Description

Process for preparing coatings for printing rollers. The present invention relates to a process for the production of coatings for printing rollers, characterized in that a mixture of a saturated solution of magnesium chloride and starch, the water content of which does not exceed 9%, is used. .

The aqueous solution of magnesium chloride according to the invention is saturated at room temperature. It is advantageous to reduce the water content of the starch so that it does not exceed 9%, this is to reduce the humidity of the coating which would otherwise cause the coating to stick to the mandrel.

Two examples of implementation of the invention will be given below.

In one embodiment, a saturated aqueous solution of magnesium chloride and commercial starch is mixed in the following proportions: 51 parts by weight of saturated aqueous solution of magnesium chloride and 49 parts by weight of commercial starch (preferably wheat starch) before a maximum water content of 9%.

The above-mentioned substances are intimately mixed to which dyes are optionally added; the mixing operation is followed by sieving, after which the casting is carried out in roller molds or similar molds.

The mold is then placed in an oven, the temperature of which is gradually raised and maintained between 70 and <B> 100 '</B> and preferably at 90, this baking operation being carried out for a period of time. between two hours and four hours. The product is then demolded which is ready to be used.

In accordance with the second example, a mixture is formed consisting of: 100 kg of saturated aqueous solution of magnesium chloride; 95 kg of starch, the water content of which has been lowered by some method to bring it, for example, to about 0.5; and undissolved magnesium chloride, the amount of the latter being substantially equal in weight to the amount of water removed from the starch.

Advantageously added to the mixture specified above, 2 to <B> 10% </B> of a body capable of regulating the degree of humidity of the coating and preferably a low-drying oil, such as uncooked linseed oil. The aim is to prevent the coating rolls from hardening or drying out, so that they work in perfect conditions.

One proceeds to the intimate mixing of these bodies, to the sieving of the mixture poured into the mold, to the steaming and to the demolding in the manner indicated above.

It is obvious that the examples of implementation of the process indicated above are given only as an indication and are not limitative.
