Process for the preparation of an azo dye. In, the, German patent specification No. 366530 describes a process according to which azo dyes are obtained from p-Aminoaroylaminosa.licyl- acids, their homologues and, substitution products,
such as p-aminobenzoyl-p-amino-o- and -m-kr $ sotiwäure or. p-aminobenzoyl-aminochlorosadicylic acid and those amino-substituted derivatives of 2,5,7-amino-naphthodosulfonic acid, the substituent of which contains a free amino group which can be further dia.zotbar,
with a-naphtholsulfonic acids. The dyes have good lightfastness and particularly good waterfastness.
It has now been found that if other types of derivatives of (4'-aminobenzoylamino), 2-ogybenzenecarboxylic acids, which are neither described in patent specification No. 3665.30 nor in patent specification No.
268791 are mentioned as the [4'-amino-3'-methyl] - respectively. the [4 '- (4 "- aminophenyl)] -benzoylamino-2-ogybenzene carboxylic acids or their homologues and substitution products:
EMI0001.0049
Used as diazotization components, surprisingly, while maintaining the good lightness to light, dyes with even better waterfastness are obtained.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of an azo dye. The process consists in diazotizing 5- (4'-amino-3'-methylbenzoylamino) -2-ogybenzene-carboxylic acid and coupling it with 2- (4'-amino-benzoylamino) -5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid.
The new dye is a red-brown powder that dissolves in water with a yellowish red color. It dyes cotton in yellowish red, good lightfast tones, which have very good waterfastness and are characterized above all by very good etchability.
Example: 28; 6 parts of 5- (4'-amino-3'-methylbenzoyl-amino) -2-oxybenzenecarboxylic acid are dissolved in 400 parts of water with sodium hydroxide solution, a solution of 7 parts of sodium nitrite is added and a solution of 28 parts of 19.5 Be hydrochloric acid in 200 parts of water.
The diazotization is complete in about one hour at room temperature. It then runs to a bicarbonate-alkaline solution of 36 parts of 2- (4'-aminobenzoylamino) -5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid. For isolation it is heated to 70 and made Congo acidic with hydrochloric acid,
vacuumed and dried. The dye is a red-brown powder that dissolves in water with a yellowish red color.
It dyes cotton in yellowish red, good lightfast shades, which have very good waterfastness and are characterized above all by very good etchability.
You can of course diazotize the dye on the fiber and z. B. develop with 2-oxynaphthalene or 1-phenyl-8-methyl-5-pyrazolone or post-treat with formaldehyde,
an improvement in the wash fastness is achieved. The good etchability is retained. In the same way, the dye can also be diazotized in substance and combined with the usual coupling components.
