Fig. 7 is a side view, partially in section along the line VII-VII of FIG. 5, of part of a balance placed on the ruby supports.
Fig. 8 shows a view from below. of the drive motor for the drill and the suction pump, all incorporated in the base.
The apparatus shown comprises a base J. on which is mounted a support A for a pendulum 0 which must be balanced. Beside this support is placed a fixing and centering device composed of a body B serving. support to the balance in order to operate the milling and a device C intended to provide the pressure to maintain the balance 0 in a determined position, that of the milling.
The support A comprises a support rod 2, which, over part of its length, is provided with a thread 3, while it can be slid over another part of its length in a support sleeve 4 comprising a knurled screw 6a to keep said rod fixed. For the axial displacement of the support rod, a knurled nut 5 is used. To keep the support direction fixed, a guide groove 6 is made in the rod 2 in which the tip of the guide engages. screw 6ca.
On the upper end of the support rod 2 is mounted a plate 7 having vertical edges 21, 21 '(fig. 2) which carry a pivotable axis 8 on which each is adjusted separately, using a screw. knurled 9, the two support arms 10 made integral in height, by urn rod 11. On the rod 11 and between the two suspension arms 10 and 10 'is inserted a spring 16 holding to separate said arms one on the other (fig. 3).
The height pivoting of the suspension arms 10, 10 'is limited by two stop screws 12 and 13 located on either side of the pivot axis 8. Between the position of the stop screw 13 and the axis pivot 8 is mounted a small rod 14 to which is hooked a spring 15. tending to pull down the rear part of the arms 10, 10 '. This res out 15 is attached to the bottom of the plate 7. This spring plays as soon as the ends of the arms 10, 10 'are free.
The pivot axis 8 of the arms 10, 10 'is mounted on bearings 17, 17' with ball bearings in order to give this pivoting all the desired precision and speed. The axis 8 can be moved in the axial direction. For this purpose, he is surrounded; in its rear part, a spring 18 pressing, on the one hand, against a stop 19 integral with the axis 8 and, on the other hand, on the shoulder of the bearing 17 '. In its front part, the pivot axis 8 is provided with a thread on which engages a nut 20 abutting against the bearing.
By turning this nut 20, with a knurled head, to the right, the axis is moved towards the nut 20 which remains fixed, being pressed on a shoulder of the beam 17. At the same time, the spring 18 is compressed. By turning nut 20 to the left. the spring 18 is released which relaxes, thus withdrawing the pivot axis 8. The ends of the arms 1.0, 10 'bear ruby sectors 22, 22' having ridges 23, 23 '(fig. 4 and 7 ) forming support knives. These rubies are held in such a way that the pivots 24, 24 'of a balance 0 can easily be placed so that the latter practically rest on the very small edges of the ruby sectors 22, 22'.
In the ends of the arms 10, 10 'and in the longitudinal direction, slots 25, 25' are formed; each resulting in a circular recess, to keep the longitudinal faces parallel when tightening the screws 26, 26 'for the purpose of tightening the two support rubies 22, 22'. The construction details can be seen in figs. 3, 4 and 7.
The balance can thus be placed on the device with or without a hairspring (27).
The balance 0 placed on the support device A is placed with its center on the axis of the rod 51 of the pressure device C and on that of the body B which is used at the time to maintain the balance, to the milling of the screw to lighten and evacuate the chips produced during milling. The device B is fixed to the base 1 with an emerging part and a part arranged inside the frame formed by the base 1. The hollow body 28 is held fixed by screws 29 and a large nut 30.
The upper end of the emerging part of the hollow body 28 is crowned by the part 31 which has a central opening reserved for the passage of the drill and mouths intended for the suction of the chips. The part 31 is screwed onto a telescope socket 32 which can slide into the hollow body. A rim of the telescopic sleeve 32 is supported on a stop 33 extended by a rod surrounded by a xessort 34 which rests on the hollow body 28.
This rod can move against the action of the spring 34 to actuate the comparator micrometer 35 during the milling and so that the clamping pressure appears as gently as possible. The drill 36 is driven by the shaft 37 on ball bearings 38, 38 '. This shaft is rotated by the pulley 39 driven by a belt by the motor 40 mounted to. inside the chassis.
The drill 36 rotates, inside the hollow body, in a bush 41 provided, at its end, with a bush 42 having a precision conical internal milling. This conical cutter serves to guide the balance screw which must be lightened. The balance thus retained is prevented from rotating when at the same time pressure is exerted on the opposite screw of the balance so that the lower screw 43 is blocked in the conical milling.
The pressure required for this blocking is exerted by means of the device C comprising a support 44 screwed onto the base and a rod 45 which can slide in this support and which is held by a nut 46. The height of a nut 46 can thus be adjusted. horizontal arm 47 which, in turn, can be moved against the action of a spring 48 by turning a knurled knob 49 abutting against the guide block. The position of this arm can further be fixed by tightening a screw 50, the tip of which engages in a longitudinal groove of the horizontal arm, with a view to preventing it from turning and to ensure that the finger 51 is always pointing straight. vertical direction.
This finger 51 is guided in the block 52 and is surrounded on its upper part by the spring 53 which is inserted between this block and the pressure button 54. To fix the balance 0 in order to mill a screw placed on the rubies 22, 22 ', on the end of the suspension arms 10, 10', the button 54 is lightly pressed, taking care to first bring the countersink screw of the balance 1 opposite the internal cone of the small cylinder 42. In this way the spring 15 of the support arms is stretched and relaxes as soon as the button 54 is released, returning the support arms 10, 10 'to their starting position.
By tightening the balance 0 as described, it is possible to mill with great precision and with perfect centering of the holes in the screw in order to lighten it in order to establish the balance. The return of the arms 10, 10 'to their initial position is essential to reestablish identical conditions in which the balance must be in order to control its balance. The heavy point is thus automatically located downwards, that is to say above the tip of the drill.
A semi-automatic device has thus been produced for balancing the screw balances. To do the work, the comparator 35, previously set to zero, indicates the advance of the drill in the material of the milling screw. It is therefore easy to assess by simply reading the comparator the quantity of material stripped and removed, which gives the balancing work of the balances a precision never before achieved. It would also be possible to calibrate the comparator, so that the volume of material can be evaluated directly.
However, as the balance is not determined only by the volume of material removed, but also by the distance of this volume from the center of the balance, this volume calibration does not have a great advantage over that of the length of the balance. progress of the drill. The perfect functioning of the device is also ensured by the permanent evacuation of the chips produced by the milling. The suction outlets 33 are under the action of a diaphragm pump 55 connected to the hollow body by the pipe 56, which pump is driven, by means of an eccentric 58, by the motor 40.
When rotating, the motor 40 ensures both the drive of the drill and the suction of the chips. Being mounted in the frame, it constantly transmits vibrations to the latter. This undesirable effect in other circumstances forms part of the present invention, since it releases the countersunk screw instantly from the drill and contributes to causing the arms 10, 10 'to return to their starting position.
To increase . vibration of the chassis, the transmission pulley 5 7 of the motor 40 can be placed in the eccentric position. This necessarily amplifies the vibrations of the whole.
For milling, a two-lip, flat-head drill is preferably used.
