Description

   Comme on le sait, cette  combinaison de matières est celle employée  ordinairement dans des .dispositifs de prise  de courant connus jusqu'à présent, l'usure des  pièces de -contact (ligne b) étant très grande,  comme il ressort du .diagramme;  La     fig.    2 est un diagramme montrant le  résultat d'une     expérience    se rapportant à  l'usure .de trois matières différentes,     c'est-          à-dire    une combinaison     -d'un    fil en cuivre  dur (ligne a) avec une pièce -de contact en  cuivre     tendre    (ligne b) et une pièce frottante  en fibre vulcanisée (ligne c);

    La fig. 3 montre le résultat d'une expé rience faite avec une combinaison d'un fil en cuivre dur (ligne a) avec une pièce de contact en cuivre tendre (ligne b) -et une pièce frot- tante en résine artificielle (ligne d); La fig. 4 montre le résultat .d'une expé rience faite avec une combinaison d'un fil en cuivre -dur (ligne a) avec une pièce de -con tact en cuivre tendre (ligne b) et une pièce de contact en aluminium (ligne e).

      Comme il ressort des fig. 2, 3 et 4, l'usure réciproque des matières en contact est d'une petitesse surprenante.

    l'usure de ces matières en contact peut être grandement réduite.

  Les combinaisons des matières pour les       pièces    dé .contact peuvent être celles données  dans les exemples suivants:       1o    Pour une ligne d'alimentation aérienne  ou un troisième rail en     cuivre,    une pièce     @de     contact en cuivre, fer, acier ou en alliage con  tenant l'un quelconque de ces métaux comme  composant principal, combinée avec une se  conde pièce     frottante    en aluminium, plomb,  zinc, l'étain, l'antimoine ou en un alliage  contenant l'un quelconque de ces métaux  comme composant principal;

    20 Pour une ligne d'alimentation ou un  troisième rail en cuivre, une pièce de contact  en aluminium ou en un alliage d'aluminium       combinée    avec. une seconde pièce     frottante     en plomb, zinc, étain, antimoine ou en un  alliage contenant l'un quelconque de     ces    mé  taux composant principal;  30 Pour une ligne d'alimentation aérienne  ou un troisième rail en cuivre,     pièce    de con  tact en cuivre, fer, acier, aluminium ou en  un alliage contenant l'un quelconque de ces  métaux comme ,composant principal, combinée  avec une seconde pièce     frottante    en bois,  bambou, cuir, caoutchouc dur, amiante, fibre  vulcanisée ou en résine artificielle;

    40 Pour une ligne d'alimentation aérienne  ou un troisième rail en fer, en acier ou en  un alliage d'acier, une pièce de contact en  fer, acier .ou en un alliage d'acier,     combinée     avec une seconde     pièce    frottante en fonte,  cuivre, aluminium, plomb, zinc, étain, anti  moine ou en un alliage contenant l'un quel  conque de ces métaux comme .composant prin  cipal;

    50     Pour    une ligne d'alimentation aé  rienne ou un troisième rail en fer, en acier  ou en un alliage -d'acier, une     pièce    de contact  en fer, acier ou en un alliage .d'acier ou :de  fonte     combinée    avec une seconde     pièce        frot-          tante    en bois,     bambou,    cuir, caoutchouc dur,  amiante, fibre vulcanisée ou en résine     artifi-          cielle;

                6o Pour une ligne d'alimentation aé rienne ou un troisième rail en fer, en acier ou en un alliage .d'acier, une pièce de contact en cuivre, aluminium ou en un alliage conte nant l'un quelconque de ces métaux comme composant principal combinée avec une se conde pièce frottante en bois, bambou cuir, caoutchouc dur, amiante, fibre vulcanisée ou en résine artificielle.

  Socket device for trams or other electric vehicles. The present invention relates to a current-taking device for trams or other electric vehicles, intended to transmit the electric current from an overhead power line or from a third rail to the electric traction motors of the vehicle.

  The object of the invention is to reduce the wear of the overhead power lines or of the third rails, as well as that of the parts in sliding contact in a power outlet device, so as to save the time that 'and the costs that would be incurred to replace these worn parts with new parts.

       The contact parts of a current-taking device ordinarily employed in electric vehicles are generally made of copper, aluminum or an alloy of these metals.

  The contact parts are intended to be, in service, always in frictional or sliding contact with the overhead lines or the third rails, so that the wear of the parts making contact with each other progresses rather steeply as a result of the friction effect between these parts and the electric sparks flowing between them, and it is necessary to replace them often with new parts. In addition, the overhead power lines or the third rails also wear out to a great extent.

       In the apparatus according to the invention, this wear has been surprisingly reduced for the reasons which emerge from the following.

  In experiments with abrasion, it has been found that the wear conditions between three materials with two rubbing against the third are greatly different from those between two materials rubbing against each other and that if materials Suitable components are used as components of said three materials, the wear of these -is much less than that of the two materials.

             Figs. 1 to 10 -of the accompanying drawing show the results of experiments carried out in this field.

  For the experiments carried out, a steel or hard copper wire of 2.205 m long, formed in a loop on the inner side of which was made to slide concurrently, at a speed of 122, was used. revolutions per minute, two rubbing parts each of which has a square friction surface with one side measuring 9 mm, each part being pressed separately against the inner side of the wire with a pressure of 6 kg - and conducting an alternating current of 50 amps.

  The wear of the rubbing parts and of the wire used in the experiment was measured, by weighing these elements every two minutes, the values indicated in the diagrams represented in the appended drawing being calculated, for this yes relates to the wire used, for a length of 100 mm. , Fig. 1 is a diagram showing the wear of a hard copper wire (line a) and soft copper contact pieces (line b). Lowers represent time and ordinates wear.

   As is known, this combination of materials is that ordinarily employed in socket-outlet devices known hitherto, the wear of the contact parts (line b) being very great, as can be seen from the diagram; Fig. 2 is a diagram showing the result of an experiment relating to the wear of three different materials, i.e. a combination of a hard copper wire (line a) with a contact piece in soft copper (line b) and a rubbing part in vulcanized fiber (line c);

    Fig. 3 shows the result of an experiment made with a combination of a hard copper wire (line a) with a soft copper contact piece (line b) -and an artificial resin rubbing piece (line d) ; Fig. 4 shows the result of an experiment made with a combination of a hard copper wire (line a) with a soft copper touch piece (line b) and an aluminum contact piece (line e ).

      As can be seen from fig. 2, 3 and 4, the mutual wear of the materials in contact is surprisingly small.

  The fi g. 5 shows the result of an experiment made with an ordinary combination of a wire (line h). with .contact pieces, in copper (line b). The wear of these parts is very great in this case; Fig. 6 shows the result of an experiment made with a combination of a wire (line la) with a soft copper contact piece (line b) and a rubbing piece of oak wood (line d '). In this case, the wear of the materials in contact is very small; The fie. 7 shows the result of an exile-.

         rience made with an ordinary combination of an iron wire (line h) with cast iron contact pieces (line g), the wear being, in this case, very great, as shown in this figure; Fig. 8 shows the result of an experiment made with a combination of a wire (line 1a) with a cast iron part (line g) and a leather part (line f).

    As can be seen in this figure, the wear here is smaller than for the case following fig. 7; The fia. 9 shows the result of an experiment made with a .combination of a wire (line h) with parts made of:

      steel (line i.) and fig. 10 that of an experiment made with the combination of a wire (line la) with a piece of steel (line i) and a piece of guaiac wood (line 7th). By compa reason -of fig. 9 and 10, it is seen that the wear of the friction parts of the second combination is much smaller than that of the first combination.

       The examples given above and several other experiments have shown that when two rubbing parts made of different materials are brought together in sliding contact with a wire or overhead power line or a third rail, the The wear, both of the friction parts and of the wire or the rail, can be very small compared to the wear in the ordinary case where only one or two or more -than two friction parts made of one and the same material are used.

  In the foregoing, we have only spoken of abrasion between three elements, that is to say between a current supply element and two rubbing parts made of different materials, but it is understood that the same conditions also apply with regard to abrasion between four or more than four parts, that is to say one power supply element and three or more rubbing parts in materials: - different. However, to simplify matters, only the conditions relating to the brasion between three elements have been described essentially.

  The present invention is based on the discovery reported above. The device established according to this invention comprises two or more friction parts made respectively of an electrically conductive material and of another material different from said conductive material and which does not constitute a lubricant in itself, these two or more rubbing parts being arranged so as to be maintained separately and independently of one another in sliding contact with an overhead power line or a third rail.

  The overhead power line, or third rail, can be made of copper, aluminum, iron, steel or an alloy containing any of the above metals as a major component.

  As for the rubbing parts, these can be made of copper, aluminum, iron, steel, lead, zinc, tin, antimony, an alloy - containing any of these metals as the main component. , of wood, bamboo, copper, hard rubber, asbestos, vulcanized fiber, artificial resin or any other solid material, except those which constitute, in themselves, a lubricant, and when two or more of these materials, at least one of which is an electrically conductive material, are employed in suitable combination with each other,

    the wear of these contacting materials can be greatly reduced.

  The combinations of materials for the contact parts can be those given in the following examples: 1o For an overhead power line or a third copper rail, a contact part made of copper, iron, steel or an alloy containing any of these metals as a main component, combined with a second friction piece of aluminum, lead, zinc, tin, antimony or an alloy containing any of these metals as a main component;

    20 For a power line or a third copper rail, an aluminum or aluminum alloy contact piece combined with. a second rubbing piece of lead, zinc, tin, antimony or an alloy containing any of these main component metals; 30 For an overhead power line or a third copper rail, contact piece made of copper, iron, steel, aluminum or an alloy containing any of these metals as the main component, combined with a second friction piece made of wood, bamboo, leather, hard rubber, asbestos, vulcanized fiber or artificial resin;

    40 For an overhead power line or a third rail made of iron, steel or a steel alloy, a contact piece of iron, steel or a steel alloy, combined with a second friction piece of cast iron , copper, aluminum, lead, zinc, tin, anti-monk or an alloy containing any of these metals as a main component;

     50  For an overhead supply line or a third rail of iron, steel or a steel alloy, a contact piece of iron, steel or a steel alloy or: of cast iron combined with a second rubbing piece of wood, bamboo, leather, hard rubber, asbestos, vulcanized fiber or artificial resin;

                6o For an overhead power line or a third rail made of iron, steel or a steel alloy, a contact piece of copper, aluminum or an alloy containing any of these metals as a component main combined with a second rubbing piece in wood, bamboo leather, hard rubber, asbestos, vulcanized fiber or artificial resin.

  In the examples given above, the steel can be replaced by poorly legible cast iron. There are several possibilities for arranging different kinds of rubbing parts independently of each other along an incurring feed element, so as to slide them concurrently over the latter.

  In any case, the rubbing parts must be arranged to slide along the current supply element independently without being attached to each other.

       Ires fig. 11 to 13 schematically show examples of the arrangement of the rubbing parts.

  According to fig. 11, the contact piece A of the power socket. Of a vehicle, for example a tram, is mounted on the same support as the second rubbing piece B, #s. Two pieces being made, as it has already been pointed out in two different materials.

  (According to Fig. 12, the contact piece A1 and the second friction piece B1 are mounted on two different supports provided on one and the same vehicle.

  It is understood that one of the rubbing parts can be made of a non-conductive material, such as wood, asbestos or any other material mentioned in the examples given above, and even in the case where the two rubbing parts would be made of conductive materials, it is possible that one of them is not intended to receive an electric current.

  According to fig. 13, the contact part AZ of the current-taking device and the second friction part Y are mounted on, 4es supports provided on two different vehicles ac coupled to each other, the part A = being able to be made for example in steel and part B2 in cast iron.

  In the devices described, - the wear of the friction parts is much smaller than in the ordinary devices used until now, - these devices also make it possible to greatly reduce the wear of the current supply elements with which they are used. - intended to cooperate.
