On a alors:t -- to = to (ea séc.
Transmission train. The present invention relates to a transmission train comprising at least two rotary shafts, each of which is provided with a pulley.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention and some variants.
Figs. 1 and 2 are views, in profile and in plan, of an endless flexible member forming part of the transmission train, a detail of which is shown on a larger scale and in section in FIG. 3.
Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 are cuts to. larger scale than fig. 1 showing alternative construction of the flexible organ. Fig. 8 shows another variant in an elevational view.
The transmission train shown partially comprises at least two parallel rotary shafts such as the shaft 9 of FIG. 3 and an endless flexible member of complex construction shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. This. member comprises an endless ribbon 2 to which are fixed rigid bars 3 and 4 arranged transversely to this ribbon and side by side over the entire length of the outer and inner faces respectively.
These bars have the effect of stiffening the tape 2 transversely and of resisting the compressive forces exerted on them when the tape is stretched from one to the other of the two rotary shafts. Each of these shafts carries a pulley formed of two halves which are two discs 7a and 7b whose facing faces 5 and 5 'are frustoconical surfaces of revolution whose genera trices are symmetrically inclined with respect to a plane normal to the axis of revolution which coincides with that of the corresponding shaft 9.
Each of the shafts 9 is provided with two keys 6 and 6 'on which the discs 7a and 7b are mounted so that they are. , integral 'for rotation and that at least one of these discs can slide on its shaft parallel to the axis; the discs 7a and 7b therefore form the equivalent of a trapezoidal groove pulley of which only the sides of the groove are operative.
That of the two discs which can slide on its key is subjected, during operation, to the action of a force tending to bring it closer to the other disc, according to a known device not shown or is controlled by a mechanism allowing that the two discs of one pulley are brought together and those of the other pulley are moved away by the same amount and simultaneously.
The bars 3 of the outer face and 4 of the inner face are made of a fibrous material impregnated with a solid resinous material, such as a fabric or cardboard impregnated with a synthetic resin; this fibrous material is exposed at their ends intended to come into contact with the surfaces 5 and 5 '. The tape 2 1Lli itself is made of a fabric of textile fibers, artificial such as nylon, or natural.
The bars 3 and 4 form pairs in each of which the bar 3 and the bar 4 are arranged opposite one another and are. strongly assembled by means of rivets 8 passing through holes made through them and of the tape 2 which is compressed between these bars., and which is subjected, during riveting, to a longitudinal traction.
We see in fig. 3 that the profile of the bars 3 and 4 projected on a plane hanging from the longitudinal axis of the strip 2 has for both a trapezoidal shape such as the contact surfaces with the sur faces 5 and 5 ' are. limited to narrow areas located in the vicinity of the strip 2 where they extend only over a small fraction of the radial dimension of the pair.
For bars 3, this result would also be obtained if the base of the trapezoid opposite to that which is adjacent to the tape was equal to the latter or smaller., While polishing the bars 4, it is necessary that the base of the trapezoid adja cente to the ribbon is heavier than the opposite base.
But the bars can also be shaped so that the contact zone is entirely on the ends of the internal bars 4 or on those of the external bars 3, any cry giving the faces of the bars which are adjacent to the tape a length exceeding the length. width of the tape at least a fraction of a millimeter, so that the material of this tape does not touch the surfaces 5 and 5 '.
In fig. 1, 2 and 3: it has been assumed that the bars 3 touch each other along the rectilinear strands of the flexible member and have a rectangular cross section, while that of the bars 4 has the shape of a trapezoid whose base applied against the tape has the same width as the bars 3, and whose opposite base is narrower, to allow a curvature of the flexible member following a polygonal arc as it passes between the frustoconical surfaces 5 and 5 ' .
In the variant of FIG. 4, the internal bars 4a allow this curvature while having a rectangular section thanks to the fact that they are separated from each other by a sufficient distance.
In fig. 5, the bars 3a and 4b have the same sections as the bars 3 and 4 but are, on both sides of the tape, placed <a. distance from each other, so that their faces adjacent to the tape are separated by an interval which is a small fraction of their width.
In fig. 6, the bars are arranged like those of FIG. 4, but their sides adja centes ati ribbon are cylindrically curved, the sides 10 of the bars 3b being con caves and the faces 11 of the bars 4c being convex, which forces the ribbon 2a to follow their curvature, the axis of which is located on the <the inner face of the tape, but which could also be located on the side of the.
external face of the endless organ. This construction ensures that the bars of each pair are hand held exactly parallel.
In fig. 7, the bars of the inner face 4d are assumed to be made of metal, so that they can be thinner than bars of fibrous material impregnated with a solid resinous material, while having the same strength.
In fig. 8, the bars of the two species 3c -and 4b have a trapezoidal section, so that the endless member can be curved in both directions, for example when a tensioner is on it. applied, comprising a roller acting against the external face, or a trapezoidal groove pulley cooperating with the ends of the bars 3.
\ Whatever the shapes of the bars in cross section and their arrangement: on the strip, the angle a formed with the axis of revolution of the generatrices of surfaces 5 and 5 'can be made at least as small as in: Transmission trains of the kind described, cried already known, where the bars of the endless organ are made of wood trimmed with leather at the ends. This will be explained with reference to lig. 3, as well as the resulting advantages.
An angle cp has been represented, the tan gente of which is approximately 0.20, assuming. that this value is equal to the coefficient of friction of the fabric bars impregnated with a synthetic resin in their contact with the metal of the discs 7a and 7b. We see that this angle is smaller than the acute angle which is between a generatrix of a frustoconical surface of these discs and a plane normal to the axis of revolution and which is equal to the angle designated by a .
We have done a aga to avoid the jamming of the bars between the disks 7ca and 7b, because such jamming would correspond to an abutement of the disc 7b against these bars when one wants to push it towards the left to vary the speed ratio of the two shafts such as 9. This arching would prevent the bars engaged on the pulley from sliding towards the key periphery thereof when the shafts are stationary.
The aforesaid generators could be cut, provided that at each point of their useful parts they do. with a plane normal to the axis an angle greater than the angle q-; whose tangent is equal to the coefficient of friction.
The frictional force of the bars against the discs has the maximum value of the product of tg. cp by a force N normal to the surfaces in contact and equal to the product of a radial force F1 by the cosecant of the angle a.
This force Pr, which is one of the increasing radial forces. from the entry point of the belt to the pulley at the exit point, is in fact decomposed into the force N and into a force parallel to the axis (not shown), equal to e "opposite to the force designated by F2 which represents the reaction of the disc 7a to the push of the bar to the left. This reaction is itself balanced by a return force of the disc 7b or by a lever not shown determining the position of this disc along its axis.
The forces have only been shown at one end of the bar while symmetrical forces act at the other end, so that the bar considered is compressed by a double force of F2 equal to 2 Fi etg. at.
We know. that the tensions t and to of the leading end and the driven end of a belt passing on a cylindrical pulley are related by the relation: t = to eka, where the number e. basis of natural logarithms, a. for expo sant the product of the coefficient of friction k = tg. 99 by the angle p on the arc of which the belt is in contact with the pulley.
In the case of pulleys with trapezoidal grooves or like that of FIG. 3, this logarithmic law that subsists but takes the form: t - t. gk a coséc. c @ -o To examine how the tangential driving force t - to varies as a function of. coefficient of friction tg. 99,
we can assume that we give a its limit value q7. We then have: t - to = to (ea sec. (P - 11,. And we notice that for values of k between 0.20 and 0.40, the secant of the corresponding angles 9p varies only slightly, from 1.01981 to 1.07704.
We thus obtain, for 7c = 0.4, t- to = 28.37 to, -et, for k = 0.20, t- < / I> to_ 23.38 to when doing f3 = n in both cases.
However, it is useless for the theoretical tangential driving force of the wooden bars to be greater than that of the bars 3 and 4 if they do not withstand the corresponding compression force 2 F2 or if their low resistance to buckling prevents them from being given the length that would allow the tape to be wide enough to withstand the tension t. The greater resistance to compression and buckling of fibrous material bars impregnated with solid synthetic resin therefore has the advantage of making practically achievable a theoretical dragging force of an order of magnitude which cannot be achieved. made with
wooden bars. This force of 23.38 t is still more than ten times greater than that which could be transmitted by flat belts mounted on cylindrical pulleys for which we admit t = 2 t.
The fact that the bars of the intended material can be made ten to twenty times longer than their smallest dimension. transversal allows.
in addition that the tapes are thin relative to their width, hence a negligible loss of power attributable to the stiffness of the belt. Another consequence is the technical advantage that the pulleys can be made small relative to the power which they have to transmit at a given speed, that is to say, be economical by their lightness and by a in less space than when the bars are made of wood.
In the application of the variant of FIG. 7, it is understood that it is the bars 3 which are in contact with the conical discs and not the metal bars which would be noisy. This variant can be reversed, the metal bars being on the outside.
Rivets 8 can be replaced by bolts with nuts. The tape 2 is preferably woven in its endless form, to avoid seaming.
The endless flexible member could only bear transverse bars on one side, by means of washers interposed between the other side of the strip and the heads of rivets or bolts.
