Jet engine, in particular for aircraft. The present invention relates to a jet engine, in particular for aircraft, with a turbine, a propulsion nozzle through which the turbine exhaust flows, and with speed regulating means.
According to the invention, this jet engine is characterized in that the nozzle outflow surface can be regulated by means of a movable nozzle component for the purpose of changing the jet thrust, the latter and the aforementioned speed regulating means being controllable by a common control element in such a way that during the Movement of this control element, the nozzle outflow surface is kept at a predetermined size and the speed of the turbine is gradually increased to a maximum value,
whereas during the further movement of the control element this outflow area is reduced in order to increase the jet advance and the speed of the turbine is kept at its maximum value.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing, namely Fig. 1 shows a schematic view of a jet engine with turbine and propulsion jet nozzle.
Fig. 2 is a schematic development showing the relationship between the cam surfaces operated by the control lever and the cam surfaces with. the latter cooperating driver elements, FIG. 3 shows a diagram for the purpose of comparing the operation of the jet engine according to FIG. 1 and one of the previously common jet engines.
FIG. 4 is a vertical section of the centrifugal regulator indicated at 24 in FIG.
The gas turbine jet engine 10 has an axial compressor 12, a combustion device 14 and a turbine 15 between the front air inlet opening 16 and the jet nozzle 18.
The operating fluid discharged from the turbine 15 flows through the nozzle 18 to generate a propulsion jet, and this operating fluid is discharged to the turbine by the combustion device 14 charged with fuel and supplied with air by the compressor 12 driven by the turbine 15. The recoil or thrust occurring at the discharge nozzle 18 is changed in part of the operating range by axially adjusting the movable nozzle element 20.
In the present case, the latter is represented by the axially displaceable tail cone 20, which can be moved back and forth by means of the lever 21 to change the outflow area A.
For a better understanding of the united control of: machine speed and outflow area of the propulsion jet nozzle reference is made to Fig. 3, where the dashed curves b and c refer to a conventional turbo jet propulsion system as it is used today, while the drawn curves d and g relate to an arrangement according to the invention. The curves <I> b </I> and <I> d </I> indicate the turbine speed as a function of thrust, while curves c and g illustrate the turbine temperature as a function of thrust.
Ge usually a control lever is provided to adjust the fuel supply and thus the thrust, the arrangement can be such that the adjustment path of the control lever is proportional to your thrust by choosing suitable cams. Accordingly, in the conventional turbo jet propulsion system, the fuel supply and thus the speed are increased by operating the control lever to increase the thrust, as shown by the dashed line b in FIG. 3, while at the same time the temperature is increased, as by the dashed line c indicated.
In the jet engine shown, the nozzle outflow area is changed in the upper operating range while the turbine rotates at approximately full speed, so that the thrust can only be increased from about half of full thrust to full thrust by reducing the nozzle outflow area that you are dealing with an isodrome regulator that automatically comes into operation to cause a further fuel supply without any further change in the turbine speed.
The turbine speed and the nozzle outlet area are linked to one another in such a way that in the lower operating area, where the outflow area is slightly larger than that for full thrust at full turbine speed, the turbine speed is increased when the control lever is adjusted to increase thrust, as by the solid line d indicated in Fig. 3, the full speed being reached at e. If the control lever is then moved further in the same direction, the nozzle outflow area is reduced, with the thrust being increased at a constant speed, as indicated by the solid line between e and f.
The line g shows. With the help of such an arrangement, the turbine inflow temperature is lower over the entire thrust range, which extends the service life of the engine. especially if travel or normal speeds are maintained.
The turbine speed is regulated with the aid of a centrifugal regulator 224 having a speed adjustment device. The latter is driven by the turbine via a shaft? 5. The controller controls the fuel inlet into the line 6 leading to the combustion device 14.
The controller that comes into question for the present purpose can be of a hydraulic type and its function should be isodromic in the sense that the set turbine speed remains constant regardless of the fuel supply conditions of the turbine. One such regulator is. shown in FIG. This regulator? 4 has a lever 24a which, when it is moved to the right, operates the gear 24b in order to move the part? 4c with the rack upwards and thus change the force of the spring 24g.
The governor shaft is coupled to the turbine drive and forms. an integral part of the regulator pump <I> 24d. </I> This drive shaft also forms a rotary sleeve that surrounds the control slide? 4e. and. drives a sleeve that carries the two centrifugal weights 24 /. The centrifugal force of the rotating centrifugal weights is counteracted by the spring 24g, the tension of which can be adjusted by adjusting the control lever 24a.
As long as the control slide 24e assumes positions in which it allows relatively small amounts of fuel to pass through, d. H. In the area d of Fig. 3, there is in the steady state each balance between the centrifugal force of the centrifugal weights and the set spring load. In area -1, where the setting of the spring remains unchanged, the exhaust nozzle is moved in a closing direction. As a result of the build-up of the working medium in front of the nozzle, this causes a drop in the pressure gradient of the turbine and thus a decrease in speed as a result of a loss of power.
This also causes the centrifugal force of the centrifugal weights to drop, and the predominant force of the spring lifts the control slide via 24e, increasing the fuel supply and thus increasing the engine speed. But after reaching the equilibrium state of the control slide 24e will be more open than before. Because of this, the spring 24g is somewhat relaxed in relation to the previous one and has less compressive force to counter the centrifugal force of the centrifugal weights. This means that the spring comes into equilibrium at a lower speed than originally. And that is the characteristic of the usual speed controller.
An auxiliary spring 24h and a piston 24j are installed to counteract the tendency to set to a lower speed when the fuel quantities are large. As the fuel flow through conduit 26 increases, the pressure necessary to force this flow through the fuel nozzle into the combustion chamber also increases. A small part of the fuel reaches the inlet side of the pump via two narrowed openings one behind the other and a longitudinal bore in the control slide.
The pressure between these two narrowed openings, which is proportional to the fuel exit pressure in line 26, is carried from tree 24i to the underside of piston 24j. This causes a force to be exerted on the spring 24h, which supports the force exerted by the spring 24g and compensates for the decrease in the force of the spring 24g when large quantities of fuel pass due to the greater expansion of the spring when the control slide 24e is further open .
In the line duct from space 24i to space under the piston 24j, a throttle 24k is seen in order to delay the transmission of pulses and thus prevent the controller from oscillating.
A safety valve 24o is provided to prevent excessive pressures. This valve is set like this. that the back pressure on the relief valve 241) is reduced when the line pressure of the regulator reaches a predetermined value.
The lever 24ca is actuated by the rod 34 shown in FIG. which is pressed against a cam 36 by a spring 241. The lever 21 is connected via the lever system 27, 28 to a control rod 35 which is pressed against the cam 3 by a spring 2117. The cams 37 and 36 are connected to the control lever 38 in such a way that the cams influence the regulator 24 and the cone 20, as will be described below.
According to FIGS. 1 and 4 is. When the control lever 38 moves in the counter-clockwise direction (FIG. 1), the rod 34 is displaced by the cam 36 and thus the lever 24a from its extreme left position, in FIGS. 1 and 4, into its extreme right position v pivoted. During this movement, the cam surface h-i runs over the left-hand end of the rod 34, from the end Ir, with the smallest radius to the end i with the largest radius.
As a result, the bumper 34 is displaced to the right over its entire range of motion, the lever 24a being carried along to the right. whereby the part 24c is displaced upwards and the slide 24e is actuated accordingly in order to increase the fuel flow to the turbine.
If, on the other hand, the rod 34 touches the end of the cam 36 of maximum radius, a clockwise rotation of the cam causes the push rod and the lever 24a to move to the left as a result of the spring 2141, whereby through the intermediation of the parts 24b and 24e - and the spring 24g, the control slide 24e is moved downwards in order to reduce the flow of fuel to the turbine.
When the cams 26 and 37 are in the position shown in FIG. 1 and are rotated counterclockwise therefrom, the rod 34 is displaced over its full range of motion while it runs over the lN cam surface A-i. the end of the rod 35 slides along the cam surface k-1 of constant radius so that no displacement of the rod 35 occurs.
Accordingly, a change in the regulator-controlled fuel supply in the entire area where the cam surface k-1 passes over the end of the rod 35 does not change the cross-section of the outlet nozzle A through the push rod 35.
However, if the end l of part l - in the cam surface touches the push rod 35, further counterclockwise movement of the lever 38 causes the rod 35 to be shifted to the right as the radius of the cam disk 37 increases in the area of l-na . This adjusts the outlet nozzle in such a way that its cross-section is reduced from a maximum to a minimum.
If, on the other hand, the end m of the cam surface l-na touches the end of the rod 35, a clockwise pivoting of the lever 38 causes the rod 35 to move to the left, which is ensured thanks to the spring 2431.
The operation of the device is shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 schematically. If the cross section of the outlet nozzle is constant while running over the area k-1. is held and the surface h-i slides over the corresponding end of the rod 34, the fuel supply increases, where by the engine speed and the thrust also increase. When the maximum turbine speed is reached, as shown in Fig. 3 at e, a further increase in the thrust is achieved by reducing the cross section of the outlet nozzle.
For this purpose, the part 1.-m of the cam surface is moved counterclockwise along the rod 35 so that it is shifted to the right over its full range and thus reduces the cross section of the outlet nozzle from its maximum to the minimum value. This is shown in FIG. 3 by the line e-f.
The successive operations of increasing the turbine speed and reducing the nozzle discharge area can, as shown, be accomplished by moving the same control lever in only one direction. Safer and more reliable operation results from the fact that the thrust can be increased from 50 to 100 percent by simply adjusting the nozzle outlet area, while the turbine speed is kept constant. Therefore, the thrust for landing can be reduced without reducing the turbine speed. On the other hand, the thrust can be increased by reducing the nozzle outflow area, without bringing the turbine to a higher number of revolutions, which means that the aircraft can be accelerated quickly.
The pilot of an aircraft that is about to land is usually prompted by waving a flag to stay in the air until z. B. the runway is free. In such a case, he must be able to quickly accelerate his aircraft from landing to climbing speed.
When the tail cone is set to normal or cruising position and the turbine is set to full tur number, the turbine inlet temperature is considerably lower than in the case of a turbo engine with a nozzle with a fixed outlet area, as the comparison of lines g and c shows . This reduces the fuel consumption and the turbine outlet temperature at travel speed and thus extends the service life of the engine.
