Description

Machine-outil auxiliaire.

Auxiliary machine tool. The present intent is for an auxiliary machine tool for use in milling, drilling, grinding and other similar operations.

This auxiliary machine tool is characterized in that it comprises a frame supporting a tool holder head to which a drive motor is attached, this head being mounted so as to be able to be moved along guide columns forming part of the frame, and blocking members carried by the head, adjacent to the guide columns and mounted so as to be able to be brought jointly into engagement and out of engagement with these columns, so as to simultaneously exert practically equal locking pressures on them.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine tool forming the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is a partially sectioned end view of this embodiment.

Fig. 2 is a side view in axial section of the machine tool shown in FIG. 1.

Fig. 3 is a view from above of the machine tool shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.

Fig. 4 is a front view of a detail. Fig. 5 is a partial section through an auxiliary device for the machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Fig. 6 is a plan view of the mechanism of FIG. 5. FIG. 7 is a plan view of another auxiliary device for the machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Fig. 8 is a front view of a detail of FIG. 7.

Figs. J and 10 are views in elevation on a larger scale of details of the machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Fig. 11 is a plan view of a sliding table intended to support the machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Figs. 12 and 13 are views in elevation, respectively. end, of the table shown in fig. 11.

The machine shown comprises base and top plates 10 and 11 connected by four cylindrical columns 12 which, with said plates, constitute a frame in which a head 13 carrying the tool mechanism is slidably mounted, so as to , to adjust the position of the tool.

The guide columns include reduced diameter portions 14 and 15 (Fig. 2) which constitute shoulders 16 and 17 respectively; the parts 14 are threaded and screwed into threaded holes 18 made in the base plate 10.

The base plate 10 is rectified on both sides so as to be flat and parallel and the shoulders 16 are rectified so as to be perpendicular to the axis of the columns so that once the column is screwed into the hole 18, the shoulder 16 abuts against the upper flat surface of the base plate and guarantees the perpendicularity of the column relative to. the base plate and the surface on which said base plate is mounted, regardless of the precision of the screw thread. For this reason it is preferable (since the diameters of the column itself and of the part 14 of the latter present a big difference.

The top plate 11 is rectified in the vicinity of the columns 12 and each shoulder 17 is also rectified perpendicularly, the axis of its column. The holes 19 made in the top plate are smooth, but the part 15 of the column is long enough to protrude from said plate; a nut 20 screwed onto said part 15 maintains the plate against the shoulder 17 of the corresponding column.

Head 13 is. constituted by a hollow cast part which comprises four elongated bearings 40 allowing said head to smooth over the columns 12. The columns and the bearings are executed with great precision, so as to eliminate any lateral play.

Due to the parallelism of the flat faces key to the plate 10, the perpendicularity of the columns 12 and the precision of the adjustment of said columns in the bearings 40, the displacement of the head along the columns, and consequently of the bearing sleeve -tool 67, will take place in a direction perfectly perpendicular to the table on which the machine is mounted.

The position of the head is determined by means of a single screw 21 which is mounted in the top plate 11. The screw 21 is provided near one of its ends with a collar 22 and is adjusted by a cylindrical part in a hole \> 3 made in a bore 24 of the plate 11, said collar abutting against a flat surface of said plate. On the other side of the plate 11, a sleeve 25 is fixed on the screw 2a by a fixing screw 26. The screw 21 also carries a crank 26 'retained by a cap nut 27.

The sleeve 25 and the boss 2.1 are provided with corresponding graduations (FIG. 1), so that the rotational movement given to the screw 21 can be determined precisely.

The screw 21 is disposed in the frame parallel to the columns 12 and passes through a hole 28 made in a central support 211 (see FIG. 2) which serves to support an electric drive motor 100. The hole 28 is tapped to receive two sockets 30 and 31 forming an assembly into which the screw 21 is screwed. The threads of the outer surfaces of the sockets 30 and 31 have a pitch smaller than that of the screw 21 to allow precise longitudinal adjustment of the sockets in the crankcase. Once the bushes are properly adjusted, they can be fixed in position by means of set screws 32 and 33 (fig. 3).

By screwing or unscrewing. very slightly one of the sockets compared to. the other, the internal thread of one of the sleeves can be brought to bear against one of the sides of the thread of the screw 21 while the internal thread of the other sleeve bears against the other side of the thread of the screw 21. screw. He. It is thus possible, by adjusting the position of the bushes, to reduce to a minimum the play between the threads of the bushes 30 and 31 and the screw 21. Any wear on the threads can thus be easily taken up by moving the bushes. Notches 34 and 35 are provided at the ends of the sockets 30 and 31 to allow the position of the latter to be adjusted using a suitable tool.

The head 13 can be clamped in any adjustment position, as shown in fig. 3, by means of two clamping or wedging pads 36 and 37 capable of grouting ser in two coaxial holes 38 and 39 drilled in the opposite walls key to the head and in which the columns 12 protrude. The pages 36 and 37 show parts 40 and. 41 notched in the shape of the columns 19 with which they are intended to come into contact when said pads are sufficiently pushed into the holes. These pads 36 and 37 are connected by a rod 42 which freely passes through a hole drilled in the shoe 36 and is screwed into a hole 43 drilled in the shoe 37.

The outer end of the. rod 42 is provided with a head 4.4 which fits against the pad 36 and. has a hexagonal housing 45 intended to receive a male key.

A slight rotation of the rod 42 in one direction has the effect of bringing the pads 36 and 37 together as well as their parts 40 and 41, so as to tighten them against the columns 12 and lock the head in position. . A slight rotation of the rod in the other direction releases the pads 36 and 37 of the columns 1.2 and again allows the displacement of the head 13 by means of the screw 21.

The wedging members 36 and 37 being dependent on each other as to the value of the pressure exerted by each of them on the guide columns, they necessarily act simultaneously and with equal pressure. This is to prevent the. head 13 does not move as it would if each column clamping member were operated independently. Another advantage is to obtain a tightening by a single operation instead of two as would be the case for the components (the blocking operated independently.

A worm gear mechanism and worm wheel is mounted in the head 1.3. The screw 46 (fig. 1 and 2) is mounted on ball bearings 47 and 48 which are arranged in bores 49 and 50 made in the opposite walls of the. head 13 which are thickened to provide sufficient support to the bearings 47 and 48 as well as to the means for retaining and adjusting them. The screw shaft is provided with stop collars 53 and, 54 and cylinder parts 55 and 56 which are engaged in the bearings.

The bore 50 is threaded at its outer end, and a cover 57 (fig. 1), provided with two holes 58 allowing it to be entered with a key, is screwed into said threaded part. The cover 57 closes the hole 50 and prevents the leakage of oil from the interior of the head 1.3. The other end of screw 46 goes through bore 49 and is. split at 59 to receive a pulley 118. A threaded adjusting ring 61, which surrounds the shaft, rests against the outer end of the bearing 47. It is provided with two holes 62 to receive a special operating tool.

A gasket 63 of absorbent material is held in place in a cavity 64 made in the ring 61, by means of an elastic ring 65 which is fitted in a slot 66.

It is not only possible to reduce the axial play. of the worm by tightening either the cover 57 or the ring 61 or both, but also to change the axial position of the. endless screw by causing the rotation of the cover and the. ring to move them in the same axial direction.

The wheel 68 (fig. 1) is keyed at 81 on a sleeve 67 mounted in roller bearings 69 and 70 arranged in bores 71 and 72 provided in the walls of the head 13. The inner ring 73 of the bearing 69 bears against a shoulder 74 of the sleeve 67, and the outer ring 75 is mounted so as to. be able to slide in the bore 71; she is. held in place by a threaded adjustment ring 76 (fig. 2 and 4) which carries a sealing washer 77 held in place by an elastic ring 78 arranged in an annular groove 79. The wheel 68 abuts against a shoulder 80 of the sleeve 67.

The inner race 82 of the bearing 70 bears against the wheel 68, and the outer race 83 is slidably fitted. in the bore 72 in which it is. held by means of a threaded adjustment ring 84 (fig. 2 and 9) which carries a sealing washer 85 held in place by means of an elastic ring 86 disposed in a groove 87.

By screwing the adjusting rings 76 and 84 more or less, it is possible not only to take up the play of the roller bearings, but also to adjust the position of the sleeve 67, so as to adjust the position of the wheel 68 by compared to the worm. The rings 76 and 84 are. provided with notches 88 and 89 to allow them to be screwed in using a special tool.

The combination of the adjusters 57, 61, 76 and 84 with the worm mechanism eliminates the axial displacement of both the screw and the tool spindle. This therefore eliminates chatter and tool vibration due to either bearing loosening or. the cyclic action as it appears for example with a toothed bur. Another advantage of adjusting the axial position is to increase the mechanical transmission efficiency and decrease the tendency to wear by centering the worm wheel relative to the worm, so that the surfaces engaged are held in the correct relative position.

The end of the sleeve 67 adjacent to the roller bearing 69 has a tapered bore intended to receive a removable spindle 90 which supports a cutting tool constituted, for example, by a milling cutter 91 shown in FIG. 2. At the other end of the sleeve 67, the bore is of reduced diameter, thus forming a shoulder 92 against which bears a bearing surface 94 of a rod 93 mounted to rotate in this portion of reduced diameter. to retain the. spindle carrying the cutting tool. The inner end of the rod 93 is screwed into a threaded hole 96 provided in the pin 90 for turning a handwheel. by hand 95 the spindle is pulled into the man ehon to be blocked in the latter and can also be driven out by turning the handwheel in the other direction.

A closure plate 1ô ', fixed by means of screws 14' on the top of the head 13. prevents oil from escaping and protects the worm and the impeller 68.

A drive motor 1.00 (see Figs. 2 and 3) is mounted on the support member 29 with its shaft 101 parallel to the worm 46. The distance between the shaft 101 of the motor and the screw 46 can be adjusted and the low engine abutment around an axis practically. perpendicular to a plane passing through the axis of shaft 1.01, as will be described later.

The motor is supported by means of a console 102 (see Figs. 2, 3 and 10), generally triangular in shape, which is provided with two parallel flanges 103_ arranged perpendicular to the plane of the console and provided with coaxial holes 104. The flanges 103 are placed on either side of the support 29, in planes parallel to the columns 12; they fit on the flat parallel faces of said: support. The central support is provided with an elongated slot 105, parallel to the plates 10 and 11. A bolt 106 passing through. through this slot and the holes 104 of the console 102 serves to block this. last in position.

An opening 106 ', provided in the center of the console 102, allows the console 102 to be swung around the bolt 106 as a pivot and to be advanced or retracted with the bolt 106 which moves in. opening 105. One or the other of said movements constitutes a means for changing the distance between the axes of the. screw 46 and motor 100 to adjust the tension of a transmission belt 119.

The axis of the motor is kept parallel to the axis of the worm when the console 102 is tilted or the bolt 106 moved in the groove 105, because the flanges 103 and the planar side faces of the support 29 are. pa rallel to columns 12 which, at. in turn, are perpendicular to the axis of the screw 46.

The motor comprises two supports 107 and 108 attached thereto by screws 109. These supports include legs 110 and. 111 drilled with holes 112 and 113, the axes of which are in a plane perpendicular to a plane passing through the axis of the engine.

A hole 114 is made in the narrow end of the triangular bracket 102; the axis of said hole is perpendicular to the plane of the console and an arcuate opening 115 is provided at the wide end of the latter, this opening having the hole 11.1 as its center of curvature. The support 707 is fixed to the console 1.02 by a bolt 116 which passes through holes 114 and 112, the support 108 is fixed to the console 102 by means of a bolt 1.17 which passes through the opening 115 < / B> and hole 113. Hole 114 is normally aligned with sleeve 67 of wheel 68.

By loosening bolts 7_16 and 117 and turning the whole motor 100 around bolt 116, shaft 101 is swung around the axis of sleeve 67 when console 102 is parallel to the columns. 12. The purpose of this adjustment will be described later.

The engine can. be mounted so that its journal extends either to the right or to the left of the frame by removing bolts 116 and 117; while turning. end to end, bolt 11.6 then passing through groove 115 and bolt 117 through hole 114.

The ball bearings 47 and 48 are of the same diameter; the threads of the bores 49 and 50 are also of the same diameter, and the worm 46 is constructed in such a way that it can operate in both directions with respect to the wheel 68. Therefore, the tangent screw 46 can be fitted. with pulley 118 extending from either side of the machine.

It is, therefore, obvious that the mechanism can be assembled with the extension of the worm 46 and the shaft 101 of the motor on either side of the shaft. . ma chine, allowing pulleys 118 and 120 to be placed on one side or the other, to the right where they do not interfere when the machine is operating near obstacles.

The stepped pulley 118 can be adjusted along the slot 59 and held in position by means of a set screw 118a (Fig. 3). This pulley is driven by means of a belt 119 from another louse in stages 120 mounted on the 1.0l shaft of the motor. The motor shaft is. also split, so that the pulley 120 can. also be adjusted axially on said shaft and fixed to the latter by means of a fixing screw 120a ..

The two stepped pulleys are preferably of different diameter; thus, the pulley 118 comprises, for example, stages of 35, 50, 75 and 1.00 mm in diameter, the pulley 120 being constituted by stages of 50, 75, 100 and 150 mm in diameter. These differences in the diameter of the stepped pulleys are not essential, however, since two pulleys with four floors of the same diameter already make it possible to obtain ten different transmission ratios.

The stepped pulleys are interchangeable on both shafts and. can be mounted on each of the shafts with any end facing out. One of the floors of one of the pulleys is aligned with. one of the stages of the other pulley so as to obtain the desired transmission ratio between the two shafts. The adjustment of the center distance of the lice can be effected by tilting the console 102 around the bolt 106. In this way, a large number of transmission ratios can thus be obtained. Figs. 5 and 6 show an auxiliary device intended to be used when the cutting tool must rotate about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve 67.

The face 121 of the head 13 (Figs. 2 and 4) is machined and has a curved groove 122 of T-shaped section which has. as the center, the axis of the sleeve 67. As shown in FIG. 4, the slot 122 opens onto the lower edge of said face and constitutes an opening 123 which allows. the introduction of the head of the bolts 124 serving to mount the auxiliary device on the head. This device shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 includes a plate 125 and a cylindrical support member 126 for a shaft 127. This. shaft is driven by the intermediary of bevel wheels 128 and 129 by means of a spindle 130 fixed in the sleeve 67 in the manner already described.

A cutting tool, such as a cutter 127 ', is. mounted on the end of the shaft 127. The curved groove 122 allows. to the plate 125 to be fixed in different positions and thus the angular position of the shaft 127 can be adjusted as desired. This arrangement increases the possibilities of using the tool. Another auxiliary device for a tool intended to rotate at right angles to the sleeve 67, that is to say parallel to the axis of rotation of the motor, is shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. In these figures, a grinding wheel 130a is carried by a spindle or tool-holder shaft 131.

This shaft 131 is carried by a 1.31a housing, manufactured with a console 132 mounted on the head 13 by means of bolts 135 engaged in the groove '1.22 (fig. 2 and 4) . A pulley 1.33 is arranged on the shaft 131 so that it can be driven by the motor 100 via a pulley 120b and a belt 134.

The tool-holder shaft 131 can be fixed in any angular position by turning the console 132 relative to the head 1.3 around the axis 132a (fig. 8) and tightening. the bolts 135. The motor 100 can be swung around the axis of the bolt 11.6 which is aligned with the axis 132a transverse to the axes of the guide columns. The tool. and the drive shaft of the motor can, therefore, be rotated about parallel axes in a wide range of angular positions of the shaft 131 and good driving conditions are thus maintained. .

The motor has a much larger diameter than the crankcase 131a. It is, therefore, disposed with its shaft above the axis of the sleeve 67 to prevent the lower side of the motor coming into conflict with the surface on which is mounted. plate 1.0 when the head 13 is. moved to its lowest position. The axis of rotation of the tool-holder shaft and the common axis 132d. of the crankcase 131a are. placed closer to the lower end of the frame than is the axis of rotation of the motor shaft so that the tool can be brought closer to the workpiece. work by movement of the tool head along the guide columns without hindering the transmission from the engine.

The frame of the machine tool depicted with reference to the drawing can be mounted on any suitable table or surface. Holes 136 are provided in the base plate 1.0, so as to. allow the fixing of said plate on the table of a machine such as a lathe, milling or leveling machine, vice or other on the mounting face. We can. also mount the frame on a base table 137 intended to be fixed on the table of a machine tool. In this case, a displacement mechanism chi built with respect to this table 137 is provided, as shown in FIG. 13, so that the assembly of the auxiliary machine tool shown is likely to be approached or moved away from one side to the other of the workpiece.

This movement mechanism (Figs. 11 to 13) comprises a lower carriage 138 mounted so as to move longitudinally with respect to the. base table 137 and. a transverse carriage 139 mounted on the carriage 138 and capable of moving perpendicular to the direction of movement of said carriage. inferior.

The base table 137 consists of an elongated base plate which will preferably have two to three times the length of the plate (base 1.0. Two legs 140 provided on one side of the base table and one Notch 141 provided at the center of the opposite end of said plate enables the latter to be bolted to a support, longitudinal stiffening ribs 137a are provided on the upper face of the table.

An elongated rectangular opening 1-l '? is, performed in the table 137 along the longitudinal axis of the latter. A backstage element at. swallowtail 143 rigidly attached to the. upper surface of the table 137 by means of screws 144 has an opening 145 corresponding to. the opening 142 made in the table 137.

A control screw 146 is disposed in the openings 142 and 145 and has a smooth part 1.-16a. supported in a pa lier 1.47 that is. partially constituted. by table 137 and partially by the swallowtail element 1-13. The other end of the. screw 1-16 has a hole in which the end of a screw 149 is adjustably disposed as in a bearing. Screw 1.49a is screwed into a hole drilled half in the table, half in element 1.13.

The outer end of the screw is provided with a head 148 which ends in a square 149 intended to be maneuvered at. using a wrench to turn the screw. A collar 147a of the screw bears against the inside face of the openings. The head 148 is also provided with a graduation 148a, at the end of which the adjustment position of the carriage 138 can be read.

The carriage 138 includes a plate approximately the size of the base plate 10 and which has a skylight groove 150 in its lower surface, accommodating the element 143 fixed to the table 137. The carriage 138 can thus slide. longitudinally on the table 137. A block 1.51, fixed to the center of the underside of the lower carriage 138 by means of screws 152, is drilled with a threaded hole 153 in which the screw 146 is engaged, so that by turning this screw, the carriage 138 moves along the table 137.

To eliminate play in the swallowtail assembly, the female swallowtail 150 is slightly wider than the male swallowtail 143 and a lard 154 (Fig. 12) is disposed between them. Two screws 155, screwed into holes 156 made on the side of the carriage 138, allow adjustment of the gib. Holes 1.55a, drilled in one of the side ribs 137 of the table, make it possible to reach said screws.

The carriage 138 is also provided with an element 157 in the form of a swallowtail fixed on its upper face by means of screws 158, this element being arranged perpendicular to the swallowtail groove of the underside of the carriage. (see fig. 13). The swallowtail member 157 and the carriage 138 have aligned central openings 159 and 1.60 in which is disposed a drive screw 161 carried by bearings 162 and 163 similar to those of the screw 146. The outer end of the control screw 161 is provided with a head 164 provided with a size 164a and a control square 165. A collar 165a of said screw bears against the interior surfaces of the openings 159 and 160.

The inner end of the control screw 161 has a bearing hole, in which the end of a screw 166 is. dis posed in an adjustable way. The screw 166 is screwed into a hole 167 drilled half and half in the upper part of the carriage 138 and in the lower part of the tail member delle 1.57. The transverse carriage 139, which is mounted on the carriage 138, is constituted by a thick plate having approximately the dimensions of the base plate 10 and intended to be fixed to the carriage 138 by means of screws 168 passing through the holes 136 of the base plate and screwed into holes 169 of the carriage 139.

The carriage 139 is provided with a swallowtail groove 170 which fits over the swallowtail member 157, the carriage. 139 being thus held against the carriage 138, but being able to move freely along the hiron tail element 157. A block 171, fixed to the lower face of the carriage 139 by screws 172, is drilled a threaded hole 171a in which the control screw 161. is engaged. Block 171 fits into openings 159, 160 and moves along them when the screw is rotated.

As in the previous case, a gib 173 is provided between the carriage 139 and the element 157 and can be adjusted by means of screws 174 screwed into holes 175. The rotation of the control screw 146 causes the displacement of the 'together on the table 137 along the axis of the screw. The rotation of the control screw 161 causes the carriage 139 to move along the axis of the screw perpendicular to the first movement. described above. The backstage play can be taken up by means of screws 155 and 174 and wear can thus be compensated.

The threads of screws 146 and 161 are preferably the same and. the swallowtail elements as well as the openings in the two carriages are identical. In this way, if movement of the frame is required only in one direction and it is desired to bring the tool closer to the surface on which it is mounted, the carriage 138 can be removed and the carriage. transverse 139 can be mounted directly on the base table. This reduces the height of the machine.

The illustrated embodiment of the machine tool therefore comprises a tool driven by a motor and which can be moved relative to the frame of the machine tool by imparting a rotation to. a simple crank, and locked in the desired operating position. The entire frame can be moved closer or further away from the workpiece by means of the frame moving device. All moving parts of the machine can be adjusted to eliminate unwanted clearances or reduce them to a minimum to avoid tool chattering while working and to achieve high precision in tool control.

Adjusting the distance between the motor shaft and the endless screw enables a large number of ratios to be obtained. of speeds. The machine shown can also be used with an auxiliary tool which is driven directly from the motor and whose angular position with respect to the. base plate can be easily. changed. .
