Description

Liquid fuel burner. The object of the invention is a liquid fuel burner, comprising a swirl chamber supplied with fuel arriving via a supply channel, a valve designed to close a final outlet orifice of said swirl chamber, orifice through which the fuel exits in the form of a mist, and means for creating a preliminary circulation when said valve closes the final outlet port.

When the burner is used to burn fuels which are solid or semi-solid at normal temperature (for example 15 C), it is necessary to heat the fuel and sweep the interior of the burner with hot liquid fuel up to at. the swirl chamber before opening the burner. Preliminary circulation is also beneficial in some cases when burning liquid fuel at normal temperature, especially light oils which do not need to be heated.

For example, when a combustion chamber has several burners, some of which can be closed under low load, the cold liquid fuel circulating in the iron burners is used. to cool them and thus protect them against the risk of damage caused by the elialeur of the flame of the other burners which continue to operate. It must be understood that the expression preliminary circulation must be considered as designating. the eireulation of fuel in the burner body at any time when the burner is not operating.

The burner according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a preliminary circulation channel which communicates at one of its ends with a pipe provided with a closing member and connected to a fuel tank, this channel s 'extending into the body of the burner to a point adjacent to the swirl chamber where it communicates with the fuel supply channel, and in that said final orifice valve is pushed into its closed position by a spring and that it is arranged so as to open against the action of this spring under the effect of the pressure exerted by the feed fuel in the preliminary circulation channel when said iron meture member is closed .

The valve in the closed position, in addition to closing the final orifice, can be arranged so as to close at least one swirl orifice and not to open this orifice until it has opened the final orifice and Sufficiently cleared to allow fog to form normally.

The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the burner according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view, in which the valve is in the closed position.

Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are sectional views respectively following. lines II, III and IV of FIG. 1, the valve of fig. 3 being in the open position, and FIG. 5 is a partial sectional view of the tip of the burner, the valve being in the open position.

In the embodiment shown, the body of the burner comprises a hollow cylindrical casing 1, in which is housed an interior element 2 of generally cylindrical shape, having flats 3 which constitute with the casing 1 two separate channels 4 and 5, parallel to the axis of the burner. Channel 4 is the fuel supply channel and channel 5 is the preliminary circulation channel. These channels 4 and 5 communicate at a point near the tip of the burner via a peripheral groove 6 formed in the periphery of the inner element 2. Swirl orifices 7 communicating with this groove 6 are formed in the element. interior 2 and bring the fuel tangentially into a turbulence chamber 8 formed at the front end of the burner.

The inner element 2 has a cylindrical bore in which slides a needle valve 9 which is formed of a plunger piston of generally cylindrical shape drilled along its axis with a bore 10. The seal between the bore of the inner element 2 and the needle valve 9 is sealed to the passage of liquid at least at the front end 9a., so that, when the valve is in its front position (fig. 1), it closes the turbulence orifices 7 .

The front end or head 9b of the needle valve is of reduced diameter and penetrates into the turbulence chamber 8 and the outer surface of the head 9b of this valve is bevelled so as to form a seat tight to the passage of liquid. resting against the conical inner wall of the swirl chamber 8, when the valve is in its previous position (fig. 1). The bore 10 of the needle valve, which opens into the swirl chamber, constitutes a return flow channel when the burner is in operation (fig. 5).

The rear end 9c of the valve is of larger diameter and housed in a bore of corresponding dimensions formed in the inner element 2. Flats 3 (FIG. 2) of the element. interior 2 are provided. from a point located slightly in front of this larger diameter bore, considering fig. 4, and two pipes 11 and 12 enter at this point. in the casing 7 of the burner on each side and eonimunicluent respectively with the supply channel 4 and the preliminary circulation channel 5 in the casing.

The pipes 17 and 12 communicate with a fuel tank, not shown, and a pump, also not shown, is interposed in the circuit to circulate the fuel. The larger diameter part 9c of the needle valve ends at its end anterior to the voi sinage of the shoulder formed at the point of meeting against bores of different diameters of the inner member 2, but leaving a small amount set 13. L n channel 14 starting from channel 4 or channel 5 (in the case shown of channel 5) creates a communication with slot 13.

If the circulation is interrupted in channels 4 and 5 by closing a stop valve 15 in the preliminary fuel circulation pipe 12, the feed pump tends to create pressure in the pipe device comprising pipe 11, channel 4, channel 6, channel 5 and pipe 12 up to the stop valve. 1.5, and this pressure is transmitted to the gap 13 via the communication channel 14. This pressure causes the back and forth movement of the needle valve 9 against the action of the needle valve. a compression spring 16 disposed between the valve and a nut 17 screwed into the casing 1 of the burner.

As long as the valve 15 of the preliminary fuel eireu- lation pipe 12 is green, the fuel circulates freely in the burner casing between the supply pipe 11 and the supply channel 4, phis passes through the groove. peripheral 6 of the interior element 2, arrives in the preliminary airflow channel 5 and exits through the pipe 12. Under these conditions, the valve 9 is pushed by its spring 16 into its previous position (fig. 1), in which it closes the turbulence openings 7 and the final orifice 18 of the turbulence chamber 8.

To start the burner, valve 15 is closed and, as described above, pressure builds up on the larger diameter surface of the. valve 9 formed by part 9c.

The valve thus comes backwards by first opening the key opening final output 18, then when the head 91> has cleared the final orifice sufficiently to allow the mist to form normally, it opens the communication between the turbulence key orifices 7 and the fuel supply channel -1, position shown r1 la flm. 5. In the. posterior or open position. wrench tare the needle valve 9, the axial bore 10 serves as the return port of the swirl chamber 8.

The part more, rand diameter 9c of the valve 9 comprises an annular groove 19, which communicates by holes directed in the radial direction 20 with the bore 10 key to the valve 9. When the latter is in its open position. or later, the annular groove 19 communicates with a flow outlet pipe 21. via holes 23 drilled in the internal element 2 and an annular groove 24 formed in the casing 1 of the burner. When the valve 9 is in its closed or previous position (fig. 1), this communication is.

closed and, therefore, if there is any back pressure in the discharge pipe 21, that back pressure does not cause a drip flow through the anterior end of the axial bore 10, although this end always communicates with the final outlet port 18. The flow rate of the burner can be regulated by regulating the circulation in the flow pipe 21, for example by means of a valve 22, shown schematically.

It can be seen that the fuel supply pipe 11, the preliminary circulation pipe 12 and the flow pipe 21 are perpendicular to the casing of the burner and <read these pipes enter in the rear part. This arrangement is convenient when the burner is to be mounted in a position in which its tip penetrates a certain distance into a combustion chamber; in such a case, the front part of the burner must be able to pass through a hole made, for example, in the wall of the combustion chamber and must therefore be provided with a pipe junction.
