Description
Process for treating cold-swelling starch and vegetable glue in such a way that the formation of clumps is avoided when they are dissolved. In the previously known processes for the production of cold-swelling starch, flatbreads are first produced, which are then subjected to grinding in order to be able to use the material in a pulverized state. The grinding process inevitably produces such a large amount of fine material in the form of dust that most of these products cannot be mixed without lumps.
Coarse grinding results in less fine material, but the product cannot swell quickly enough and is consequently unusable. This drawback is known, and methods have already been described in German patents Nos. 389023 and 371409 by means of which chemical remedies are provided.
The idea on which the present process is based is to enable the flatbreads to be broken up so that, without leaving any waste products, an end product of a certain uniform grain size results. In the present process, the grain size can be selected according to the solubility of the product in question, so that the product can be stirred in cold water without lumps and yet swells sufficiently quickly.
Example 1: Flatbreads made from cold swelling starch are pressed between two counter-rotating rollers. These are provided with knives or grooves that run on one roller in the longitudinal direction of the axis, while on the other roller they are perpendicular to the axis. The removal of the knives or grooves gives the grain size.
Example 2: The flatbread is pressed through a heavily armored sieve of a certain mesh size by means of a strong but elastic pressure that slowly changes its position in relation to the sieve, whereby one of the Mesh size corresponding grain size is created.
