Description

Process for the preparation of mosaic panels and panel obtained by means of this process. The present invention relates to a process for the workshop preparation of panels of wood mosaics, porcelain stoneware, enamels and the like. We know that at the present time, these panels are generally prepared by gluing the elements that compose them, by their visible upper face, on a sheet of paper which must then be peeled off after the panels have been placed on the ground or on the walls.

This method of prior assembly of the constituent elements of the mosaic by gluing on a sheet of paper nevertheless presents numerous drawbacks, the main ones of which are as follows: It is known that for installation, the panels are coated with a layer of cement suitable and applied to the floor or wall by hitting them with an instrument called a "bat". Under these conditions, and as the sheet of paper assembling the panel elements has no resistance, the elements accidentally having a lower thickness than the others sink further under the blows of , the bat , so as to be placed by their rear face on the same plane as the thicker elements.

This results in a difference in level on the surface which requires prolonged sanding for its removal.

On the other hand, the removal of the sheet of paper requires a certain time and, moreover, as the paper must be wet to be peeled, this operation often leaves, in the case of wooden panels, appearance spots. unpleasant.

The glued sheet of paper forms a fragile bond that can tear during transport or handling of the panels, or become unstuck if the panels are stored in a damp place.

Finally, the sheet of assembly paper covers the upper surface of the panel, so that the worker can easily make mistakes when laying the panel, which results in an error in the drawing and therefore the obligation to disassemble the panel. panel when, with the paper peeled off, the error occurs.

It has also already been proposed to prepare the panels in the workshop by assembling the elements of the mosaic on a flexible perforated support on which these elements are fixed or glued by their underside, this support being constituted, for example, by a network of wires. or by a perforated sheet of paper, so as to ensure direct contact between the wood and the cement. This method of assembling the elements of the. mosaic obviously makes it possible to leave the design visible during installation, but, on the other hand, it cannot remedy the other faults mentioned above.

The object of the method of the present invention is to remedy all these drawbacks by assembling the elements of the panel on their rear face by means of a flexible connection but sufficiently resistant to maintain their front faces at the same level during processing. laying and not hindering the laying of the panels with a cement plaster.

The process according to the invention is characterized by the fact that this connection between the elements of the panel is produced using pellets of adhesive substance placed at separate points located on the joints between the various elements of the panel and forming a sort of solder points.

A further subject of the invention is a panel obtained by means of said method.

Fig. 1 of the appended drawing represents, by way of example, a panel obtained by means of the process according to the invention, seen from its rear face.

Fig. 2 shows in perspective an apparatus for implementing the method according to the invention.

Here is how the process according to the invention can be applied: In FIG. 1, there is shown a mosaic panel 1 formed by elements, for example made of wood 2; 3, 4, arranged relative to each other, so as to form the desired design. These elements are assembled together in the workshop, before. pose. by means of small pellets 5, 5 ', 5 "..., ete. in adhesive substance, placed on the rear face of the elements at regularly spaced points located on the joints between the various elements, juxtaposed of the panel. The composition of the bonding pellets is chosen so as to produce an assembly.

both flexible and resistant to the, manner of that which would be constituted by articulations î i, For this purpose, one will preferably use latex added with glue to increase its adhesive power, as well as products increasing its consistency, for example example sawdust or cork, magnesian cement or all. other similar product.

These pastilles will have a thickness of 1 to 3 mm and a diameter of to 20 mm approximately, and if one takes care, before laying them, to arrange the elements of the panel upside down on a very flat surface, the visible upper surface of the panel will be perfectly level after this operation and the connecting pads, thanks to their resistance, will prevent any difference in level of the elements relative to each other during installation when the panel is applied with the bat on its support.

On the other hand, the gaps between the juxtaposed elements not being completely blocked by the pellets 5. 5 ', 5 "..., etc- the latter do not hinder the evaporation of the mixing water in excess of the. fixing cement layer. After laying, the bonding pellets can be used indefinitely and help to keep the panel in place in the event that the cement seal has not been carried out perfectly. on the other hand, during an installation error, this strong bond by adhesive pads makes it possible to tear off the entire panel, without breaking it up into separate elements, as is currently the case for panels mounted on a sheet of paper.

Moreover, the front surface of the panels assembled in accordance with the invention being visible during installation, the risks of installation errors are very reduced. The good leveling of the elements obtained for the reasons indicated above, reduces to a minimum the sanding operations after laying, which considerably reduces the cost of re-coming, as does the elimination of the paper peeling operation.

In fig. 2, there is shown schematically in perspective an apparatus for implementing the method according to the invention. As shown in the drawing, the elements forming the panel 1 are assembled upside down in the desired arrangement in a frame 6, their rear faces, of the tines to receive the connecting pads being turned upwards, while their front faces rest on the perfectly erected base of the frame. This frame 6 is then introduced into a frame 7 on which is articulated a perforated sheet plate 8, the location of the frame 6 and the perforations of the plate 8 being such that these perforations are located opposite the joints of the elements. of panel 1.

Behind the sheet metal plate 8, the frame is provided with a trough 8 in which the adhesive composition is located. The frame 6 being in place, the sheet 8 is folded down and the adhesive composition is spread over it, for example by pulling it from the trough 9 with a ruler, then pushing it back there again. The adhesive composition is forced by these two operations through the perforations of the plate 8 and forms the connecting pads at the locations shown in FIG. 1. The frame is then removed from the apparatus and placed on a rack while waiting for the binding pellets to dry, the drying requiring a few hours at normal temperature in the case of the composition defined above.
