Description

Beleuchtungsanlage.

Lighting system. The invention relates to a lighting system Be with a number of primary 'transformers connected in series, to which secondary glow electrode discharge tubes with a gas and vapor filling are connected. These discharge tubes, which are designed to emit light, can consist of sodium vapor discharge tubes, for example.

It has been shown that if the number of transformers connected in series is selected to be relatively large in relation to the voltage of the existing power source, when switching on the difficulty sometimes arises that the glow electrodes of the discharge tubes do not or only slowly reach their normal temperature, which, among other things, leads to a longer heating-up time (i.e. the time required for the metal vapor to assume normal pressure).

According to the invention, this deficiency is remedied in that a choke coil is connected in parallel with some of the transformers connected in series (and thus in series with the other transformers). As a result, when the system is switched on, the transformer windings in series with this choke coil are subjected to a stronger current.

As a result, if the glow electrodes are heated by special currents and are connected to some transformer windings for this purpose, a stronger heating current is induced in these windings, which means that the glow electrodes reach the required temperature more quickly, as well as faster heating of the Röhren he follows.

If the glow electrodes are not heated by special currents, but by the discharge current, the increased transformer current causes a stronger discharge current between the electrodes, which are still cold when switched on, whereby these electrodes also reach their normal temperature more quickly. The aforementioned choke coil is dimensioned such that, when the discharge tubes connected to the transformers in series with the choke coil have been ignited, the voltage difference between the ends of the choke coil is so great that

that also the discharge tubes connected to the transformers lying parallel to the choke coil are ignited.

In the drawing, a circuit diagram of a device according to the invention is shown as an example.

This device contains a number of discharge tubes 1 and 2, e.g. B. sodium vapor discharge tubes with a noble gas, z. B. neon, under low pressure, and sodium vapor existing filling are provided. This sodium vapor is generated during operation from a quantity of metallic sodium introduced into the tube. The tubes are equipped with glow electrodes 3, which are heated by special heating currents.

For better clarity of the drawing, the tubes are shown schematically and the structural details of these tubes have not been given.

The discharge tubes 1 and 2 are respectively connected to the secondary transformer windings 4. 5 connected. The heating currents of the glow electrodes are supplied by a few turns at the ends of these transformer windings. The primary windings 6 respectively. 7 of the various transformers are connected in series and connected to the alternating current source 8, which may for example consist of a leakage field transformer.

Since it is very important with sodium vapor lamps to keep the current strength constant, the tubes are expediently connected to a known transformer with a movable secondary winding which maintains the current strength at a constant value during normal operation.

The choke coil 9 is connected in parallel with the series-connected transformer windings 7 and is therefore in series with the transformer windings 6 when viewed from the power source 8.

When the system is started up, due to the choke coil 9 present, a higher current will flow through the transformer windings 6 than in the absence of this coil. This stronger current induces a stronger current in the secondary windings to which the glow electrodes 3 of the tubes 1 are ruled out, whereby these glow electrodes reach the required temperature safely and quickly.

When the discharge current flowing through the tubes 1 has reached its normal value, the current passing through the choke coil 9 causes a considerably larger voltage difference between the ends of this choke coil than during the ignition of the tubes 1. The choke coil is so dimensioned and the number of tubes 2, the transformers of which are parallel to the choke coil, is selected in such a way that this larger voltage difference existing between the ends of the choke coil is capable of introducing discharges into the tubes 2.

After all discharge tubes have been ignited, a somewhat smaller current than through the tubes 1 will flow through the tubes 2 as a result of the parallel connection of the choke coil. However, since the current passing through the choke coil lags behind the current flowing through the tubes 2 practically by <B> 90 '</B>, the difference between the latter current and the current flowing through the tubes 1 will be very small. The choke coil does not need to be switched off as a result of the ignition of the discharge tubes 2, which is very advantageous,

because this means that the use of an expensive automatic switch-off device is unnecessary.

If necessary, the glow electrodes can also be heated by the discharge current. In this case, the stronger current which flows through the transformer windings 5 and which is brought about by attaching the choke coil 9 causes an increased glow discharge current between the glow electrodes, which causes the tube to heat up quickly.

The transformers to which the discharge tubes are connected can also be designed as autotransformers.
