Weft feeler for loom. The present invention relates to a weft feeler for a loom.
This feeler is of the so-called “needle” type, in which the needle, when the bobbin is exhausted, actuates a pawl intended to control the release of the disengagement of the loom or a mechanism for automatically changing the weft.
This type of feeler has various drawbacks, such as, among others, those resulting from the fact that the adjustment of the needle is difficult, imprecise and not sensitive enough and that the moving parts of such a feeler being too heavy. , the weft on which the needle strikes is damaged and causes thread breaks before the bobbin runs out, as well as the fact that the connection between the needle and the pawl is not suitable for its purpose, Whereas the needle acts on the pawl by means of intermediate organs.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the last mentioned drawback. AT,. This effect, the feeler according to the invention is charac teris6 in that the needle is connected in a direct and positive way to the pawl, and in that it actuates it so that no play between these two organs cannot occur. In a preferred embodiment, the adjustment of the position of the needle in a movable hollow rod can be done by a very accessible screw, integral with the pawl.
The movable hollow rod in which the guille is housed can be established in. light metal, because all the intermediate pawl control members are removed, so that the force exerted on the weft, at each contact, is reduced to a minimum, and thus a wire even very fine and delicate cannot be damaged.
In this embodiment, the needle can only come into operation when the bobbin has run out to a certain extent, and in any case not before the radius of the spent bobbin is less than the radius of curvature d. a concave notch made at the end of the movable rod, the thread not being damaged by the continual striking of the needle which only touches it when the bobbin reaches the predetermined degree of exhaustion. The shape of the needle is preferably such as to allow the operation of the feeler even if the shuttle or the bobbin tube is not in the correct position.
The preferably concave shape of the notch terminating the end of the rod, prevents the actuation of the feeler in the event that it comes into contact with the shuttle, the stopper or any other obstacle, the end of the needle being protected from any impact or damage caused. that it ends in the concave notch without ever going beyond its extreme edges.
In addition, this embodiment of the feeler can also be provided with a device for blocking and locking the adjustment screw, on which depend. the positions of the pawl and the needle-detector, fixing the position of the. screw relative. to the hollow rod, enclosing the needle, or vice versa, after having carried out the adjustment, thus preventing the screw from unscrewing itself as a result of the numerous shocks of the leaf and the trepidations of the loom during its operation.
This locking is preferably obtained by providing, on the one hand, the end of the. adjustment screw with a stopper. in the form of a transverse protrusion and, on the other hand, the surface of the hollow rod, containing the needle, at the corresponding appropriate place, of a cross-shaped size, in which the stopper notches is. taken and thus locks the screw.
LTne embodiment of the feeler forming the subject of the invention is shown diagrammatically, and by way of example, in the accompanying drawing i.

Fig. 4 is a side view of FIG. 3; Fig. 5 is a detail view, showing the position of the needle holder rod in contact with a full bobbin; Fig. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5, showing the rod in diametral section and the guille in side elevation, the end having two slices; Fig. 7 is a plan view and FIG. 8 a front view of the two-sliced needle;
Fig. 9 is a sectional elevation of part of the weft feeler, showing the adjusting screw with its stopper, locking in cross-shaped notches on the hollow rod; Fig. 10 is a plan view of the hollow rod provided with its cross-shaped notches.
Following. these figures, 1 is a support fixed under the clutch table, and on which is mounted oscillating, on a pivot 2, a housing 3 in which is housed the bottom of the body 5 of the feeler. held by tightening the housing by means of a screw 4.
4A the lower part of the pivot. 2 is fixed a ring 6 in which is housed a torsion spring 7 possibly allowing the horizontal oscillation of the whole feeler. in case of resistance or obstacle.
The support 1 further comprises an eccentric axis 8 on which is mounted the hub of an angled lever, one of the arms 9 of which comprises a plate 10, made of hardened steel for example, the other arm 9 'being . connected to joint at. the control rod 11 of the clutch or of the weft change mechanism.
Inside the body 5 of the feeler is arranged axially a hollow rod 12, made of light metal, held in the rest position by a pressure spring 13, bearing at one end on a shoulder 12 'of the. rod and, by the other end, against a plug 14 closing the bottom of the body 5.
A longitudinal opening is made in the rod 12 along one of its generatrices, the edges of this opening comprising, projecting, two projections or lugs 23 between which. Is fixed a pin 15 on which is mounted to oscillate a pawl 16 comprising a notch intended to engage the plate 10 of the lever 9, passing through an opening made in the wall of the body 5, said pawl comprising a projection or tooth 16 'engaging in a cavity made on the base of a detecting needle 19, housed and able to slide axially inside the front part of the movable hollow rod 12.
For the adjustment of the needle 19, a screw 17 is provided through the pawl 16, allowing, thanks to the tooth 16 ', to modify the position of said pawl and, consequently, that of the needle 19 with respect to the rod 12, this screw being braked by a res out 18.
This needle 19 is held by a pressure spring 20 resting, at one end, against the base of said needle 19 and, at the other end, against an adjusting screw 21 screwed into the rear part of the rod 12, a nut 22 with a locknut ensuring the locking.
The end of the movable hollow rod 12, intended to come into contact with the cans, has a concave notch 12 "whose radius of curvature is smaller than the radius of the full can, while the end of the needle 19 is flattened so as to form a concave curved slice 19 'whose radius of curvature is also smaller than the radius of the full bobbin.
The end of the needle 19 can also be shaped (fig. 6 to 8) so as to present two slices 1.9 'concave curves, these slices being characterized in that they are offset with respect to one another. another in planes parallel to each other.
The set of the two concavities of the trenches 19 'is such that it corresponds to the concavity of the rod, which gives the needle greater sensitivity and allows the feeler to be adjusted so as to obtain remnants of threads regular and reduced to the strict minimum as required by the weaves, the feeler still working with infallible precision, even if the threads are irregularly wound on the tubes.
Thanks to this arrangement of the offset slices 19 ', the wires can no longer wedge themselves and form a compact mass, as happens between two parallel slices of the same height, in the current needles with two or a greater number of slices, wedging that causes unwanted changes.
The feeler thus formed, its adjustment, for its normal operation, is effected as follows: The position of the end 19 'of the needle, which emerges in the concave notch 12 "of the end of the hollow rod 12, without ever being able to exceed this end because of its base which forms a stopper in the rod 12, is adjusted by means of the screw 17. Depending on whether it is unscrewed or screwed, the pawl 16 oscillates in one direction or the other, which causes a corresponding oscillation of the tooth 16 'ending in the cavity of the base of the needle 19, and consequently a retreat or an advance of the edge 19 'in the 12 "cavity.
To facilitate this adjustment, the axis of oscillation 15 of the click 16, .as well as the two ears 23 which support it, may include reference lines.
The adjustment of the sensitivity of the needle 19, according to the nature of the material used or the speed of the loom, is carried out by means of the spring 20 and the screw 21, comprising an appropriate graduation, which allows easy adjustment. and identical for all the feelers of the trades working on the same article.
Finally, the adjustment of the distance between the notch of the pawl 16 and the end of the clutch control lever 9 is obtained by the rotation of the eccentric axis 8, the distance from the position of the pawl 16 of the valve. guille 19, after adjusting it. The operation of the feeler is as follows: In normal operation, the movable hollow rod 12 is pushed back by the bobbin 24, which bears only against the edges of the concave notch 12 ", without being able to press on the edge 19 'of needle 19 (fig. 5), by a distance determined by the adjusted position of the feeler.
At the same time, the needle 19 moves the same distance with the rod 12, in which it is housed and, due to the resistance opposed by its spring 20, adjusted according to the nature of the material used, the The edge of the flattened part therefore only penetrates between the turns of the first layers of the winding of wire, which thus causes no action, the pawl 16 remaining at rest.
When the weft is almost exhausted, the bobbin tube, whose radius of curvature is smaller than the radius of curvature of Fencoehe 12 ", enters it by first pushing the 19 'edge of the needle back. 19, then the rod 12 when it comes into contact with the bottom of said notch 12 ".
As a result of the axial sliding of the guille 19 in the rod 12, the pawl 16, through its tooth 16 ', has oscillated so that its notched end has protruded out of the body 5 for then hook the end of the lever 9 and make it oscillate by the recoil of the rod 12, which causes, by means of the lever 9 'and the rod 11, the disengagement of the loom or the operation of the weft change mechanism.
Due to the fact that the edge 19 'of the needle, housed in the notch 12 ", cannot project beyond the edges thereof, it is protected from any contact with an obstacle such as, for example, the shuttle or stopper; moreover, because of this protection, the needle cannot be pushed back either, which avoids irregular and unnecessary changes of the weft.
In order to obtain the blocking and the worm rusting of the position of the screw 17 (fig. 9 and 10) relative to the hollow rod 12 and, thereafter, the fixing of the positions of the pawl 16 and of the needle 19, the end of this screw 17 is provided with a stopper 26 in the form of a transverse projection, which is housed in one of the cross-shaped grooves 27 provided on the surface of the hollow rod 12 where the stopper 26 of the screw 17 abuts.
For the adjustment of the desired position of the needle 19 'the stopper 26 is brought from one groove to the other groove of the cross? 7 by the rotational movement given to the screw 17. The latter is moved. is thus always blocked because its stopper is caught in one or the other of the notches of the rod, and it can therefore no longer unscrew itself; the device therefore remains carefully adjusted and locked in a determined position.
Of course, it would also be possible to provide another number of notches, for example in the shape of a star or a crown, instead of the cross described above and shown in FIG. 10.
We could also do a form of reverse execution, and provide notches in the end of the screw, while the stopper would be on the rod, or even take points that would come to rest as stopper. fit into the corresponding circular notches on the rod.
