Device for protection against leaks in air coolers of electrical machines. In modern turbo alternators, the turbo alternator often forms a whole with the air circulation cooler. This type of arrangement of the cooler has a number of advantages, but the electrical machine must be thoroughly protected against possible ingress of water as a result of leaks in the cooler.
A complete safeguard against the ingress of water from the coolers into the electrical machine is offered by the device forming the subject of the present invention for protection against leaks in air coolers assembled with electrical machines.
In the drawing, an execution form of the subject invention is shown as an example.
It denotes T the turbo alternator with the air circulation cooler R mounted on the stator housing. The water is fed to this cooler through the pipe A, into which a feed pump C and a. Regulating valve V are installed. The hot water flows through the pipe B, in which the valve VZ is switched on.
The electrical machine T is protected against the ingress of water from the cooler R, in that the pipes A and B form a lifter with the cooler R and the pressure in the water space of the cooler R is below atmospheric pressure. In the event of a leak in the cooler, the water will not penetrate into the air flow and thus into the generator, but the atmospheric air from the environment will be sucked into the water space of the cooler.
In this way, the generator is completely protected against leaks in the cooler. The pipe D connects the water space of the cooler with the vacuum pump of the condensation of the turbine, it could also connect the water space with its own auxiliary vacuum pump.
In the pipe D a non-return valve or a multi-way valve is built, which allows a closing from the water space of the cooler against the vacuum pump, respectively. admitting air from the atmosphere into the water room of the cooler in the event that the water is to be drained from the cooler. The pipe D, which connects the water space of the cooler with the vacuum pump, is only used to generate the vacuum in the water space when the cooler is started up. With further operation the pipe D is closed.
When starting up, the slides V1 and VZ are blocked and the pipe D, which leads to the vacuum pump, is opened. Furthermore, the pump C is started. The vacuum pump creates a negative pressure in the water space of the cooler. When a certain negative pressure is reached, the slide V1 is opened so that the water gradually fills the entire water space of the cooler under the action of the pump c. After that, the slide V._ is also opened and the water begins to flow through the cooler, being promoted by the pump c.
When the normal operating flow of the water is reached, the pipe D is shut off. The cooler now works normally, with pump c conveying the water through the water space of the cooler.
In order to achieve and maintain the required negative pressure in the water area of the cooler with the device shown, the following conditions must be met. To determine these conditions, the water cooler is taken into account on the one hand during commissioning and on the other hand during actual operation.
The atmospheric pressure, expressed in meters of water column, is designated with the letter ho, the hydrostatic height in the supply line with h, and in the discharge with h2, the absolute pressure in the cooler with yes. Furthermore, let the pressure head of pump C be equal to laeo with valve V1 closed and h with valve V1 fully open,
. The hydraulic losses in the water circulation are where 9 are those related to this, .den
EMI0002.0038
individual parts of the water circulation mean corresponding loss coefficients and u are the relevant water speeds.
To maintain the required negative pressure in the water space of the cooler shown connected to the vacuum pump during commissioning, the relationship h .. <h1 (7-) must apply to the pressure level of the pump, i.e. the pressure level of pump C when idling, i.e. with the valve closed V :, must be smaller than the hydrostatic height h1 in the water supply line when starting.
The negative pressure in the water chamber must, when the slide V, is opened, meet the condition: ho - h, #:
- jti - hco The negative pressure in the water chamber of the cooler must therefore overcome the difference between the hydrostatic height of the supply line h1 and the pressure height of the pump h "when the pump is started, so that the water in the water space of the cooler flows.
While the cooler is being put into operation, pump C is used to fill the cooler and the supply and discharge lines up to the valve V @ with water. If this slide V. is then opened, the action of the pump causes the water to flow through the cooler.
In this case it will
EMI0002.0081
This means that the delivery head of pump C must overcome the difference in the hydrostatic heights at the inflow and outflow of the water, which is increased by the hydraulic waste in the water circulation. To ensure that there is constant negative pressure in the cooler, the following condition also applies to the delivery head of pump C when valve V is fully open:
EMI0003.0004
where cp is the loss coefficient in the supply line.
The static height in the discharge must finally be chosen so that no tearing of the water column occurs, that is:
EMI0003.0007
or the hydrostatic height in the outlet h_ must be smaller than the atmospheric pressure in the in water column increased by the hydraulic waste in the outlet.
The conditions (1) to (5) must be fulfilled if the cooler is put into operation and a correct circulation of the water without any interruption of the water column in the vacuum pump to the closed cooler with a negative pressure in the water space is to be achieved. In this case, if there is a fault in the seal of the cooler, air enters the water space of the cooler, the vacuum is disturbed and the water sinks under the cooler, which stops its activity.
A signal device, not shown, indicates that a disturbance has occurred in the water flow, so that the operating personnel can put the machine out of operation immediately. The sinking of the water level below the cooler prevents any penetration of water into the electrical machine.
The device described above requires an auxiliary vacuum when commissioning, because the delivery head lt "" is less than the height h. But you can achieve the necessary negative pressure in the water space of the cooler without a vacuum pump, through a suitable choice of static heights in the inlet and outlet water line of the cooler and the head of the pump C.
In this case, the required negative pressure is achieved in the water space while the cooler is in operation, the cooler by suitable throttling, the water flow by means of the sliders V and VZ. In this case, the delivery head h of the pump C is selected to be somewhat greater than the hydrostatic head h in the water supply line.
When starting up the cooler, after starting pump C, slide valve V, is opened, as well as slide valve V2 and the ventilation valves on the cooler chambers, so that when the cooler is filled with water, the trapped air can escape from the cooler. As soon as there is water in the vent cocks on the cooler chambers, the radiator is filled with water and the vent valves are closed.
When the cooler continues to operate, slide valve V,, throttles the water flow into the cooler so that the condition is met:
EMI0003.0047
where the loss coefficient is increased precisely by the throttling with the slide V. This throttling .but must not be too great, "as the condition
EMI0003.0052
must be met.
Then, in the drainage line, open the valve V2 so far that the column of races does not tear (according to equation 5). In operation, the above-mentioned conditions can be controlled with a vacuum meter, which is connected to the water chamber of the cooler, and with a device for measuring the flow rate of the water (for example with a differential manometer), so that the line of electrical measurements The appropriate amount of water is maintained under the correct pressure conditions.
If the above-mentioned pressure conditions for the water space of the cooler are met, air from the atmosphere will be sucked in from the atmosphere into the water surface of the cooler if the cooler seal is faulty, causing the pump G 'to: the cooler the amount of water pumped decreases. As soon as the operator notices the disturbance in the circulating water, they switch off the generator immediately.
The cooler, which is equipped with the described device and which forms a whole with the generator, is far safer in operation than a cooler that is arranged under the generator. In the latter case, the water in the cooler always has a certain overpressure against the atmosphere, so that in the event of a leak in the cooler, the water gets into the circulating air and thus also into the generator.
The device described above can be used not only for turbo alternators, but also for other electrical machines equipped with an air circulation cooler.
