Description
Verfahren zur Verbesserung der Korrosionsbeständigkeit von Formstücken aus Nagnesiumlegierungen. Werkstücke aus hochprozentigen Magne- siumlegierungen besitzen häufig oberflächliche Verunreinigungen, welche zu einer beschleu nigten Korrosion Veranlassung geben. So zum Beispiel sind Gussstücke mit einer Gusshaut überzogen, welche leicht angreifbare Verbin dungen des Magnesiums enthält.
Gepresste, gewalzte oder durch andere Mittel verformte Teile haben häufig eine Haut, welche Eisen und verkohlte organische Produkte enthält, durch deren Gegenwart selbst nur in Spuren wahrscheinlich infolge der Bildung von Lokal elementen die korrodierende Wirkung der angreifenden Substanzen erhöht wird.
Es ist gefunden worden, dass diese Unbe ständigkeit gegen Korrosion, zum Beispiel im Falle der Gussstücke, beseitigt werden kann, wenn diese in einer wässerigen Lösung von Bicbromaten (beispielsweise mit bis etwa 100 gr Cr07t im Liter) einige Zeit, beispiels weise eine oder mehrere Stunden, gekocht werden. Es lässt sich diese Oberflächenbe handlung noch durch eine Vorbehandlung der Stücke in verdünnter beispielsweise 10 /oiger Salpetersäure verbessern, durch welche die Gusshaut zunächst blank -gebeizt und von verschiedenen vom Giessen in den Sandformen herstammenden Verunreinigungen befreit wird.
Im Falle der durch Walzen, Pressen, Spritzguss und andere Mittel verformten Werk stücke aus diesen Legierungen können eben falls die Oberflächen durch Behandlung mit dem kochenden Bichromatbad, welchem ge gebenenfalls eine Vorbeize mit Salpetersäure vorausgegangen ist, in einen gegen den An griff von wässerigen Lösungen aussergewöhn lich beständigen Zustand übergeführt werden. Die durch die Bichromatbehandlung entste hende veränderte Oberfläche weist ausserdem die vorteilhafte Eigenschaft auf, aufgetragene Lackschichten dauerhaft festzuhalten.

Workpieces made of high-percentage magnesium alloys often have superficial impurities, which give rise to accelerated corrosion. For example, castings are covered with a casting skin that contains easily attackable compounds of magnesium.
Pressed, rolled or deformed parts by other means often have a skin which contains iron and carbonized organic products, the presence of which, even in traces, probably increases the corrosive effect of the attacking substances as a result of the formation of local elements.
It has been found that this resistance to corrosion, for example in the case of castings, can be eliminated if they are in an aqueous solution of bicbromatics (for example with up to about 100 gr Cr07t per liter) for some time, for example one or more Hours to be cooked. This surface treatment can be improved by pretreating the pieces in dilute, for example, 10% nitric acid, by means of which the casting skin is initially pickled and freed from various impurities resulting from the casting in the sand molds.
In the case of workpieces made of these alloys by rolling, pressing, injection molding and other means, the surfaces can also be treated with a boiling bichromate bath, which may have been preceded by pre-pickling with nitric acid, to protect them from attack by aqueous solutions be transferred to a stable state. The changed surface resulting from the bichromate treatment also has the advantageous property of permanently retaining applied layers of lacquer.
