Zu diesem Zwecke be sitzt gemäss Abb.
Gas or diving mask. The sealing of the gas masks in use today presents difficulties which the present invention is intended to remedy.
The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment from: the invention. The Darge presented gas mask has a face part a with the inhalation and exhalation valve unit gat b (Fig. I and; II). The edge of the face part c is provided with a groove d over its entire circumference. The edge of the face part does not rest on the face during use of the mask. This is achieved because an elastic seal is inserted between the edge of the mask and the skin of the face. This seal consists of an inflatable rubber hose. The cross section: this rubber hose e is adapted to the cross section of the channel d.
In order to ensure that the pressure in the inflated tube has an effect especially in the direction perpendicular to the edge of the mask, the side walls of the tube e are reinforced (Fig. III). The sealing tube is inflated by the wearer of the mask. For this purpose, according to Fig. IV, the hose sits with a valve-provided approach f, which ends inside the gas mask near the lips. The valve v1 is designed as a check valve. A second valve v2 of the hose, which can be operated from the outside, is used for emptying and also enables pressure to be regulated during use, the gas mask.
In order to prevent excessive inflation of the hose, the outlet valve v2 can be designed as a pressure relief valve.
This type of seal requires a better seal of the mask, because the air-filled rubber tube e follows every change in relief of the face exactly. Since the pressure in the hose is the same everywhere, wearing the gas mask is more comfortable than with the common types. In addition, this type of sealing has considerable advantages with regard to the adjustment, application and removal of the mask. The mask is put on by placing it loosely on the face and then hanging the retaining strap (not shown), which causes a looser fit.
Now the wearer grips the end of the valve attachment f with his lips and inflates the tube e until the mask is firmly seated. By inflating the sealing tube, the Ge face part of the mask is pushed away from the face and the initially loose Haltebän is stretched taut. The gas mask is removed by simply opening the valve v ", which also allows pressure regulation during use of the mask.
The advantages of the mask described over the gas masks in use today are u. a .. the following: 1. Since the face part of the mask does not touch the facial skin of the wearer while it is being used, it can be made of rigid material such as e.g. B. metals and their alloys ments, molded materials and synthetic resins, glass or other transparent materials be made ago. The face part itself can be stored for practically unlimited periods in contrast to the rubber face parts that are in use today. The use of stiff materials also offers greater security and, if metals are used for production, a certain protection against splinters.
The use of stiff materials also enables the face part of the gas mask to be constructed from transparent materials and thus an unrestricted side view of the wearer. Since rubber is chemically unstable due to its content of unsaturated compounds (methyl butadiene) and may not be able to withstand novel warfare agents, a mask with a face part made of a suitable rigid material is suitable to offer the necessary protection in such a case. On the outermost edge of the mask, a border g would have to encircle the sealing tube in an arc (Fig.
III) made of a suitable material that is pressed against the skin of the face when the sealing tube expands and thus isolates the tube from the outside.
2. The seal by means of an air-filled rubber hose requires, as I said, a better seal, since the rubber follows every change in the face exactly. It is also healthier and more comfortable, as the even pressure distribution results in a soft fit and there is no feeling of tension. The handling of the mask, in particular fitting and putting on, is made considerably easier. The rubber hose can be easily replaced at any time; it can only be loosely attached to the face part of the gas mask, for example by some eyelets that are hooked into the corresponding hooks on the face part.
The mask described can also be used as a diving mask if the valve assembly b is designed accordingly.
