Description

Process for the production of ceramic moldings. As is well known, the process in the usual process for the manufacture of ceramic moldings can be summarized as follows: The clay obtained from the clay pit is first prepared by adding water, if necessary, in such a way that it has the essential plasticity. The mixture thus obtained is then subjected to the shaping, which BEZW by pressing or pulling. Forming takes place, whereupon the briquettes are dried naturally or artificially.

Then the dried briquettes reach the kiln, from which they are pulled out after the firing is finished and after cooling.

This process takes a long time and involves many devices which, since the actual value of the treated substance is very low, significantly increases the cost of the finished product.

The present invention aims to: a) reduce the time required for drying to the shortest possible, and b) carry out the firing immediately after drying without interruption. This is achieved according to the invention. that briquettes are placed in a bed located in a refractory box and the boxes are introduced one after the other into a tunnel oven, in which drying and firing of the briquettes takes place in one operation.

The following process, checking the quality of the product obtained, has been tried practically table for the production of moldings and forms an embodiment example of the present invention.

  1. The mass consisting of clay and water is heated to 9f5 C before shaping and then drawn or hot. deformed, whereby a greater formability of the clay and therefore a corresponding saving for the operation of the Zieb- bezw. Forming or pressing machine is achieved. 2. As soon as the molding is drawn or. If it has been deformed or pressed, it is placed in a fireproof box, on the bottom of which a layer of sand or other dusty material, also heated to 9.5 C, has been spread.

. The molding is then completely covered with warm sand, the sand having been mixed with an appropriate amount of fuel before. This fuel can be either powder or liquid.

  4. The refractory box is then inserted into a tunnel furnace, the length of which is calculated in such a way that if a suitable heat source is placed inside it at a certain point, the temperature at the entrance of the furnace is about 95 ° C. This temperature naturally increases from the inlet opening to the internal heat source. This heat source has the necessary power to cause the mixture of fuel and sand to ignite as soon as the box containing the mixture has reached the point of the heat source.

  5. The length of the tunnel kiln means that the temperature at its exit opening is not different from the outside.

When the refractory box passes through the tunnel furnace at an appropriate speed, the molding contained in the box assumes the successive temperatures present in the furnace (from the original temperature (95 C) to that of the outside air) and it also reaches the temperature that causes the fuel contained in the box to ignite.

The combustion lasts until the fuel is consumed, which is dosed in such a way that drying and burning of the molding contained in the box are ensured.

After the fuel has been consumed, the box continues to run through the tunnel kiln, while it gives off its heat to the air which enters the kiln through the outlet opening, so that at the end of the run the box and molding have approximately the same temperature as the outside air .

It is clear that if further boxes of briquettes and fuel are introduced into the tunnel kiln, they too, like the first mentioned the successive ones, assume the temperatures present in the kiln at the same distances from the kiln entrance. Once normal operating work has been achieved, i.e. the temperature is constant in all sections of the furnace, the heat source located in the tunnel furnace can be switched off, since the heat radiating from the boxes is sufficient to cause the fuel contained in the boxes to ignite.

Numerous and carefully made practical tests have shown that if one proceeds in the process as described above, drying. Firing and subsequent cooling of the molding can be completed in little more than 36 hours. As is known, this time is only sufficient to achieve the artificial drying of the moldings in the usual process.

It is important to note that the method according to the invention can also be used if there is no mixture of liquid or powdered fuel with sand, provided that the furnace only has a heat source located outside the refractory boxes whose power is of course sufficient must deliver the temperature required to carry out the process.

It is also possible to reduce the amount of liquid or dusty fuel mixed with sand, while at the same time a heat source with reduced radiant power, which is arranged outside the refractory boxes, is active.

The inventive method can also be carried out with moldings made by cold means, with a cold clay mass having been used in a cold bed of fuel and sand. Of course, the briquettes could also have been drawn in the warm, placed in a cold bed, or drawn in the cold and placed in a warm bed of fuel and sand.
