Les fig. 1 et 2 représentent, en grande échelle, le galet entraîneur commun à toute les formes d'exécution; Les fig. 3 et 4, 5 et G montrent respec tivement, vu en élévation et en bout, la pre mière et la deuxième forme de réalisation; Les fig. 7 -et 8 montrent, vu en bout -et en plan, un mode spécial d'actionnement du galet entraîneur; La fig. 9 est une vue en élévation et la fig. 10 une vue en bout d'un mode ultérieur cl'actionnement du galet entraîneur;
le bras de balancier 10 se trouvant horizontal lorsque le galet entre en contact avec le plateau et oscillant d'une amplitude assez faible limi tée par un ergot d'arrêt 9 en cours de fonc tionnement de part et d'autre de l'horizon tale. Le balancier 10 est solidaire du bras 7, 7' ou 7" lorsque le galet est porté par un tel support oscillant;
Training device for talking machines recording and reproducing sound at constant linear speed. In machines recording and reproducing sound at constant linear speed, the movement at constant linear speed of the wax-holder or disc-loss plate results from the combination of the rotational movement imparted by a roller in contact with the underside of the plate. in line with the style or its I: hir and with a translational movement varying the distance separating the roller from the axis of the plate.
As a result, the plate rotates at increasing angular speeds as the drive roller moves closer to the center.
In known machines, by the effect of inertia, the sliding of the roller on the rolling face of the disc tends to occur, in recording machines, due to the increased resistance to driving a very heavy plate. at. angular speeds in constant progression, in machines to be reproduced, by runaway of a relatively light plate rotating at angular speeds in constant progression.
And this sliding can be further facilitated or amplified by the imperfections or unevenness of the plate and by vibrations transmitted to the roller.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. It consists of a training device for speaking machines recording and reproducing sound at constant linear speed. This is characterized by a drive roller made of hard and undeformable material, the periphery of which is ridged and is in contact with a sheet of plastic material adhering under the disc holder plate, into which it penetrates slightly without printing any deformation. permanent, this roller rotating at a constant speed while moving radially with respect to the plate.
The attached drawing shows, by way of example, three embodiments of the device according to the present invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 represent, on a large scale, the drive roller common to all embodiments; Figs. 3 and 4, 5 and G respectively show, seen in elevation and in end, the first and the second embodiment; Figs. 7 -and 8 show, seen end -and in plan, a special mode of actuation of the drive roller; Fig. 9 is an elevational view and FIG. 10 an end view of a further mode of actuation of the drive roller;
Figs. 11 to 13 show, end view, in elevation and in plan, a third embodiment.
The drive roller 1, made of a hard and undeformable material such as metal, fiber, ebonite, wood, etc. to obtain the constancy of the speed and no deformation or decrease in diameter, has its ridged or soft periphery and is applied against the underside of the disc holder plate 2 coated with a plastic sheet and preferably elastic such that the rubber 3 chosen to give the maximum adhesion with the roller 1, so that when the roller is rotated,
its peripheral toothing penetrates slightly into the elastic coating by pushing it back and the drive is effected with a precision comparable to that obtained using gears. Nevertheless, due to the shallow depth of the ridges and the judicious adjustment of the pressure exerted by the roller against the plate, there is no permanent deformation or too rapid wear of the rubber coating.
In addition, in order to avoid the transmission of vibrations, however low they may be and the elastic coating of the plate moreover makes it possible to absorb a large part of it, a sheath 1 in metal other than that constituting the roller or else made of fiber, ebonite, wood or the like, is interposed between the motor shaft and the hub of the roller.
, In order to instantly and flexibly follow any unevenness or warping of the underside of the disc holder plate and to constantly exert against this plate the pressure suitable for regular training, the roller 1 is carried either by an oscillating arm 7 , 7 'or 7 "as in fig. 3 to 10, or by a vertically guided slide 20 as in fig. 11 to 13 and it is balanced by a counterweight 12 adjusted then locked on the arm 10 to counter balance the weight of the masses and also ensure sufficient pressure for the plate to be driven by the wheel 1,
the balance arm 10 being horizontal when the roller comes into contact with the plate and oscillating with a fairly low amplitude limited by a stop lug 9 in operation on either side of the horizontal . The balance 10 is integral with the arm 7, 7 'or 7 "when the roller is carried by such an oscillating support;
on the other hand, it acts by a symmetrical arm 22 on a lifting finger 23 integral with the slide 20 when the g o alet is guided vertically (Figs. 11 to 13).
In addition, in order. To ensure the roller an additional pressure varying at each moment to remain .constantly proportional to the increasing angular speed of the plate and to the resistance opposed by said drive to the device, the apparatus comprises a mechanism which combines its action with the particular constitution of the elastic plate underside and the ridged roller and the special assembly of the latter to surely eliminate all causes of sliding and also ensure a faithful reproduction of the song or the music, a purity of perfect and unchanging sound,
precise synchronism. in the case of application to sound and talking cinematographic films: Figs. 3 and 4, and 7 to 13, show in fact that the balance 10 or 10 'also carries the counterweight 12 or 12' a grooved roller 11 on which rests and acts, with a progressively increasing force at the same time as it increases. the angular speed of the plate, the long lever arm 13 which has its fulcrum and articulation point 16 'integral with the sliding carriage 16 carrying the plate and which is provided with. its other end of a 13 'counterweight.
For the symmetry and the balancing of the carriage, a second identical counterweight 13 "carried by another arm of the lateral lever articulated in the same way on the carriage and resting on a caster with groove 11 'carried by a small support and simply by supporting the arm the sink can be arranged as shown in fig. 4.
Figs. 5 -and 6 show an alternative arrangement according to which the lever arm 7 "is subjected to the action of a counterweight placed in the support frame under the carriage and its screw or advancement crane, or, as shown, of two counterweights 13 'each carried by one of the branches of a lever 13 in the form of LLU -and including t,
each branch rests on a moving fulcrum, in this case a grooved roller 17 carried by the carriage 16 and which are articulated on the oscillating arm 7 "by the fulcrum 18 which can be for example .- ple a yoke or tab through which passes the cross bar 19 securing the lever arms 13.
Thus, when the carriage carrying the plate 2 performs .on its slides a corresponding continuous movement for each turn of the plate, at the distance separating two neighboring grooves of the disc, the pressure of the counterweights 13 'increases because of this. the continuous elongation of the distance separating these counterweights from the rollers 11 or 17 in a manner strictly proportional to the advance of the plate and, consequently, to its angular speed gradually accelerating, assuring the 'adhesion .du roller 1 in constant progression with the variations in resistance of the plate due to increases in angular speed.
Due to the mounting of the knurled roller 1 on an oscillating or sliding support making it possible to ensure, as described above, the pressure between it -and the plate suitable at all times for perfect drive, the transmission of the motor movement to this roller is carried out in a particular way.
Figs. 3 to 8 show the actuation by a pinion 4 wedged. On the axis of the motor meshing with a second pinion 5 whose axis 6 is that of the knurled roller 1 carried at the end of the lever arm 7 oscillating around the motor axis by taking as a support point for example the hollow journal 8 of the motor frame or a suitable support.
Figs. 9 and 10 show the actuation (read roller by an endless screw 14 wedged on axis 15 of the motor and which meshes with a tangent wheel 5 'wedged on axis 6' supported by a fork 7 'mounted on an integral support, for example of the motor, this fork being able to oscillate around the axis 15. with a limited movement and being requested by the counterweight 12' and that carried by the rod-13 acting on the arm 10 'for the purpose described above.
The diameter of the wheel and its position are such that the assembly always remains slightly outside the vertical to ensure good adhesion against the plate 1o, the pressure produced by the counterweights here being exerted perpendicular to the plane .de the scroll wheel. It is also possible in certain cases to place the counterweight mechanism on the opposite side on an axis 10 "and to make it act, always perpendicular to the plane of the roller, by pulling as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 9.
Figs. 11 to 13 show, in the case of mounting the wheel 1 on a vertically guided slide, the actuation by pulley 24 mounted at the end of the shaft 25, this shaft being carried by a yoke 26 articulated at 27 and the pulley having a spherical shape the center of which is on the oscillating axis 27 so that the drive belt does not undergo any torsion or variation in tension during slight oscillations of the shaft 25.
It goes without saying that this embodiment of the drive is not limiting and that it is also possible to interpose a dial coupling on the shaft 25, or ensure the transmission of the movement by a train of gears and worm screws. mounted on an intermediate shaft participating in raising and lowering gaps,
or else drive a wheel .den tée integral with the knurled roller by a worm with a vertical axis like the slide and caged to participate in the vertical movements by sliding along its grooved or splined motor shaft.
In the various embodiments described, the instantaneous stopping of the apparatus is effected by stopping the contact between the roller and the plate by lifting the lever arm 10 using a rocking finger 28 or a .came. However, the finger 28 is only shown in FIG. 11.
The drive device forming the object of the present invention and the application of which has been described to machines for recording or reproducing at constant linear speed is also applicable for playing all the discs currently on the system. market recorded at constant angular speed regardless of their diameter and recording speed; it is in fact easy with devices such .que .ceux described, with a parte-disc plate mounted on a sliding carriage.
with serrated drive roller in contact with an underside of the rubber plate and with counterweight ensuring a pressure of a value proportional to the speed of rotation of the plate, to disengage or eliminate the mechanism causing the continuous rectilinear movement of the disc and to equip the carriage of a blocking device 29 which allows it to be mobilized at precise points on the slides, - marked and corresponding to the various current angular recording speeds.
