Description
Process for the production of high-percentage cyanamides of the metals of the 2nd group of the periodic table. The main patent describes a process for the production of high-percentage cyanamides of the metals of the 2nd group of the periodic table by passing ammonia over the carbonates, in which temperatures above 500 are used.
It has been found that the formation of cyanamide can be accelerated considerably if this results in the reaction according to the equation Me "COs -f- 2 NFIa = 112enCN2 + 3 H20 </ B > The water that forms is constantly removed and the resulting reaction equilibrium is continually disturbed in this way. The water can be removed physically by reducing the partial pressure, condensation, etc., or by chemical means.
All bodies that easily chemically bind the water or react with it are suitable for chemical removal. So you can use gases that are mixed with the starting gases and react immediately in the reaction space with the water formed. In many cases it is advantageous to remove the water using substances that are added to the process in solid form, because here one saves the inconvenience of gas production mixing and processing.
These substances can either be arranged behind your actual reaction space or be immediately missed with the solid starting product to be implemented. Since the main reaction must not be disturbed by the substances added and, in particular, the decomposition of ammonia must be avoided, the range of bodies in question is limited. For example, carbon in any form or carbon-containing compounds have proven to be suitable, whereby care should be taken that any coal used,
Carbon or carbonaceous material does not contain too much ammonia-decomposing compounds. In this case, the water is removed according to the equation C + H: "0 = CO-f-Hz.
It is particularly advantageous to use substances which, either themselves or in the form obtained in the course of the process, increase the fertilizing effect of the calcium yanamide obtained, for example phosphorus peroxide.
It can be advantageous to briquette the starting material with the additives and to throw under the action of ammonia in this state or in granular form.
