Propulsion device in particular for cycles. In almost all of the cycles used to date, the propulsion system consists of a toothed chainring integral with the crank axle and on which is mounted a chain through which a small integral pinion is actuated. of the rear wheel axle which it drives when the cyclist turns the toothed chainring by actuating the crankset. However, this movement takes place by imparting a rotational movement to a crank, alternately with one foot and with the other. The effort required of the cyclist for this is necessarily irregular, because it varies for each position of the crank and has dead points.
This results in poor performance of this type of vehicle.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback. The device according to this invention is characterized in that it comprises a regulating flywheel driven by a pinion in engagement with the chain itself driven by the toothed chainring of the crankset, the freewheel being disposed between the crankshaft and its chainring. toothed.
Experience has shown that the invention makes it possible to increase the usual developments while reducing the effort of the user.
This assembly is preferably placed at the front and as low as possible, in order to lower the center of gravity and rationally use the effect resulting from the steering wheel when it turns at high speed.
The same result can be obtained by employing either a heavy flywheel, turning at low speed, or a light flywheel turning at high speed, but preference seems to be given to the latter.
The invention will be clearly understood by referring to the accompanying drawing showing an exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of such a cycle mounted thruster arrangement.
Fig. 2 is, on a larger scale, a sectional view of the attachment of the chair by axes housed in welded or brazed half-collars.
The wheel. regulator a is placed in front of the toothed chainring b controlling the chain c when the crankset is operated and as low as possible. This arrangement was chosen, as indicated above, with a view to lowering the center of gravity in order to obtain more stability and to use more rationally the effect of the regulating wheel, when it is rotating at high speed.
This flywheel a is actuated by means of a toothed pinion i on which passes the chain r controlled by the toothed plate b.
In addition, to enable. the user to coast, this one is. arranged between the crankshaft integral with my level m and the. crown b which can be, for example, integral with a ring or a sleeve concentric with said shaft. This arrangement allows the steering wheel to continue to operate when the user stops operating the pedal.
Finally, to prevent the rotation of the regulating flywheel from continuing to act on the pinion j when the brake is actuated to reduce the speed of the cyele or to stop it, it is possible to provide a disengagement system controlled by the control mechanism of the brake, to separate the flywheel from the rest of the assembly when acting on the brake.
The attachment of the steering wheel a to the cycle frame is preferably done by means of a small chair, one end of which d attaches to the inclined tube e connecting the steering lower connector f to the box of the g, crankset while the other end h attaches to the bottom bracket shell. The two ends are fixed by the k axes in z half-collars attached by welding or bra sure (fig. 2).
The device shown a. the advantage of not requiring any modification of the existing frames, except the addition, on the front inclined tube joining the bottom & steering connection to the bottom bracket, of a small chair maintaining the assembly: piston , flywheel and their shaft, as well as possibly the system allowing them to be separated.
