, it is necessary that the images of orange-red and green be identical; it is for this purpose that a prism 10 and a semi-transparent mirror 11 forming a reflector are placed in front of the objectives 2 and 3.

This semi-transparent mirror 11 is here constituted by two prisms 12 and 13 placed side by side, the face of the prism 12 being for example covered with a very thin platinum deposit - so that a light ray represented by the arrow 14 is doubled. , one part continues its path in a straight line towards the objective 3 as shown by the arrow 15 and the other part of the light ray, represented by the arrow 16, is reflected towards the prism 10 which reflects it totally towards the 'objective 2.

This arrangement amounts to making the optical axes of the two objectives 2 and 3 coincide, so that the images on the plates 5 and 6 are identical; the slight differences due to the fact that the light rays which reach the objectives 2 and 3 do not travel exactly the same distance are entirely negligible. To avoid any loss of light, the prisms 10 and 12 are glued together.

The semi-transparent mirror made up of the two contiguous prisms 12 and 13 can advantageously be obtained by one. non-continuous deposit of silver forming a fine Cree checkerboard grid, that is to say comprising an equal number of small reflective squares and small clear squares. The squares can also be replaced by a network of parallel lines alternately clear and reflective.

A block of glass with parallel faces 17 is added in front of the objective 4 in order to obtain that the rays forming the image of blue through the objective 4 have a step similar to that of rays which produce the red image through the objective 2, with the aim of obtaining the greatest possible similarity of the images.

The three plates 5, 6 and 7 being thus exposed simultaneously produce three negatives which are then used to obtain a positive trichrome image by means of one of the known methods. As the images are small, because of the necessary approximation of the objectives, they can be enlarged to give prints of common dimensions.

The optical arrangement of the camera is particularly suitable for producing a cinematographic camera, the three plates 5, 6 and 7 then being replaced by three films driven simultaneously.
