Description

       boucleurs ac tionnés indépendamment des moyens d'enool- lage et -de vulcanisation.

  La fi-.1 représente un appareil pour fa  briquer un tissu, celui-ci comportant desélé-  ments     formeurs    -de boucles semblablesà ceux  de la     fig.   3 du brevet principal, mais -dans  lesquels les verges du -châssis et la lame     bou-          eleuse    ainsi que les moyens de retenue des  boucles sont     in#elinés    sous un angle, de ma  nièreà former des     bouclesquisont    inclinées  par rapport au plan des bases, ou surfaceà  découvert, des boucles;

    La.     fig.   9- est un détailà échelle plus       Zn     ,grande, en     Mévation,    montrant, entre autre.  le bâti de support mobile avec ses éléments       formeur    de boucles et de retenue, ce bâti étant  monté sur des figes- de guidage fixées latéra  lement au     bâtide    base -de l'appareil;  La     fig.   3 est un détail, en -coupe     tra-ns-          versale    suivant     III-III        (fig.    2);

    La     fig.    4 est une vue, partie en -éléva  tion, partie en coupe, correspondantà la       fi*    2 et montrantla. position des éléments       boucleur    et de     r--tenue   immédiatement avant  la formation d'une nouvelle boucle;

    La     fig'.   5     est    un détailà échelle plus  ,grande, en élévation, d'une plaque supportant  la, lame     bourleuse,    la lame -de retenue -de     bon-          cle,    ainsi que -des     pressé-boucle,    qui tiennent  les portions de base des boucles dans la     po-          sÎtion.    priseà la fin de l'opération de     forma-          mation    de la boucle;

    La. fig. 6 est un détail eneoupe, suivant 11, ligne VI-VI de la fig. 5, -et La fig. 7 est un plan d'un morceau d'une nappe, représentant les fibres lâches deqWlle- ci disposées dans la direction générale de la. longueur de la, nappe.

  Apparatus for making a pile fabric. The claim of the main patent relates to an apparatus for making a pile fabric, this apparatus comprising means for forming in a web of fibers a series of transverse loops the base parts of which are located. substantially in the same plane, means for coating with a #rubber glue the surface -containing the of base parts of loops thus formed, means for applying a base -in flexible material to the portion thus glued, loops and means for vulcanizing the glue to the rubber while said loops are rigidly held in place.

  The apparatus according to the present invention is a special embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the. main patent claim. In this apparatus, the means for forming in a sheet of fibers a series of transverse loops to by means of spacers or rods carried by a frame and separated by ' n spaces in which the material,

  must be formed the loops is engaged - by -means of a loop-forming element, and -a element- retaining y </ B > associated to hold one of the sides or portion of the material while allowing to the other side of it to advance to form a loop between yards, have a movable support frame for the loop-forming and retaining elements, so to allow them to descend and to go up, and a control, to aeration by the motor shaft of the device,

   to achieve a relative translational movement -between 'the yard-carrying frame and said frame with looping elements to the effect of bringing -and-maintaining the looping elements to their own bouck-forming position, relative to the Verges chassis.

   Preferably , the rods are ', arranged in one or more frames, so as to constitute shapes moved along a straight path.

  n The apparatus can advantageously be established so as to to form a series of adjacent loops between yards -of a -frame tilted in relation to to the base of this, -so that a substantially continuous surface, at the bases of the loops, is formed and the loops extend under a certain au- 0.

  "the relative to the plane of the bases, so that when a suitable bottom is glued to the surface and the tops of the loops are cut, the free fibers are found # available. Sées obliquely with respect to to, the bonded surface, forming a to pile surface - in which the fibers; are - arranged substantially in parallelism.

  The apparatus allows the use of loose fibers, in the form of a web, to the distinction of yarn, rope, twine, sausage or similar materials which are a- proposed I use- that now, to obtain a with pile fabric suitable -for hangings -and various other uses. A for this purpose, -we use , a web of loose fibers - in which the individual fibers are preferably, laid out in the general direction of the length of the web, so that a greater proportion of the fibers are attached,

   after the web has been looped -and the, y glue has been applied, that -that would be the -case if the fibers were arranged in all, -direction. In this apparatus, the fibers are subjected, in the forming means. of loops, to an action which has a strong propertion of the non-parallel fibers of the.

   tablecloth appreciably in parallel -in this one before the looped part -of the tablecloth is connected to the bottom. It goes however without saying that the forming means # of loops in question act on a web that the fibers of -this are or not arranged more or less, in parallelism, and-that one could have made use of wire or other material, in order to produce the folding action looping or looping desired, with this apparatus, a pile fabric can be made using fibers of such a nature that they cannot be spun, -unless mixed with others. fibers, and which have relatively little value, although it goes without saying that one can,

   if desired, make df # fibers of substantially any -r # nrv. including including animal-, vegetable., # - mineral fibers, together or separately, to obtain the product. For the manufacture of rugs or rugs, for example, hair is preferably used which is unsuitable for figging, such as goat hair, which has. relatively little value, but that, however.

    , is more suitable for the manufacture of the product referred to here than fibers which can be spun, for this reason, than internal friction, in carpets or rugs made from them - </ B> that is to say the. friction produced by the friction -of the pile-fibers against each other - is much less, which causes -than the resistance of the product to, the wear is greatly increased.

   The difference in to wear resistance is apparently due to the fact that fibers such as wool fibers, which are to spun, present on their surface minim (, - s protrusions which give rise to a -interlacing in adhesion of the fibers to each other, slum # than hairs like goat hairs, for example , have a surface on which there are few protrusions, so that the fibers have little tendency to to adhere to each other.

   When walking on a carpet or carpet containing wool fibers, the fibers of the pile rub against each other and the friction produced causes considerable wear. which results in a gradual disintegration of the rug. In the product referred to here, which allows the use of goat hair, the individual fibers rub against each other when walking on the rug, without considerable friction and there is, Therefore. little wear.

   In addition, by the use of a a-- luthiant agent -composed of vulcanized rubber, zng as well as a flexible bottom in textile fabric, one obtains when walking on the material, a damping effect The accompanying drawing # shows, to by way of example, an embodiment of the obiel of the invention. The means for coating the surface containing the base parts of the loops with glue, and the means for carrying out the vulcanization have not been shown.

   These means can (-I indeed be established in a manner resembling that described in the main patent for the establishment of pile fabrics. in long continuous pieces These last means can eons-_ fituer a separate mechanism (mechanism 1) orcleur, and to which we can bring the products arranged in their forms, obtained in or more mechanisms.

       loopers actuated independently of the unwinding and vulcanizing means.

  The fi.  1  represents an apparatus for making a fabric, this one comprising  elements-forming loops similar  to  those of fig.  3  of the main patent, but -in which the edges of the -frame and the burr blade as well as the means for retaining the buckles are in # elined at an angle, so as to   form loops which are inclined with respect to the plane of the bases, or surface  to  uncovered, loops;

    Fig.  9-  is a detail  to  larger Zn scale, large, in elevation, showing, among other things. the movable support frame with its loop-forming and retaining elements, this frame being mounted on guide  -  figs fixed laterally to the base frame -of the apparatus; Fig.  3  is a detail, cross-section along III-III (fig. 2);

    Fig. 4 is a view, part in-elevation, part in section, corresponding  to  the fi * 2 and showing  the.  position of the looper and retaining elements < U> immediately  before forming a new loop;

    Fig '.  5  is a detail  to  larger scale, in elevation, of a plate supporting the tamper blade, the cylinder retainer blade, as well as - press-loop, which holds the base portions of the loops in the position. take  at  the end of the loop formatting operation;

    Fig. 6 is a sectional detail, along 11, line VI-VI of fig. 5, -and Fig. 7 is a shot of a piece of a web, showing the loose fibers of qWlle- ci arranged in the general direction of the. length of the tablecloth.

  In order to manufacture the pile glued to fabric using the apparatus described below, the raw material is preferably prepared first to < / B> use to form the pile, a material consisting of -hair, wool, jute or other fibers or fiber mixtures, by passing it -in a beater-peeler or a machine or screwdriver, depending on the nature of the material may require it, in order to more or less separate the fibers and remove the foreign matter.

    The -material is then placed on a beater-spreader or a carding machine, with a view to disintegrating them. fibrous masses remaining in this material and f form the fibers into a web of substantially uniform thickness.

    The fibers are preferably placed on an endless conveyor in such a way that the greater part of the fibers are laid out in the length of the web; but one can obtain satisfactory results without placing or arranging the fibers 1ongitudinal - # - as this would result, for example, from the use of a Blamire doubler which folds the web, farmée à l 'origin at the unloader of the carding machine, ten transverse folds to ' in the longitudinal direction of the web.

       D is pendant, preferable to lay the fibers in the general direction of the length of the web, as can be done by making a larger and thicker web than that which one wishes to use, then in the eti between rolls -and shrinking it at the same time until -that we have obtained for it the width and thickness that we want - .

   By this stretching, the fibers will be -disposed substantially in parallelism, so that the loss -of material resulting from a -dispo sition -of fibers transversely to the web is reduced to a minimum. The thickness of the web is regulated according to the pile density that is desired in the finished product and according to the type of fibers used, as will easily be understood by those of the art. part.

  In the apparatus shown to la, fig. 1, the yards are -disposed in a -frame li in an inclined position relative to to ! The base of the latter. The chassis 11 is mounted in a 148 car which, in in turn, is mounted on keys neither (Y issières 150 and 152 provided on the frame 176 of the apparatus (fig. 3), this carriage being set in continuous uniform movement, - along these 01 issières,

      by a to screw command actuated to from a motor 11.2. This last carries on its axis a pulley 116 connected, by means of a belt 120, another larger pulley 118 mounted on a shaft 122 on which is also fixed, so to rotate with the pulley 118, a smaller pulley, 124, re linked by a belt 1226 to a pulley 114 -ca lée on a shaft 128 which is mounted, in -bearing 130 and 132 of the frame 176 and on which -is also a helical entry wheel 134,

   This meshes with a driven helical wheel 13 6 fixed on a shaft 13 8 mounted in bearings 140 and 142 of the frame 176 (see more particularly fig. 4). The shaft 138 is prevented from moving longitudinally by means of collars with sleeves 144, 146 fixed on the shaft by means of, tightening screws, ee which allows easy disassembly.

  As can be seen to in fig. 4, the tree. 138 has a threaded part 154 working in a threaded lug 156 of the cha riot 148, which makes it possible to obtain a constrained and uniform movement of the cha riot and from the sash over the desired distance, corresponding to the length, from to pile, finished fabric that you want to produce.

  Any suitable means can be used to automatically stop the cart at the end of travel as will be understood by those involved. You can, for example, stop the screw threads near the ends of the shaft, -as -is indicated at fi-. 4, and make use, #concurrently with the carriage, of a release device to pass the belt 126 over an idler pulley, or else employ a means of automatically shutting off the inlet -d ' energy to the engine.

      Above the frame 11 is disposed a movable forming element 4e, loops, in the form of a looping blade 20 arranged to pass centrally between the 16 yards of the frame, forcing the web in the space between these yards to a distance depending on the setting of the edge of the looping blade, this stroke being adjusted to ensure the desired depth of the loops.

   To hold the web in place during the operation of the looping blade, so as not not to undo the loops already formed, it is provided, for the last loop formed, a retaining element arranged to hold each key side the loop in contact with the adjacent rods - and a blade - arranged to pass through the loop, in order to hold in place the remaining portion of that -ti. This element consists of a loop clamp 22 arranged to hold one side of the base portion of the loop against the adjacent 16 'shank. An auxiliary or secondary looping blade, 24,

   key is then forced up and down in the last loop formed, -in the position previously occupied by the looper blade 20. To hold the remaining # of the base portion of the loop- ele, a second buckle press is provided 26, which descends to engage with the portion of the buckle located above the shank 16 ",

   so that the -last loop formed- mk is held rigidly in place by -allowing a new loop -to be formed without disturbing those formed previously. In forming the new loop, the looping blade 20 descends over the adjacent web section between the 16 " -B> and 16" 'yards, re-treading part of the. tablecloth in the space between these yards, in the form of a loop.

   In the embodiment shown, the secondary buckuse blade 24 is an integral part of the buckle press -9-6; but it goes without saying that these parts could be made, and. actuated, separately if desired .

  The loop forming and retaining elements, briefly called, looping elements "are mounted on a movable support frame 13, in which they receive a downward and upward movement, while '' at the same time the frame 13 which carries them, -and which is guided on fixed guide-rods 2.90, thanks to a -command mechanism established for this effect,

       estimated by an alternating translational movement thanks to which the looper elements first accompany the chassis 11 in its movement, forward, during the formation of a loop, then come back, in a relative displacement with respect to the frame 11, to its starting position for the formation of the next loop.

   The control mechanism which thus acts by constraint on the frame 13 in one -and the other direction of the translational movement which it is driven comprises two cams 160, 162 </ B> having cam grooves 164 and 166, respectively, and which are mounted on a common shaft 158 and actuate two rods 168, </ B > 170 to which the precipitated frame 13 is connected, these rods pivoting at 172, 174 on the frame 176. The to, pivot mounting of these rods on the frame 176 takes place by means of low-cut screws 178, 1.80 </ B > (fig. 3),

   the rods being connected to one to I the other by means of a crossbar 182 to ensure the rigidity of the construction. The actuation of the rods is done by means of ribbons 184, 186, that d1les. bear at their free ends and which roll in the grooves 164. 1.66 of said cams.

   The rods 168, 170 are connected, at intermediate points 188, 190 of their length, to the mobile frame 13 </ B > by connecting rods 192, 194, respectively, wu means of which the oscillating movement of the rods 168, 170, controlled by the shape of the grooves 164, 166 cams, move the frame 13 back and forth with the looping elements.

   A as the carriage carrying the chassis is formed It- moves uniformly along the slides 150, 152, </ B > under the action of the screw 1.54 on the 15.6 ear of this -carriage, the frame of support, < B> 13 with the looping elements advances to la.

   same speed, during the looping or folding of the web, under the action of the cams 160, 162 whose grooves 164, 166 are suitably established to give the rods 168, 170 the desired movement, the frame 13 having finally returned to its initial position in relation to the fixed frame 176. </ B> In -other terms, the looping blade 20 -and the means, y associated, to hold the web or material while the loops y are formed, move uniformly over the same -distance -as the frame It during loop formation, and-as soon as the looper elements are ', released or lifted from the table 10,

   or between the yards of the chassis 11, the frame 14 is returned to its initial position by the movement of the connecting rods 192 , 194, operated by rods 168, 170.

  To obtain the movement of descent and rise -of the looping elements, the shaft 158 derives its control from the shaft 128 by means of a transmission by thaîne. It can, moreover, be actuated by any other suitable control means by which the operation of all the moving elements can be maintained Pu synchronism, # a-veG, its translational movement -forward and, backward -described above.

   The reciprocating movement of all the smoothing elements is obtained by mounting the looping blade and the buckle presses in gui- des and. their connection with values 204 and 206 by means of connecting rods 208 and 210.

   The - #, o1aWs 9-04 and 206 are mounted, on the tree 158 which un- banks its command -from the tree 12-8. A chain wheel 196 is mounted on the shaft 128 by means of a coupling device constituted by the 'clutch 198 (fig. 8) and is linked, by means of a chain 200, to a wheel.

    of chain 202 mounted on the shaft 158, whereby, when the shaft 128 is rotated by the pulley 114, the rotary motion is transmitted to the shaft 158 carrying the flywheels 204 and 206 which are mounted at its ends, as shown to in fig. 3. The wings 204 and 206 are connected, by means of the connecting rods 208 and 210, to the ears 212 and-, 214, respectively, which are directly subject to a plate 216 on which the loop-forming members are mounted.

         As shown in Fig. 3 and 4, the plate 216 can slide between guides 218 and 220, so to be exactly guided in the spaces existing between the 01 . ver- sions of the -frame when this has been previously; adjusted in position.

   Spacers 222 and 224 (fig. 4), having - -lugs 29-6, 2228 and 230, 232, </ B> can be collivally attached to the guides on the sides of said looping elements, to give more rigidity to the construction.

  If desired, we can provide a -means to keep rigid ,, during the. bouple formation, one or more of the separators or yards, so to prevent bending Gu -excessive curvature -of -these separators while the material -of the loop is forced into the spaces between these.

   For this purpose, it is preferred to employ a rigid bar having a curved edge over which the web can easily pass hard during operation of the apparatus, the bar preferably being held against. , the separat2ur by means of two arms, or fingers, of which -Ln csi, located on each side of the apparatus and which Pl- vote on the support frame 13 of the & 1menfçs loopers. The ends of the fingers or brus holding the.

   bar are preferably directly connected to this one, so that when this bar is brought against a separator to. supporting during the formation of a 'a loop, the part of the bar which is in contact with and with this separator bears to flat against the upper edge of which is the part subjected to the greatest stress. A cam can.

    be used to lift the arms while said frame 13 is brought into position for the formation of the next loop, in order to prevent the bar from getting caught in the separator over which it passes. By going up to the arms, or fingers, acting ning the bar on said frame 13, the bar will be.

    moving forward with it during the formation -of a loop, operation -in which said frame 13 advances at the same speed as the yards, and the bar will be lifted after that, and then brought back with the frame] .à a distance corresponding to that which exists between the axes of the yards, so to are in position to engage with the next separator to to support during the formation of the next loop.

   The bar and the fingers which hold it have not been shown in the drawings in order to avoid excessive complication; but the way in which this positive can be applied will be easily understood by those involved and it is obvious that the means of -sup port separators or yards can be modified in any way # whatever is convenient, -en view # to achieve the desired result; moreover, if it is desired, this means of support can be entirely omitted if the separators are sufficiently strong to withstand the pressure or the forces to which they may be subjected during the . curl formation.

  The operation of the roller mechanism represented is as follows- Assuming that one wants to make a carpet or carpet, of given dimensions, one places in the carriage 148 a frame, or form, 11, </ B > preferably a little larger than the to, mat.

   The frame or form 11 may be held in the carriage 148 by a clamping means, for example, and a handle 2,34 may be secured to the frame to facilitate the same. installation or removal, although, for shapes or frames of large -dimensions, one can obviously employ -des. automatic means for their installation and removal.

  We start the folding or looping operation (see more particularly fig. 4) with the carriage 148 at the extreme left of the figure and we draw a web 10 (fig. 7) over the frame, so that it overflows or, overhangs, preferably , the, first yard, as shown in the drawing, this web coming from an inclined -couloir 236 which is preferably secured to the carriage 148, although it can be suspended or held in position independently of the apparatus. Instead of the aisle, one can obviously use, if desired, a conveyor belt.

   When the device is ready to to operate, the engine 112 is started and the device can then be started by means of a belt guide, for example, which do that. belt 126 behind the pulley 11.4. The shaft 128 then starts to turn and the carriage 148 moves to the right along the slides 150 and 152 , as a result, by 1% meshing of the toothed wheel 134, mounted on this shaft, with the wheel 136, mounted on the shaft 138, </ B > the screw 154 -working in the 156 tapped lug of the carriage.

   Simultaneously with the movement of the carriage along its guides, the looper elements (fig. 2) are actuated downwards by the rotation of the chain wheel 196 which, mounted on the shaft 128, is connected by the transmission chain 200 to the chain wheel 202 mounted. on the shaft 158 (fig. 3) on which are mounted the flywheels 204, 206 actuating, via the connecting rods 208, 210, the looper blade 20.

   Chain 200 passes from the control wheel 196 to a chain wheel I.oUe 238 (fig. 2) from where it goes to < / B> the. driven chain wheel 202 and then passes over a tensioning device comprising a movable chain wheel 240, mounted on a driven lever 242 pivoting on the frame 13 at 244, the arm 246 of the lever being connected, by means of a spring 248, to the frame 176, so as to keep the wheel 240 pressed against the chain.

   By rotating the shaft 158, by means of the aforementioned chain command, the flywheels 204 and 206 are set in rotation and the connecting rods 208 and 210, y connected, are simultaneously set in motion, which causes the plate 216 to receive a back and forth movement between the guides 218 and 220 thereby giving the desired movement to the looping blade 20 and to the connected parts y .

  The guides 218 and 220 can be grooved bars, for example: or, if desired, one can use, to guide the plate, 216 -in its movement , rulers mounted independently of each other at the desired spacing. Fig. 4 represents the, looping blade and the loop retaining means associated therewith in the position that # ls take when they are released -from the web, or pulled out of the contict -of the yards, < B> 16. On the other hand, fi-. 6 shows the position taken by the looping elements during looping, when the blades are in their lowest position, before being withdrawn from between the dividers or yards.

   The preferred arrangement for connecting the looper and loop retainer blades and associated y parts, - is shown in figs. 5 and 6. As the plate, 216 descends between the guides 218 and 220, the press-stud 22 first engages the base portion -of a bou # IÉ, above a separator or yard, such as 16 ', for example, the loop-clamp being held pressed against said portion -of loop by the res spells 58 (fig. 5). In the.

   continuation of the downward movement of the plate 216, the retaining blade 24, which is integral with the buckle press 26, descends until it reach, do the bottom -of the last loop formed and, at the same time, the loop presser 26 comes into engagement with there portion of the web which must form one side of the base portion of the new loop, whereby the folded or looped portion of the web is rigidly held in place, allowing a new loop to be formed without moving or unpacking those already formed between the separators.

    The plate 216 continuing to -descent, the looping blade 20 engages with the web and pulls it into the space existing between the separators or yards corresponding to 16 " and 16" ', the movement of the web over the edge of the looping blade and its movement over the upper edge of the separator corresponding to 16 "', serving. to straighten the fibers, or in other words, to ' es </ B> put More OR less in parallelism, so that the predominant direction -of the fibers in the loops is a direction my aunt and.

   descending, substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the slabs. In the above -description, we have keyed the base portion of the loops the part of the latter which is in contact with the upper edge of the rods, in other words, the part with which the.

       Loop presser have come into engagement, while the extreme lower part of the loops or, in other words, the part which is sunk deeper into the space between the yards, has been called the. top portion, or top, of the curls.

    It is evident that after a soft bottom has been glued to the base portion of the loops, and the resulting product has been removed from the frame or form 11, the portion, of the loops called the apex becomes the surface above, or surface to uncovered, of the hair which, as has been described about about. of fig. 7 of the main patent and as indicated in the diagram of fig. 8 of said patent, must be -cut and clipped to form the. surfa to finished pile of the carpet or #rugs.

  During the time that the looping is done, with the buckle clamps engaged with the base portions of the buckles and the retaining blade engaged with the last loop formed between the dividers or yards, the frame 11 < / B> continues its movement to the right to in fig. 4 and the frame 13 with the lifting elements is moved simultaneously to the right over a corresponding distance, to - that which exists between the axes - of consecutive yards,

    this translational movement of the looping elements taking place under the effect of the movement of the cams 160 and 162 (fig. 3), as has been described in detail above.

   The re-grooves 164 and 166 -of these cams must of course be designed to produce the desired uniform movement -of the frame 13 with the looping elements, exactly at the required moment so that it follows the frame during the formation of a loop, -and to bring back the frame with the moving elements to their starting position in relation to the frame of the appliance after the training & every loop.

  The operation described above continues in this way, successively, until the frame containing the separators or yards 16 has arrived at, the extreme right of the apparatus (fig. 4), the apparatus then being stopped of preferably automatically by means of a disengagement device located on the carriage 148 and connected, for example, to the belt pass to stop the control movement of the parts described.

  It goes without saying that instead of making use of a single frame, or form, as has been described above, means can be employed to drive a series of frames, or forms, 11, or that one could employ an endless chain, belt or conveyor which would be actuated by means of gears, LI - in any suitable manner, to ensure a continuous drive -frame or forms.

  It will also be understood that in connection with moving the frame It in a continuous manner and. to make it accompany by the rolling elements dura-ni the formation of a loop, in the above-mentioned manner, the frame can be kept motionless, in which case the looping elements will have to be moved in an intermittent translational movement, along this frame, in the successive key positions for the formation of the boom,
