Ce genre de changement de vitesse, utilisé plus spécialement sur les cycles, est d'un prix de revient beaucoup moins élevé que celui d'un changement de vitesse à pignons, logé dans le moyeu de la roue arrière du cycle. Les changements de vitesse du type dérailleur connus présentent toutefois certains inconvé nients, dont les principaux sont a) que la chaîne Galle enveloppe le pignon sur un angle d'autant plus petit que le diamètre de ce pignon est petit. Il s'ensuit que la chaîne Galle engrène avec quelques dents seulement de l'engrenage du plus petit dia mètre, ce qui provoque une usure préma turée du profil des dents de cet engrenage;
The present invention relates to a gear change of the derailleur type comprising a guide for the Galle chain, movable with respect to a set of chain gears rigidly attached to the chain. a trained organ.
This type of gear change, used more especially on cycles, is much cheaper than that of a gear change with pinions, housed in the hub of the rear wheel of the cycle. Known derailleur type speed changes, however, have certain drawbacks, the main ones of which are a) that the Galle chain envelops the pinion at an angle which is smaller the smaller the diameter of this pinion. It follows that the Galle chain meshes with only a few teeth of the gear of the smallest diameter, which causes premature wear of the profile of the teeth of this gear;
b) that the chain is neither brought nor guided in the plane of each of the gears, which causes premature wear of the links of the chain and of the side faces of the teeth of the pinions.
The gear change, object of the present invention, tends to eliminate these drawbacks by the fact that it comprises a base part provided with fasteners allowing it to be secured to one of the arms of the rear fork. 'a cycle, by the fact that the guide for the chain is carried by a support connected to this base part by a deformable parallelogram,
in that this guide for the chain simultaneously constitutes a tensioning device and has two rotary guide rollers carried by the ends of a balance subjected to the action of a spring and pivoted along an axis parallel to the axes of the rollers. guides, and by the fact - that it also comprises an adjustment device making it possible to make the pivot axis of the balance wheel parallel to the axis of rotation of the chain gear set.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the gear change; object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view.
Fig. 2 is a - partial sectional view along the line 11-11 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial sectional view taken along the line 1I1-111 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view from below: FIG. 5 is a partial sectional view taken along the line V-V of FIG. 4.
According to the attached drawing, the speed change comprises a set of chain gears 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e rigidly fixed to the hub 2 of the rear wheel (not shown) of a cycle. This hub 2 is mounted on an axis A fixed by means of wing nuts 3 on the rear fork of the frame 4, only a part of which is shown in the drawing.
On the lower tube of this fork is fixed a base part 5 by means of fasteners 6. This part 5 has a conical bearing 7 extended by a threaded rod 8. A collar 9, provided with a conical bore, is tightened using a nut 10 on this conical bearing 7.
The collar 9 is connected by two parallel arms 11, 12 to a support 13. For this purpose, the collar 9 and the support 13 are each provided with two parallel axes 14, 15 on which the ends of the two arms 11 are articulated and 12_ The articulation axes 14 and 15 are parallel to the axis a of the conical bearing surface 7.
Thus, the two arms 11 and 12 form, with the collar 9 and the support 13, a deformable parallelogram. The support 13 also carries an axis 16 (FIG. 5) whose projection on the plane passing through the articulation axes 14 and 15 is perpendicular to these axes.
A tensioning and guiding device for the Galle chain 17 oscillates on this axis 16. This positive device comprises two lateral guide plates 18 and 18a rigidly connected to each other by spacers 19 (fig. 3) simultaneously constituting axes on which rotate freely two guide rollers 20. The guide plate 18 is rigidly fixed to a bush 21 rotating freely on the axis 16 and situated, on the right-hand side connecting the two axes 19, at an equal distance from these axes 19.
A spring 22, arranged coaxially with the axis 16 inside a protective casing 23 integral with the support 13, tends to oscillate the balance 18 in the direction of the arrow f, in order to maintain the chain 17 still tense. One of the ends of this spring is engaged in one or the other of the notches 21a distributed regularly along the periphery of this sleeve.
The collar 9 also carries two adjustable stops 24 and 25 limiting the amplitude of the displacement of the arms 11 and 12 and therefore of the displacement of the support 13. These stops therefore define the two extreme positions of the guide for the chain.
The arm 11 carries an auxiliary arm 26 provided with a device 33 for fixing the core 27 of a Bowden cable, the sheath 28 of which bears on a tab 29 integral with the base part 5. The other end of the The core 27 of the Bowden cable is attached to a lever 30, while the sheath 28 bears on a tab 31, rigidly fixed to the frame 4 of the cycle. A return spring 32 tends to cause the arms 11 and 12 to pivot on their articulation axes 14 and to keep the arm 11 applied to the stop 24.
One of the ends of this spring 32 is engaged in one or the other of the notches 33 made in the periphery of a cup 34 of the collar 9.
The operation of the gear change described is similar to that of the gear changes of the derailleur type known and in use for many years, more particularly on bicycles. However, the derailleur described has various interesting features.
Indeed, thanks to the fact that the support 13 is carried by a deformable parallelogram, the pivot axis 16 of the balance 18, 18a performs a translational movement along its axis b. However, by adjusting the angular position of the collar 9 on the conical part 7 of the base part 5, it is always possible to ensure that the axis b is parallel to the axis of rotation c of the pinions 1a to 1e. whatever the angle of inclination i of the fork arm with respect to the plane p of the rear wheel.
Consequently, when the user actuates the net ma 30, he causes the movement of the chain guide parallel to itself and the guide rollers 20 come to be placed successively in the planes of rotation of each of the sprockets la to le. . Thus, the Galle chain 17 is always located in the plane of rotation of the pinion with which it cooperates, so that the meshing of the links of this chain on the teeth of the pinions 1a to 1c is always carried out correctly and without friction on the lateral sides of the teeth of these pinions. It follows that the wear of the chain and of the sprocket teeth is not greater than in the case of a Galle chain cooperating with a single chain sprocket.
The base part 5 being fixed on one of the arms of the rear fork and its position along this arm being able to be chosen at will, it is therefore always possible to fix this part at a distance h from the axis c , sufficient to allow correct operation of the tensioning device.
Thanks to the fact that the two guide rollers 20 are carried by the ends of a balance, one obtains - as it is easy to realize by examining FIG. 1 of the drawing a wrapping of the pinion by the chain of at least 180 () and which is all the larger as the diameter of this pinion is small. This peculiarity of the derailleur described is very important, because it ensures the meshing of the chain with a sufficient number of teeth to prevent any premature wear of the profile of the teeth of the pinions of small diameters.
The practical tests carried out with a positive derailleur as described have made it possible to observe that the operation of this derailleur is indeed smooth, the passage of the chain from one sprocket to the other being carried out smoothly and that it does not never misfires and, in addition, the wear of the chain and small diameter sprockets is much lower than when using derailleurs of known types.
In addition, these tests have shown that the derailer described can be mounted on all types of bicycles existing on the market, and that it is always possible to fix the angular position of the collar 9, so that the axis b of pivoting of the balance is parallel to the axis c of rotation of the pinions 1a to the for all the positions that the support 13 may occupy.
In a variant, the relative positions of the articulation axes with respect to the axis a can be provided so that the support 13 is closer to the axis A when the chain 17 is engaged with the pinion 1 e than when this chain meshes with the pinion 1a. This arrangement has the advantage that the guide for the chain is always located approximately at the same distance from the periphery of the pinion with which the chain cooperates.
Tests carried out with a derailleur as described and a set of six sprockets have given complete satisfaction.
During these tests, it was observed that the guide rollers 20 only undergo minimal e and regular wear and that their periphery remains clean and intact. Indeed, generally the peripheral edge of these rollers has, after a certain time of use, indentations formed by the rollers of the Galle chain. However, it has been observed that these imprints are detrimental to the proper functioning of the gear change.
During the prolonged practical tests which were carried out, no wear of parts 18 and 18a could be noted, which means that the guide for the chain is indeed always located in the plane of rotation of the pinion with which the chain cooperates. Gall.
The spring 32 always keeps the core 27 of the Bowden cable taut, so that the position of the guide for the chain is always well defined. The thrust that this spring needs.
The exertion is moreover weak compared to that which must exert this spring in the known derailleurs, because the guide for the chain being always located in the plane of rotation of the pinion with which it cooperates, the chain exerts no thrust tending to move laterally its guide. The tension of this spring 32 can be adjusted at will by engaging its end in one or the other of the notches 33 made in the cup 34 of the collar 9.
If the Bowdén cable breaks for a fortuitous cause, it suffices to release the spring 32 to allow the derailleur to operate by manual actuation of the support 13. This particularity is very important, because in all known derailleurs when the Bowden cable breaks, the chain guide automatically moves to the high speed or low speed position and it is no longer possible to use intermediate gears.
The tension of the spring 22 of the chain tensioning device 17 can also be adjusted by engaging the end of this spring in one or the other of the notches 21a made in the periphery of the sleeve 21.
Another advantage of the derailleur described is due to the fact that the tensioning device being symmetrical and balanced, the collisions of the road cannot cause whipping of the tensioning members. It follows that the risk of the chain falling, following collisions with the road, is practically zero.
