Description

Process for the production of substances that can be used as wetting agents, cleaning agents and dispersants in the textile industry and related industries. Processes have already been described for the production of substances which can be used in various branches of technology as wetting agents, cleaning agents and dispersing agents by using high molecular weight alcohols of the fatty or oleic acid series.

It has now been found that particularly valuable products are obtained if the sulfurization is carried out in the presence of water-binding organic agents such as anhydrous organic acids, their anhydrides or chlorides. Other strong sulphonating agents, such as fuming sulfuric acid, chlorosulphonic acid and the like, come into consideration as sulphurating agents in addition to concentrated sulfuric acid.

The used amounts of anhydrous, organic acid or anhydride or chloride can also be more than one mole to <B> 1 </B> mole of alcohol. They are not included in the end product. <I> Example: </I> <B> 100 kg </B> Oleinalkobol are mixed with 40 <B> kg </B> acetic anhydride and mixed with <B> 100 </B> <B> kg </ B> concentrated sulfuric acid with cooling at a temperature of, for example, <B> 0 </B> to <B> 100 </B>.

The products obtained in this way are characterized by their higher content of organically bound sulfuric acid and, as a result, by higher resistance to the acidic substances in water, as well as acids and alkalis. They have excellent wetting, penetrating, shatinizing and emulsifying properties and are therefore particularly suitable as additives to treatment liquors in the textile and leather industries.

Their special property of making the textile fibers soft and supple without giving them a sticky feel makes them appear mainly suitable for avivage purposes.
