Method and device of plowing. Among the various known methods of mechanical tamping of the earth, some are reduced to the use of more or less sophisticated and powerful devices, working in the same way as the plow, cutting, lifting and turning over the earth; the others tend to loosen the earth by crumbling it by means of real strawberries whose axis, placed horizontally, p-ogress parallel to itself in the direction of the furrow.
The present invention relates to a plowing process consisting of dividing the earth to a certain thickness from from the surface of the soil, raising this divided earth, pour it onto a sieving surface placed at a certain height above the ground, tainiser it by letting the sifted earth fall back to the attacked ground and rejecting on the surface of the plowed part sieving refusals and mixing a fertilizer with the divided earth before it falls back on the ground, all these operations being carried out immediately.
By this process, while the plots of plowed land are brought into contact with the air, the roots and weeds are left out of the ground and the soil, thoroughly mixed with the correct amount of fertilizer, is immediately put into condition. to receive the seeds in good conditions.
The subject of the invention is also a device particularly designed for the implementation of this method and comprising to this effect, on the same rolling frame, several helical cutters each having its axis of rotation in the vertical plane parallel to the running direction of the chassis, a screening member arranged to receive the earth divided and raised by said strawberries, and a fertilizer distributor. The drawing represents schematically, by by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partially, in section ; Fig: 2 is a rear elevation; Fig. 3 is a top shot.
A rigid frame 1 mounted on wheels 2, 2 'carries a carriage 3 capable of moving parallel to itself between slides 4 integral with the frame 1 or rigidly fixed to it. In the drawing, these slides are shown vertical for simplicity, but it must be understood from now on that they can also be given an oblique position, rising towards the rear, as will be explained below.
The carriage 3 carries a motor 5 which may be preferably, but not necessarily, an electric motor, which, through the intermediary of motion transmission members suitable, for example of a worm 6 meshing with a helical wheel 7 keyed itself on a transverse shaft 8 rotating in bearings integral with the carriage and provided with threaded parts 9 meshing with helical wheels 10,
rotates an even number of cutters 11 in faith of Archimedean screws whose axes are located at the intersection of a transverse plane parallel to the blade < B> to the direction of the slides 4 and to so many vertical planes parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine. In the example shown, the slides being assumed to be vertical, the Il cutters therefore have their vertical axis; this axis is capable of receiving, in its own direction, a translational movement integrally with the parallel movement of the carriage 3 in its slides 4.
To produce this parallel displacement, each of the two heads of the carriage 3 faith-me, in its respective slide, movable nut for A robust screw 13 mounted in the axis of said slide journaled in the upper and lower cross members of the same slide, and the two screws can be operated together, to accomplish equal displacements, with using any suitable mechanism, shown here by a common shaft 14 actuated by a handwheel or a crank (not shown in the drawing),
this shaft carrying two worm screws each attacking a helical wheel 15, keyed at the upper end of the corresponding screw 13.
The helix of each of the II cutters is extended to its upper part by a pallet 12, preferably inclined. in the opposite direction to the propeller, in order to allow easy evacuation of the earth, and at their lower part, the cutters are fitted with members (not shown) reinforcing their leading edge, to make it easier to crumble the earth, these members being easily removable for replacement. The pitch of the cutters will preferably be dext- rorsum for all the cutters located on the same side of the longitudinal axis of the machine, and sinistroi-simi for all those on the other side of this axis, in order to balance the forces. on the chassis.
The fi-ease rotates, on the other hand, in housings provided in a box divided into two parts 16 and 17, along a plane passing through the axis of said fi -ais. The two half-boxes fit quite closely the cylinder dre envelope of each, of the propellers, they are represented to in fig. 1 cut by a plane passing through line a-a in fig. 3 to allow you to see the strawberry propeller, as well as the path of the plowed land.
The front part 16 of the box is fixed to the frame 1; it is adjustable in height so that its lower edge can be brought to a few centimeters of the ground. The rear part 17 of the box is fixed to the carriage 3,
it is also adjustable in height so that its lower edge can be adjusted to a few centimeters above the lower end of the 11 cutters. The rear half-box 17 is open at its upper part and stiffened here by a strip of sheet metal, the front of which follows the sinuositos of the box, slums that the rear is rec tilinear. A little below this strip is placed an inclined plane 18 formed by a sheet of a certain width, extended by a grid 19 with spaced bars.
This inclined plane 18, together with the grid 19, is supported by an articulated parallelogram 20, which can oscillate around two journals 21 fixed to the carriage 8, </ B> and moving, therefore, jointly with it. The assembly formed by the parallelogram 20 and the inclined plane 18-19 can receive a reciprocating movement by means of a crank 22 directly controlled by the shaft 8 which imprints on strawberries 11 their rotational movement.
Above the inclined plane 18 is disposed, if necessary removably, a fertilizer distributor 23 with adjustable flow, for example a hopper, which distributor is fixed at a suitable height on the chassis 1, and controlled in a known manner by one of the rear wheels of the chassis, so as to debit the fertilizer as soon as the machine moves forward.
The movement of the entire machine can be ensured by any known means, either by a coupling or a tractor, or by a cable acting on a hook 24; but it is also conceivable that the machine can move by itself if the driving wheels are made and if they are made to operate either by the motor .5, or, if necessary, by a .special motor to this effect and in a manner moreover well known. The dimensions of the propeller cutters, their pitch and their speed of rotation vary greatly depending on the type of machine and the nature of the soil to to plow.
The operation of the device is as follows .
The carriage 3 being raised to the upper extremity of its stroke, the motor 5 controlling the rotation of the cutters is started. We then lower the carriage for - te-cutters 3 to the depth chosen For the work, then we move the machine towards forward by the means chosen for its propulsion.
The soil crumbled by the strawberries is raised by them in the box until the back warning; it is thrown by the pallets 12 onto the grid 19 to which the articulated parallelogram 20 imbues jerks; it is thus sieved and falls back, leaving to the sui-face, because of their relative lightness, all the roots and the weeds.
Because the fertilizer distributor delivers as the machine advances, the fertilizer mixes] thoroughly with the soil as it as leaves. the jerk grid, and finally the two rear wheels 2 'of the chassis, while rolling on the plowed ground, trace two small parallel paths which determine the width of the log .
It is of course possible to deactivate the fertilizer broadcaster if 01) so wishes.
As has been said, the above description applies to the case where the loops have their vertical axis - the invention is not limited to </ B> this particular shape, but also extends in case the axis of each milling cutter, while being contained in a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine, is tilted downwards towards the front in the usual direction of the counter of a plow, so to form with the surface of the ground Lin an angle of at least 30 degrees.
The de Part man immediately sees the modifications that it is possible to make to the relative arrangement of certain components, such as in particular the slides 4 and the box 16, 17, without the need for further emphasis.
