Description

Process for the production of a mordant dye of the diozazine series. It has been found that valuable mordant dyes of the dioxazine series are obtained if diarylamino-1,4-benzoquinone derivatives of the general formula:
EMI0001.0006
where X and X ,, hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or halogen, and R and R, radicals of the carb-a.zol- and diarylamine series which carry a complex salt-forming group, and in which this group and that on the quinone nucleus bonded NI group are in different benzene nuclei, converted into the dyes by processes known per se.
According to the present invention. available dyes are new. For example, dyes of the following general formula can be obtained:
EMI0001.0021
where X is hydrogen, halogen or methyl, Y is hydrogen or halogen, R is the radical of a carbazole or diarylamine compound which contains a group forming a complex in the benzene nucleus not linked to the Oga zinc nucleus,
and in which Z denotes hydrogen or a sulfonic acid group.
The conversion of the benzoquinone derivatives into the dyes can be done both by treating with strong sulfuric acid, oleum or chlorosulfonic acid in the presence and absence of organic or inorganic oxidizing agents, and by heating the benzoquinone derivatives in a high-boiling organic solvent in the presence or absence of organic or inorganic between oxidizing agents, metal chlorides or acylating agents.
In the first process, depending on the reaction conditions and the constitution of the starting materials, both sulfone group-free and sulfo group-containing dyes are obtained. The second process gives dyes free of sulfo groups. The dyes can be sulfated afterwards.
The ortho-oxycarboxylic acid, ortho-oxycarboxylic acid ester, ortho-oxycarboxylic acid arylide or ortho-dioxy group, for example, are suitable as groups forming the complex salt. If no saponification of the ester or arylide group has occurred during the ring closure operation, saponification can be effected subsequently by heating with acids.
In some cases it is expedient to split off the excessively large number of sulfo groups in the dioxazine dyes obtained by treating the benzoquinone derivatives with sulfuric acid, oleum or chlorosulfonic acid by heating in moderately dilute sulfuric acid.

EMI0002.0033
The new dyes obtainable in this way are suitable for dyeing vegetable, artificial and animal fibers that have been pre-pickled with metal salts and pre-pickled mixed fabrics; on the other hand, they can also be dyed directly onto the vegetable, artificial and animal fibers and post-treated with metal stain, which in many cases results in dyes with excellent wet fastness properties.
Compared to the dyes obtainable according to the German Patent No. 402643, the dyes produced by the present process are more related to the fiber and give stronger and more valuable dyeings with better fastness properties.
The subject of this patent is a process for the production of a mordant dye of the dioxazine series, which consists in that the condensation product of chloranil and 6-amino-2-ogy-carbazole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester by heating in a high-boiling organic solvent, z.
B in nitrobenzene, converted into the Dioxazinverbin-Jung and the thus obtained diogazinedicarboxylic acid ester treated with saponifying agents, for example with strong sulfuric acid.
The dye has the following formula: carbazole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester of the following constitution are dissolved in 180 parts by weight of nitrobenzene and 9 parts by weight of anhydrous chlorine zinc are added. The mixture is heated to the boil for two hours and about 40 parts by weight of nitrobenzene are distilled off. After the cold he is suctioned off, washed with nitrobenzene, alcohol and water and dried.
10 parts by weight of the dye dicarboxylic acid ester obtained are heated to 95 to 100 ° C. in 270 parts by weight of 90% strength sulfuric acid for 3 hours. Here, saponification occurs without sulfation. It is poured onto ice, filtered and washed neutral with water. The new, soda-soluble dye thus obtained is a gray-blue powder that dissolves in water with a blue color. It dyes cotton and viscose in a deep navy blue.
Aftertreatment with chromium salts gives dyeings with a slightly greener cast and excellent fastness properties.
