Description
Process for welding aluminum and aluminum alloys with other retals. The present invention aims to improve the previous methods for welding aluminum and aluminum alloys with other metals, in which one was bound to exact compliance with certain temperatures and pressures. According to experience, however, small deviations cannot be avoided in factory 1, ionized production, which have an unfavorable influence on the quality of the product and make production more expensive.
A closer examination of the connection process has shown that most failures are due to insufficient pressure. Aluminum or At the welding temperature to be used, aluminum alloy is so plastic that the pressure required for an intimate connection cannot work through to the joint surface, but is rendered ineffective as a result of previously occurring deformation. The present invention overcomes this drawback by focusing on the other.
Metal first an at least partially made of aluminum weld intermediate layer is applied. This intermediate layer, the thickness of which can depend on the dimensions of the metals to be joined, can be welded securely and firmly to the other metal, because the strong pressure that is required acts through this intermediate layer on the composite surface with practically no damping.
Any thick piece of aluminum or aluminum alloy can now be welded onto this intermediate layer without further difficulties, because a low temperature can be used to connect these similar metals on the one hand and a pressure below the deformation limit is sufficient on the other.
The welding intermediate layer can consist of aluminum with additions of preferably those metals which reduce the melting and welding point. Such additives include, for example, cadmium, wigmuth, tin, zinc, which of course can also be used in mixtures. This even makes it possible to weld aluminum and aluminum alloys together with metals in a strong form in one work step, after the intermediate welding layer has been placed between the connection points beforehand.
You can of course weld the alloy welded interlayer onto the metals beforehand in a special operation: -
