Description

  Das Verfahren gemäss der Erfindung hat       somit;    den     Vorteil    einer praktisch restlosen  Verarbeitung der     Sulfitzelluloseablauge,    wo  bei die folgenden Stoffe gewonnen werden:       a)    ein praktisch vollkommen löslicher  Gerbstoff, welcher unter Einhaltung nor  maler     Gerbebedingungen    als Alleingerbstoff    verwendet werden kann, in einer Ausbeute  von ungefähr     60-70%    der organischen  Trockensubstanz der     Sulfitzelluloseablauge     oder     -ablaugenschlempe;     b) ein Grossteil des im Ausgangsmaterial  enthaltenen Schwefels in Form von Schwefel  dioxyd;

         e) ein Gemisch von Oxy- und Alkoxy- aldehyden, welches nach bekannten Metho den weiterzerlegt werden kann; d) die in fester Form abgeschiedenen Al kalisalze, welche sich aus den aufgewendeten Reagenzien gebildet haben und als Gerbesalz verwendet werden können; e) ein flüssiges Reduktionsmittel von starker Wirkung.

Man erhält 2$ Gewichtsteile trockenen Gerbstoff.

Process for processing sulphite cellulose waste liquor. It was previously known to use sulphite waste liquor as a tanning agent for so-called pseudo-tanning.

Another use of lye, but also only as a tannin additive, consists in removing lime salts and iron from the lye by means of an acid treatment and bringing it to the trade in a thickened state as an extract. In addition, a real Al leingerbstoff is known, which is made from dry, dusty waste liquor by condensation with formaldehyde, sulfurization and neutralization.

With these methods, only a relatively small evaluation of the tanning effect of the lignosulfonic acids is possible, with the recovery of the sulfur bound to the lignin not being provided.

It has also been proposed that by vigorous action of a high excess of alkalis on lignin-containing starting materials under the conditions of the potash melt, in the temperature range from 200 to 3.00, and work-up of the resulting melt to win tannins. In this process, from isolated Li, gnine or from sulphite cellulose waste liquor, partly low-molecular, easily soluble, but partly high-molecular,

Compounds that are only sparingly soluble or insoluble in water. Even in a temperature range above 120-200, an alkali treatment of sulphite cellulose waste liquor with partial or complete desulphurisation results in products which are soluble in dilute alkali but insoluble or sparingly soluble in water or acidic solutions. Since vegetable tanning agents are used in a strongly acidic environment, the need arose to improve the solubility of such tanning agents by taking special measures.

It was therefore proposed that the alkali-soluble, but sparingly soluble or insoluble intermediates in an acidic medium, which were obtained from the sulphite waste liquor and the like by the action of alkali at the specified high temperatures between 120 and 300, in alkaline solution in the presence of treat soluble sulfites with oxygen or oxygen-releasing agents to improve their solubility.

The method according to the invention for obtaining tannins from sulphite cellulose waste liquor (which is also to be understood as sulphite cellulose waste liquor) by the action of alkali and separation of the tanning substances formed from the reaction product by adding acid is characterized in that the alkali treatment of the starting material is carried out at temperatures not exceeding 100 C.

Surprisingly, it was found that if this condition is observed, i.e. when the alkali digestion is carried out at temperatures not exceeding 100 ° C., the sulfo groups are largely split off from the salts of the lignosulfonic acids with the entry of phenolic OH groups , whereby a simultaneous condensation takes place an enlargement of the molecule, and that the tannins obtained under these conditions,

which are obtained from the reaction product by decomposition of the alkali salts with acids, are soluble in water. The method according to the invention therefore has the main advantage that it leads in a very simple manner directly to tanning agents which are easily soluble in water, even in a strongly acidic medium, and which are used for tanning in accordance with the usual regulations without further treatment can be.

From the reaction product, which is obtained as a dark brown, viscous mass as a result of the action of the alkali at the temperatures mentioned, the tannins are won in a known manner by decomposing the alkali salts with acids. Since sodium chloride has a salting effect on the tannins, the reaction product is expediently treated with hydrochloric acid, the alkali metal salts of the tannin compounds being broken down and the released tannins being precipitated by the sodium chloride formed.

These tannins are insoluble in water in the cold, but easily and practically completely soluble in the heat and also remain in solution once they have been dissolved in the heat and then after cooling. The gaseous sulfur dioxide split off with acids during the decomposition of the alkali salts can be recovered and fed back into the pulp production.

As a result of the gentle conditions under which the alkali treatment takes place in the process according to the invention, not only can the tanning agents of particular properties be obtained from the reaction mixture, but, as has been found, other valuable products can also be obtained during their extraction of tannins from sulphite waste liquor are completely or largely destroyed under the more energetic action of alkali.

As such products, on which. Sulphite waste liquor or liquor liquor can be worked up in the context of the method according to the invention at the same time to win tannins, especially oxy- and alkoxy-aldehydes, especially vanillin, and reducing sugars and organic acids come into consideration.

To obtain such pro ducts in addition to tannins, one can proceed in such a way that one terlauge oxy- and alkoxy aldehydes according to known methods, eg. B. by Extrak tion with organic solvents or by steam distillation wins, with a residual solution that is rich in reducing sugary, substances and organic acids ren is obtained.

In order to avoid losses of oxy and alkoxy aldehydes during the separation of the tanning agents from the reaction mixture obtained by the action of alkali on the sulphite waste liquor at relatively low temperatures, the addition of acid, preferably hydrochloric acid, is expedient in this way dimensioned so that only bisulfite and some free sulfur dioxide occur in the acidified reaction mixture,

on the other hand, the presence of free mineral acid is avoided, since the free mineral acid. The bisulfite compounds of the oxy- and alkoxyaldehydes split off from the lignin in Nebenreak lion decompose and would lead to a separation of the aldehydes with the tannins in insoluble form. In this sense, the acidification of the reaction mass for separating the tanning agent takes place only up to: up to a pH value of 5.

Only after the tanning agents have separated out can the solution continue to be acidified. For example, if you turn to profit. If the extraction process known per se is used for the aldehydes, the mother liquor freed from the tannins is expediently adjusted to a pH <5, preferably to a pH between 2-8. Before or after the aldehydes have been obtained, the solution can be evaporated and the mineral salts, usually sodium chloride, obtained by crystallization and centrifugation or the like.

The. Salts deposited can be used as tanning salts.

The residue, which can at best be evaporated, whereby the setting of a pH value of 5 seems appropriate, is a rather thick gray-brown liquid which still contains large amounts of strongly reducing sugar-like substances and various organic acids and as a reducing agent for technical purposes , e.g. B. to reduce metal salts, in electroplating technology, paint production, gü- penfärberei etc. application and can replace the substances previously used glucose, hyposulfite, etc. in these areas.

  The method according to the invention thus has; the advantage of practically complete processing of the sulphite cellulose waste liquor, where the following substances are obtained: a) a practically completely soluble tanning agent, which can be used as a single tanning agent in compliance with normal tanning conditions, in a yield of about 60-70% of the organic dry matter Sulphite cellulose liquor or liquor slurry; b) a large part of the sulfur contained in the starting material in the form of sulfur dioxide;

         e) a mixture of oxy- and alkoxy-aldehydes, which can be further broken down according to known methods; d) the precipitated in solid form alkali salts, which have formed from the reagents used and can be used as tanning salt; e) a powerful liquid reducing agent.

Examples: 1. 125 parts by weight of a thickened sulphite liquor with 3.2.4% organic dry matter are treated gradually with 40 parts of solid caustic soda in a gneter at normal temperature, the addition of alkali being regulated in such a way that a temperature of 90-100 C is maintained. The mixture is stirred at this temperature for 6-8 hours, during which the reaction mixture thickens and turns dark.

After dilution with% of the volume with water, the pH is adjusted to 5 with hydrochloric acid. The precipitated tannin is filtered off and washed with 0.5% hydrochloric acid, later with water, cold, dried and powdered. 2 parts by weight of dry tannin are obtained. The tanning agent obtained is a sole tanning agent which is clearly soluble in warm water except for traces of a yellow-brown color.

The solution has a pH of 8 to 4 and can be used according to the usual tanning regulations. The tanning agent is almost completely absorbed by normally treated pelts. The leathers obtained are light brown, have a weakly aromatic odor and have a supple texture with good strength.

The mother liquor remaining after the tanning agent has been filtered off is combined with the washing liquid, heated and the sulfur dioxide which is split off is collected. From the remaining acidic solution, after setting a pH of 2 to 3 in a known manner by extraction with organic solvents (chlorine form, ether, methylene chloride, etc.) the oxy- and alkoxyaldehydes set free from their bisulfite compound as yellow 01 won. The yield is 3 parts by weight. The aqueous solution is then neutralized with alkali and evaporated to such an extent that the dissolved common salt separates out.

The remainder are 18 parts by weight of a liquid that can be used as a reducing agent.

  2. 130 parts by weight of thickened (spruce) sulphite waste liquor with 34.7% organic dry matter are stirred under the conditions of Example 1 with 67 parts by weight of strong liquor (60%) at 90-100 C for 6-8 hours, and the reaction mixture according to example 1 worked up. The yields are: 30 parts by weight of tanning material, 5 parts by weight of aldehyde mixture, 20 parts by weight of reducing agent.

  3. 128 parts of thickened (beech wood) sulphite liquor with 38% organic dry matter are stirred under the conditions of Example 1 with 40 parts of solid caustic soda at 90-100 ° C. for 6-8 hours. In the further work-up of the reaction mixture according to Example 1, 31 parts by weight of tanning agent, 8 parts by weight of aldehyde mixture, 18 parts by weight of reducing agent are obtained.
