Drill bit for mines, process for its manufacture and apparatus for processing
of this process.
The present invention comprises a drill bit for mines, which is characterized in that it comprises an impermeable continuous tubular sheath, coming from a stretched piece of thermoplastic material, containing at least the powder core.
The invention also comprises a process for the manufacture of such a wick and which is characterized in that, by stretching a mass of thermoplastic material, a continuous tubular sheath is formed, in one piece, around it. a core comprising at least the powder.
The invention also comprises an apparatus for carrying out this process and which is distinguished in that it comprises a powder supply duct, which opens inside a nozzle, without making contact with it. , this nozzle being supplied with thermoplastic material, to form a tubular sheath around the material coming out of this duct.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which the invention comprises.
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical sectional view of the apparatus according to II of FIG. 2.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view according to IT-II of FIG. 1.
The apparatus shown comprises a chamber 1, intended to contain a thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride with, for example, 30% plasticizer. all at the desired temperature so that the mass is plastic, In this chamber is a screw 2 rotating regularly and forcing the thermoplastic material into a channel 3 ending in an annular chamber 4. In the central region of the lower wall 5 of this chamber is fixed a nozzle 6 whose channel 7 opens vertically downwards, as seen in FIG. 1.
Opposite the nozzle 6, there is fixed, in the upper wall 8 of the chamber 4, a member 9 having the general shape of a truncated cone, which serves as a support for a funnel 10, the lower end of which is opens inside the channel 7 of the nozzle, without making contact with the latter. There is thus thus an annular passage between the wall of the channel of the nozzle and the outer wall of the funnel 10.
This funnel is made integral, by a weld 12, with a circular flange 13 located at a certain distance above the upper wall 8 of the chamber 4. This flange 13 is crossed by three bolts 14 making it possible to adjust the position. axial and lateral of the outlet end of the funnel 10, inside the passage 7 of the nozzle. It is easily understood that, when it is desired to adjust the position of the outlet end of the funnel 10 laterally relative to the nozzle, it suffices to screw or unscrew one of the screws 14 to make the funnel oscillate. approximately around the point of intersection of its axis 15 with the horizontal plane containing the small base 16 of the frustoconical part 9.
To adjust the axial position of the outlet of the funnel with respect to the nozzle, it suffices to screw or unscrew the three screws 14 by the desired quantity and to screw or unscrew the part 9 correspondingly so that the funnel keep pressing on it.
It will also be noted that the position of the nozzle 7 is also axially adjustable by screwing or unscrewing in the wall 5.
The operation of the device shown is as follows:
The funnel 10 is continuously fed by known means, not shown, so as to be constantly filled with powder. The screw 2 rotates and continuously brings the thermoplastic material into the chamber 4, so that the latter is constantly filled. An electric heating body 17 maintains the thermoplastic material which is in this chamber at the desired temperature. The pressure exerted on this material by the screw 2 expels said material through the annular space existing between the wall of the nozzle and the funnel 10, so that it forms at the outlet of this nozzle, by stretching, a continuous sheath, in one piece, which surrounds a bead of powder which is formed by the continuous outlet of the latter from the funnel 10.
In fact, as the powder flows out of the funnel, the tubular sheath is formed at the outlet of the nozzle and the adjustment is made such that the speed of formation of the tubular sheath is the same as the output speed of the powder, so that the filling of the sheath with the powder is absolutely uniform over the entire length of the wick thus formed.
The part 16 of the part 9 which is in contact with the funnel 10 is located in a region of this funnel having a small cross-section, that is to say a region where the flow speed of the powder is relatively high. . Thus, the powder does not have time to heat up noticeably. By the way, the length of. the funnel between the base of the part 9 and the outlet of this funnel is sufficiently
low so that, given the speed
flow of the powder, the latter has
no time to undergo significant heating by heat transmission from the thermoplastic material.
In addition, there is between the conical wall of this part 9 and the funnel 10 an empty space 18 facilitating the cooling of the funnel 10 and the powder that it contains.
To facilitate the regular exit of the powder at the base of the funnel, provision can be made for a thread, made of textile or plastic for example, to be arranged along the axis 15 and to be drawn through the mass of powder. contained in the funnel and there through
the exit of this funnel, in such a way
that this thread is caught inside the soul
of powder from the wick formed at the outlet of the nozzle. This thread could also be rem
placed by a strip of paper or material
plastic for example. One could also foresee; not a thread or a strip, but at least two threads that are twisted on top of each other
so that they pass through the exit
of the funnel thus being twisted together.
These two or more sons could be
moreover replaced by twisted bands of
analogous way.
We can * still provide that a band
of paper is drawn inside the funnel
10, so that at the exit of this enton
black it surrounds the soul with powder and
sheath in thermoplastic material comes
form on top of this paper envelope.
One could naturally predict, as
it is known in the technique of fabrica
tion of drill bits, than a covering
and an insulating layer are arranged around
of the thermoplastic sheath, just
after his training. We can also predict,
in a variant of the apparatus described, that
we first form a powder core
with, around her, a paper envelope
and, around this paper envelope, a
wrapping in textile material for example, and
possibly an insulation sheath, and that
the whole, which forms a bead, passes through the funnel 10 so that the tubular sheath of thermoplastic material is formed at the outlet of the nozzle 6 over the bead in question.
In this case, of course, the powder supply duct (with the paper envelope, the wrapping and, possibly, the insulation sheath around it) could not be funnel-shaped.
It will be noted that, in the arrangement shown in the drawing, there is the advantage that, the member 9 supporting the funnel 10 in the region of its base being fixed to the upper part 8 of the chamber 4, no obstacle n 'is encountered by the sheet of thermoplastic material engaging in the nozzle 6.
Under these conditions, it is ensured of the perfect continuity of the tubular casing which forms at the outlet of the nozzle.
The method described makes it possible to produce wicks s comprising, as we have seen, a continuous, impermeable tubular sheath containing at least the core of powder. The powder is thus completely protected from humidity. When lighting the wick. the thermoplastic material forming the sheath carbonises, and the propagation of the fire along the wick is ensured,
The wrapping and the insulating sheath referred to above can be produced according to the known technique, in particular to give the wick the usual outside diameter.
