Additional patent to main patent No. 197590. Process for the preparation of a chromating dye. The subject of this additional patent is a process for the preparation of a chromating dye, which is characterized in that 5-oxybenzene-1 .2.4 tricarboxylic acid acihydride with 2.4.5. 7-Tetramethylquinoline is condensed and the product thus obtained is treated with a sulphurizing agent.
Example: 18 parts by weight of 2.4.5.7-tetramethylquinoline, 21 parts by weight of 5-oxytrimellitic anhydride and 14 parts by weight of anhydrous zinc chloride are heated to 200-2200 C with stirring until the melt solidifies.
The cooled and pulverized melt is boiled with about 500 parts by weight of about 20/0 hydrochloric acid, the brown-yellow residue is filtered off with suction, washed neutral against Congo paper and dried. For further cleaning, it is practical to dissolve the condensation product from hot, raw quinoline, which requires about 30 parts by weight of quinoline to 1 part of substance. The dissolved product is washed thoroughly with cold, dilute hydrochloric acid and then with alcohol and dried.
The yellow substance decomposes when it melts and dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with red, in soda solution with yellow, in caustic alkalis with orange-red color. It has the following constitution
EMI0001.0022
For sulfonation, 10 parts by weight of the above compound are dissolved in 150 parts by weight of 65% strength oleum and heated to 140-1500 ° C. until a sample is completely soluble in water.
After cooling, the red solution is diluted with the same volume of concentrated sulfuric acid, poured onto about 500 parts of ice and the orange-yellow precipitate that has fallen out is suctioned off. The further purification is done by salting carrion from the hot aqueous solution in a known manner. The dyestuff = monosulfonic acid obtained in this way dyes wool from an acid bath vividly yellow and its fastness properties are considerably improved by subsequent chrome plating.
