Description
Kunstmasse. Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine press- bare Kunstmasse, gekennzeichnet durch eine innige Mischung von Sulfitablauge und an gequollenem zellulosehaltigem Material. Die Erfindung umfasst auch das Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser Masse, wonach zellulose- haltiges Material, z.
B. altes Papier, zerklei nertes Holz, Stroh oder ähnlicher Stoff an gequollen und mit Sulfitablauge (Sulfitzellu- loselauge) gemischt wird. Diese Masse kann verpresst werden.
Als Sulfitablauge kann man sowohl Lauge aus einem Calciumbisulfitverfahren, als auch Lauge aus einem Natriumsulfitver- fahren verwenden. Das Mittel zum Anquellen des zellulosehaltigen Materials, z. B. Natron wasserglas, kann auch der Sulfitablauge zu gesetzt werden. Je nach der Beschaffenheit der Lauge können zur Unterstützung der Bil dung von Calciumsilicat Calciumhydrogyd oder Zement beigemischt werden.
Diese mi neralischen Stoffe geben zudem auch die Möglichkeit, die Härte und Festigkeit des Fertigproduktes zu erhöhen. Die Lauge kann zudem noch mit Ammoniak versetzt werden.
Das zellulosehaltige Material kann durch geeignete Mittel und gegebenenfalls unter mechanischer Hilfe mindestens oberflächlich derart gequollen werden, dass ein zäher klebriger Brei entsteht.
Bei Vermengung dieses Breies mit der Sulfitablauge verbinden sich beide innigst miteinander. Die unlösliche Faser und die inkrustierenden Bestandteile werden auf- genommen, mit klebender Substanz umhüllt und das Ganze wandelt sich in eine pastose, homogene Masse um.
Das Anquellmittel für den zellulose- haltigen Stoff kann auch direkt der Sulfit- ablauge zugesetzt und der Stoff in der Lauge in einer Maschine so lange durchgearbeitet werden, bis sich die Anquellung und die Um w=andlung in eine pastose Masse vollzogen hat.
Zum Anquellen des zullulosehaltigen Ma terials können je nach dessen Beschaffenheit verschiedene Mittel benutzt werden; z. B. ist auf altes Papier Natron-Wasserglas beson ders wirksam. Andere Mittel sind zum Bei spiel Azetylchlorid, Zinkazetat oder Schwe felsäure.
Die so erhaltene pastose Masse kann schon in diesem Zustande zur Verarbeitung gelan gen, sie kann aber auch erst getrocknet und dann verarbeitet werden. Durch Zusätze zu cler Masse können die Eigenschaften des End produktes noch weitgehend beeinflusst wer den. Als solche Zusätze kommen zum Bei spiel in Betracht: a) Flüssige Zusätze: 1. Albumin aus Blut, Hühnereiweiss oder Casein, welches geeignet. vorbereitet als lei mige Masse oder auf der Basis von Galalith beigemengt wird.
2. Harze und Kunstharze, z. B. Bakelit firnisse oder Phenol oder Kreosot, die unter der Einwirkung von Formaldehyd in der Masse selber einen L: mbildungsprozess durch machen, oder Harze, die durch Lösungsmittel gelöst sind oder Harzseifen und geschmolzene Harze, welche der entsprechend erhitzten Masse zugesetzt werden.
3. Öle, welche durch Sauerstoffaufnahme oxydieren oder Stoffe -,vie Glycerin.
4. Teer, Bitumen und Asphalt, gelöst oder geschmolzen.
Kautschuk gelöst oder Gummimilch. 6. Gelatine und Knochenleim nach be sonderer Präparierung.
7. Gelöstes Zelluloid und Cellon.
B. Kolloide Lösungen fester Körper in einem Dispersionsmittel.
9. Chromsäure, Zinkchlorid, Schwefel säure, Ammoniak.
b) Feste Zusätze: Zerkleinerter Gummi (Gummimehl), Kork, Glas, Asbestfaser, Torf. Sand, Ze ment, Schwerspat, Russ, Sägemehl, Metall- oxyde, Metallspäne (Feilspäne) usw.
Es können auch verschiedene Zusätze kombiniert werden, sowohl flüssige unterein ander, als auch feste untereinander oder Ge mische von flüssigen und festen Zusätzen; z. B. Kautschuk und Casein, Gummimilch und Gummimehl, Kork und Zelluloid usw.
Der Charakter des Materials lässt sich durch diese Zusätze soweit verändern, dass es die Ähnlichkeit von filzigem Karton, har tem Kunstholz oder einer steinähnlichen oder metallischen Substanz annimmt.
Der Zusatz von Chromsäure, Zinkchlorid, Schwefelsäure oder Ammoniak bewirkt vor allem eine Änderung des fertigen Produktes, insbesondere bezüglich der Härte und Wider standsfähigkeit dieses Produktes gegen Flüs sigkeit.
Die Konsistenz der 51asse kann je nach der Verarbeitung variiert werden. Will man sie in Pressformen spritzen, so kann man sie mit einer Flüssigkeit verdünnen, welche wässrig oder ölig sein kann. Soll die Masse aber sonstwie gepresst oder gewalzt werden, so kann man ihr einen festen Füllstoff zu setzen oder sie durch Eindampfen verdicken.
Der neuartige Werkstoff kann gleich zeitig folgende ganz besondere Eigenschaften aufweisen. die ihn wesentlich von andern Stoffen unterscheiden: 1. Feuerhemmend.
z. Beständig gegen t>le, Fette, Lösungs mittel und viele chemische Substanzen.
3. Unempfindlich gegen Temperatur- sehwankungen, gegen Hitze und Kälte.
4. Leicht verarbeitbar.
Er ist daher in verschiedenster Art ver wendbar, z. B. für Hohlkörper, in denen man Ole und andere Flüssigkeiten transportieren will, als Fussbodenbelag in Fliesenform. Wandverkleidungen (Bauplatten), gepresste Gegenstände aller Art. usw.
Bei der Herstellung verfährt man bei spielsweise folgendermassen: 150 bis 500 Gewichtsteile Sulfitablauge werden mässig erwärmt und mit 25 bis 75 Gewichtsteilen ebenfalls erwärmten Natron- Wasserglas verrührt, dann werden 5 bis 40 Teile Calciumhydrogyd beigemengt. Geson dert wird zellulosehaltiges Material, z. B.
bis zu 950 Gewichtsteilen Altpapier in 45 bis 100 Gewichtsteilen Natron-Wasserglas oder in 30 Gewichtsteilen (verdünnter) Schwefelsäure in einer Zerreiss- und Zerfaser- maschine zum Anquellen gebracht.
Die .SuHitablauge und :das angequollene zellulosehaltige Material werden dann in einem Kneter so lange intensiv zusammen durchgearbeitet, bis beide Komponenten sich innigst miteinander vermischt haben und die Masse zäh und teigig geworden ist.
Soll noch ein Füllstoff, z. ss. Casein zu gesetzt werden, so werden 10 bis 25 Teile Casein vorher durch ein Alkali in bekannter Weise aufbereitet, mit Formaldehyd versetzt und der Masse zugemischt.

Both lye from a calcium bisulfite process and lye from a sodium sulfite process can be used as the sulphite waste liquor. The means for swelling the cellulosic material, e.g. B. soda water glass, the sulphite liquor can also be set. Depending on the nature of the lye, calcium hydroxide or cement can be added to support the formation of calcium silicate.
These mineral substances also give the opportunity to increase the hardness and strength of the finished product. The lye can also be mixed with ammonia.
The cellulose-containing material can be swollen at least superficially by suitable means and, if necessary, with mechanical aid in such a way that a tough, sticky pulp is formed.
When this pulp is mixed with the sulphite waste liquor, the two bind together very closely. The insoluble fibers and the encrusting components are absorbed, coated with an adhesive substance and the whole thing is transformed into a pasty, homogeneous mass.
The swelling agent for the cellulosic substance can also be added directly to the sulphite waste liquor and the substance can be worked through in the liquor in a machine until the swelling and conversion into a pasty mass has taken place.
To swell the Zullulosehaltigen Ma terials different means can be used depending on its nature; z. B. is particularly effective on old paper soda water glass. Other agents are for example acetyl chloride, zinc acetate or sulfuric acid.
The pasty mass obtained in this way can already be processed in this state, but it can also be dried first and then processed. The properties of the end product can still be largely influenced by additions to the mass. Examples of such additives are: a) Liquid additives: 1. Albumin from blood, egg white or casein, whichever is suitable. prepared as a paste or added on the basis of Galalith.
2. Resins and synthetic resins, e.g. B. Bakelite varnishes or phenol or creosote, which under the action of formaldehyde in the mass itself make a L: m formation process through, or resins that are dissolved by solvents or resin soaps and melted resins, which are added to the appropriately heated mass.
3. Oils which oxidize through the uptake of oxygen or substances - such as glycerine.
4. Tar, bitumen and asphalt, dissolved or melted.
Dissolved rubber or rubber milk. 6. Gelatine and bone glue after special preparation.
7. Dissolved celluloid and cellon.
B. Colloid solutions of solids in a dispersant.
9. Chromic acid, zinc chloride, sulfuric acid, ammonia.

Different additives can also be combined, both liquid and solid among each other or mixtures of liquid and solid additives; z. B. rubber and casein, rubber milk and rubber flour, cork and celluloid, etc.
These additions can change the character of the material to such an extent that it takes on the resemblance of felted cardboard, hard synthetic wood or a stone-like or metallic substance.
The addition of chromic acid, zinc chloride, sulfuric acid or ammonia mainly causes a change in the finished product, especially with regard to the hardness and resistance of this product to liq fluid.
The consistency of the mass can be varied depending on the processing. If you want to inject them into molds, you can dilute them with a liquid, which can be watery or oily. If the mass is to be pressed or rolled in some other way, you can add a solid filler to it or thicken it by evaporation.
The new material can also have the following very special properties. which essentially distinguish it from other materials: 1. Fire retardant.
z. Resistant to oils, fats, solvents and many chemical substances.
3. Insensitive to temperature fluctuations, to heat and cold.
4. Easily workable.

The procedure for preparation is as follows, for example: 150 to 500 parts by weight of sulphite waste liquor are moderately heated and mixed with 25 to 75 parts by weight of likewise heated sodium water glass, then 5 to 40 parts of calcium hydrogen are added. Cellulosic material is changed separately, e.g. B.
Swelling up to 950 parts by weight of waste paper in 45 to 100 parts by weight of soda water glass or in 30 parts by weight of (dilute) sulfuric acid in a shredding and fiberizing machine.
The .SuHitablauge and: the swollen cellulose-containing material are then worked through intensively in a kneader until both components are intimately mixed with one another and the mass has become tough and doughy.
Should a filler such. ss. Casein are added, 10 to 25 parts of casein are previously prepared with an alkali in a known manner, mixed with formaldehyde and mixed with the mass.
