Description

Heat exchanger The subject of the invention is a heat exchanger which can be used, for example, to cool milk. This heat exchanger is characterized in that it comprises a hollow cylindrical body with a vertical axis open at its two ends, presenting uninterrupted inner and outer surfaces and formed by means of successive tubular turns, the arrangement being such that the wall of said body has in its thickness an uninterrupted passage for a heat exchange fluid, a closed casing in which this cylindrical body is arranged, a supply duct and an exhaust duct for a liquid intended to exchange heat with said fluid,

these conduits communicating respectively with the upper part and the lower part of the closed casing, and directing means arranged in the casing to obtain a regular flow of said liquid both on the inner surface and on the outer surface of the cylindrical body, from its upper part to its lower part.

The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment and a variant of the exchanger forming the subject of the present invention. Fig. 1 is a sectional view of this embodiment. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of part of this embodiment. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view, taken on 3-3 of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 is a plan view, taken from above, of the heat exchanger shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Fig. 5 is a side elevation, partly in section and cut away, of a variant of the heat exchanger of FIGS. 1 to 4. The heat exchanger shown in fig. 1 to 4 comprises a closed metal casing comprising a sheet body 7 'which has a conical lower end 72 fitted with an outlet duct 63 for the milk, this duct being controlled by a rotary plug 95.

The envelope comprises a removable cover 73 provided with a sealing washer 74. This rubber washer rests on the upper edge of the body 7 'of the envelope against which it is firmly held in position by spring hooks. 75 which are articulated to lugs 76 which the body 71 presents. The cover 73 comprises a domed, domed part 77 which is crossed by a duct 78 to which the milk supply duct 28 is connected. inner end of duct 78 carries a distributor member 79 which is provided with a filter 96 and from which the milk falls in the form of rain.

A hollow cylindrical body with a vertical axis open at its two ends and having uninterrupted inner and outer surfaces is suspended from the cover 73 by several rods 80. This body comprises several tubular turns 81 arranged coaxially one above the other. the other and each having the shape of a split circular ring. The two ends of each of these rings are engaged in housings arranged in a distributor member 82.

As can be seen in fig. 1, each of the housings on the right side of the distribution member being connected to a housing provided for the immediately upper ring and arranged on the left side of said member, by an inclined passage 83, except for the upper right housing which communicates with the The interior of a hollow boss 84 which protrudes outside the distributor body and the left lower housing which is similarly connected to a protruding hollow boss 85. Coolant is sent through a conduit 86. into the lower boss 85 and from there through the lower ring and through the other rings 81 to finally exit the conduit of the cylindrical body through a conduit 87 which communicates with the upper hollow boss 84.

The rods 80 which serve to suspend the cylindrical body are welded to the two upper circular rings 81. The conduits 86 and 87 pass through suitable holes made in the cover 73. A vacuum is hand held inside the casing 71 by means of a conduit 69 which passes through another hole made in the cover. The rings 81 are connected in pairs by rings 88 which constitute spacers. The interior space of the envelope 71 is thus divided into an exterior annular space 89 and a cylindrical interior space 90.

As can be seen in fig. 3, because of the projecting parts of the distributor member 82, the common axis of the split rings of the cylindrical body is disposed eccentrically inside the casing. The uninterrupted passage of the cylindrical body constitutes the evaporator of a refrigeration machine. Above the cylindrical body is placed a plate 91 on which falls the rain of milk flowing from the dispensing member 79, through the filter 96. This plate is provided with a conical bottom 92, convex towards the top and which joins a peripheral wall of the plate so as to form a circular gutter 93, with a V-shaped profile, which is pierced with several holes 98 formed above the top of the upper ring 81.

Thanks to this arrangement, part of the milk arriving through the conduit 78 flows over the outer surface of the cylindrical body in the annular space 89, while the rest flows over the inner surface of this body. The cooling surface used is thus maximum. The tray is provided with support legs 99 and can easily be moved away from the top of the cylindrical body, so that when this body is extracted from the casing when its cover 73 is lifted, its inner and outer surfaces can easily be removed. be cleaned, as well as the inner face of the envelope body 71.

A dial thermometer 100 is mounted at the bottom of the heat exchanger to measure the temperature of the cooled milk. This thermometer is arranged so that its temperature-sensitive element is located in the vicinity of the valve 95.

Fig. 5 represents a simplified variant of the heat exchanger which has just been described. In this variant, the hollow cylindrical body comprises a tube 101 in one piece, wound in a helix. The diameter of this tube is about 28.6 mm and its lower coil com municates with the supply duct 86, the diameter of which is of 12.7 mm. The return duct 87 is made in one piece with the upper turn of the tube 101. A head piece 102 is attached to this upper turn. This part is annular in shape and such that the milk flowing from the bottom of the tray 91 flows evenly along the inner and outer surfaces of the hollow cylindrical body.

The turns of this tube could be directly fixed to each other by soldering with tin. As shown, they are slightly spaced from one another by bands 103, wound in a helix and soldered with tin to the adjacent turns of the unitary assembly formed by the tube 101. Apart from the differences that just mentioned, this heat exchanger is similar to that described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4.

In a variant not shown, the feed pipe 28 could be connected at its upper end to a funnel into which the milk is poured. This funnel may be provided with an adjustable valve, so that the milk flows to the interior of the distributing member 79 at the desired flow rate.
