Description
Process for the preparation of 6-caprolactam. You can use cyclic amides of a) -amido carboxylic acids, for. B. the a-aminocaproic acids, produce by hydroxylamine sulfate with a cyclic ketone, e.g. B. Cyclohexanone, stirred for a long time without supply of heat and then the temperature is increased to 90-150 C, after which the lactam is isolated in the usual way.
It has now been found that this Verf ahr s can still largely be shortened and simplified if, according to the invention, a suspension of hydroxylamine sulfate in cyclohexanone with constant stirring in preheated sulfuric acid or. is poured into the sulfuric acid isoxime solution, after which, optionally after dilution with water or ice, the reaction products are isolated in any manner.
Advantageously, oleum is added to the sulfuric acid. to bind the water of reaction more completely. The heat of reaction released can keep the temperature in the reaction vessel at the required level. If the suspension is fed in rapidly, the reaction mixture must be cooled. This cooling is advantageously provided by means of a warm liquid which is brought to the boil by the heat of reaction. The best performance can be achieved at a favorable temperature by a suitable choice of the cooling liquid and by regulating the inflow.
In comparison with the above-mentioned process, which required about 8 hours, the processing of the same amount according to the present invention only takes 1 hour, with yields of over 90 being achieved. The new process can be operated periodically or without interruption on any scale, safely and regularly.
The isoximes can be isolated in any way. The temperature is expediently set to 90-150 ° C. by cooling and by regulating the feed.
Exemplary embodiment: 100 cm @ conc. Sulfuric acid (D. 1.84) heated to 95-97 ° C. in the boiling water bath. The flask was fitted with a stirrer, thermometer and dropping funnel. The dropping funnel contained a mixture of technical-grade cyclohexanone (98, -g) with solid hydroxylamine sulfate (82 g), which was kept in a homogeneous suspension by constant stirring.
The feed of the suspension was regulated so that the temperature inside the flask was 102-105 ° C. The suspension flowed completely into the vessel for 1/2 hour. The contents of the flask were then heated in a boiling water bath for a further 1/2 hour. After cooling, the solution was poured onto 1600 g of ice and neutralized to pH 7 using concentrated soda solution. The thermometer showed - 9 to + 3 C.
The solution was then decolorized with activated carbon and 12 times with 80 cm? Chloroform extra here. After drying with calcined sodium sulfate, the extract was freed from chloroform by distillation; Crude α-caprolactam was subjected to vacuum distillation. The yield was 85% of the theoretical yield calculated on pure cyclohexanone.
Of course, the new method can be carried out in various ways. In the case of uninterrupted processes, e.g. B. the suspension of hydroxylamine sulfate in cyclohexanone on the one hand, sulfuric acid respectively. On the other hand, oleum to flow into the reaction vessel. The vessel is filled with preheated sulfuric acid from the start. filled with sulfuric acid isoxime solution.
The content is continuously removed below and processed further in the manner described above. If necessary, the reaction can be ended in another connected vessel, which can be arranged, for example, as an externally heated spiral. .
