Description

Canoe Inflatable The present invention relates to an inflatable boat, for example a dinghy, a canoe or a similar canoe. This boat is characterized according to the invention in that it comprises several distinct buoyancy chambers and a valve inflation device common to all these chambers, and in that this device comprises orifices in number corresponding to that of the chambers. and each communicating with one of said chambers, and a single resilient valve element, cooperating with a domed valve seat and arranged so as to be able to simultaneously close all of said ports.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the inflatable boat which is the subject of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of said embodiment in the inflated state.

Fig. 2 is a section on 2-2 of FIG 1; and fig. 3 and 4 are axial sections on a larger scale of the valve device of this embodiment in the closed position and in the open position respectively.

The inflatable boat shown is a canoe and includes four separate float chambers, capable of being inflated and not communicating with each other. These chambers are respectively designated by the reference signs 1, 2, 3 and 4 and are arranged in pairs, the chambers of each pair being arranged one above the other. Bedrooms 1 and 2 constitute a pair of starboard bedrooms and bedrooms 3 and 4 constitute a pair of port bedrooms. Chambers 1 and 2 are connected to one another, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 2, because they are formed from a single piece of material, but sealing strips 5 prevent them from communicating with each other.

Similarly, chambers 3 and 4 are made from a single piece of material and are prevented from communicating with each other by further sealing strips 6. Each of chambers 1, 2, 3 and 4 has an inflation port which is connected by a flexible duct, for example by a rubber tube, to a common valve inflation device. The flexible conduits are shown at 7, 8, 9 and 10. The valve device shown in more detail in FIGS. 3 and 4 comprises a valve stem 11 and a domed valve seat formed in a valve body 13.

An annular valve element 14, of resilient material, is interposed between the valve stem 11 and the valve seat 12. The valve body 13 is grooved to receive a sheet of material 15 of the same type as that used to form. the buoyancy chambers and which forms a protective apron against splashing, as shown in FIG. 1. The apron 15 is reinforced where it engages the groove of the valve element by lower and upper reinforcing sheets 16.

The valve body 13 has four orifices 17, only two of which are shown in the sections of FIGS. 3 and 4. Each of these orifices communicates with one of the flexible pipes 7, 8, 9 and 10 and consequently with the one of the buoyancy chambers 1, 2, 3 and 4. The valve stem 11 is drilled axially as indicated at 18, in line with a central opening 19 made in the valve element 14.

The upper end of the bore 18 can be closed off by means of a rubber washer 20 held in position by a removable cap 21 screwed onto the valve stem 11. In order to prevent accidental loss of the cap 21 when the latter is separated from the valve stem, this cap is connected to said stem by means of a flexible clip 22.

The lower buoyancy chambers 2 and 4 are connected to each other by a sheet 23 made of a material similar to that constituting the buoyancy chambers and which forms the bottom of the canoe. This is provided with front 24 and rear 25 poles which extend to below the bottom of the canoe, in order to protect the latter when it is on land. The canoe is provided with a foam rubber seat 26 and a flexible backrest 27 and the buoyancy chambers 1 and 3 are provided with reinforcement bands 28 and 29 which are attached to them and which are intended to prevent the user from 'Damage these chambers by rubbing with a paddle, oar or the like.

Handling ropes 30 are attached to the front and rear of the canoe to help carry it when needed.

When it is desired to inflate the canoe, the removable cap 21 is removed from the valve device, as well as the sealing washer 20 placed on the valve stem, and this stem is then capable of receiving air. under pressure from any suitable source. The valve element 14 is not subjected to any pressure by the valve stem 11, as shown in fig. 4, it does not block the ports 17 of the crowned valve seat 12, and pressurized air can pass through the bore 18 of the valve stem 11 and through the port 19 of the valve member. valve to reach each of the four orifices 17 and, from there, to each of the buoyancy chambers 1, 2, 3 and 4 through the conduits 7, 8, 9 and 10.

When the canoe is sufficiently inflated, the valve stem 11 is rotated so as to exert a force on the valve member 14 and deform it by pressing it against the domed valve seat 12. The valve member 14 then takes the position in which it is shown in FIG. 3 and closes the orifices 17 of the valve body which communicate with the floatability chambers. The upper end of the valve stem 11 can then be sealed by replacing both the rubber washer 20 and the removable cap 21, and it can be seen that air cannot then normally escape. of any of the buoyancy chambers.

To deflate the canoe, perform the reverse operations. In other words, the valve stem 11 is rotated in the opposite direction to relieve the valve element 14 of the pressure that the valve stem exerted on it and, under the action of the air pressure. contained in buoyancy chambers 1, 2, 3 and 4 which communicate with the valve device through their respective flexible conduits 7, 8, 9 and 10, the valve element 14 is forced out of its seat 12 and air can escape, so that the canoe is deflated.

Because the described canoe has four non-communicating buoyancy chambers, even if one or two of these chambers are punctured or somehow lose for some unforeseen reason whatever, the air in any undamaged buoyancy chamber cannot escape through any of the other chambers or through several other buoyancy chambers, so the canoe cannot deflate completely unnecessarily.
