<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Watch strap, open type The main patent relates to a watch strap, open type, each half of which is made up of at least three main elements, two of these elements constituting a clamp intended to be clamped on one of the bars of the watch case, while the third element, articulated to said clip, is shaped in the shape of the wrist and partially surrounds one half of it, around which it is held in the closed position by an elastic member whose elasticity makes it possible to separate said third elements sufficiently to put on or remove the bracelet, said clamp pivoting freely around the axis of the bar and a means, intended to rest on the watch case,
being provided to make it possible to adjust the extreme angular position taken by the clamp when said third elements are separated from one another, so as to more or less close the bracelet and thus to adapt it to the size of the wrist.
The present invention relates to a bracelet of the aforementioned type, which is characterized by adjustable stop means limiting the angular displacement of said third element in the direction of its closure. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. The single figure shows a partial longitudinal section of this embodiment.
The bracelet shown in the drawing consists of two identical halves each comprising, on the one hand, two parts 2 and 3 constituting the jaws of a clamp intended to be clamped around the bar 1 of a watch and, on the other hand , an articulated element 4, shaped in the shape of the user's wrist and pivoting around a rod 5 fixed to the part 2. This element 4 is held around the wrist by a spring 6, the ends of which are supported respectively on a stud 7 secured to part 2 and on a stud 8 secured to element 4.
The clamp 2, 3 is intended to be tightened around the bar 1 by the action of a screw 9, the head of which rests against the underside of the part 3. The shank of the screw 9 is threaded only 'at its upper end and screws into part 2, while the unthreaded part freely passes through a bore 10 of part 3. Between parts 2 and 3 of the clamp is interposed an adjustment member 11. This member has a flat part 11a provided with a notch 12 for the passage of the screw 9, and a raised part 11b intended to come into contact with the watch case 13. The upper face of the part 11a has a corrugated profile, comprising parallel grooves equidistant alternating with protrusions.
The Class 94 face
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
lower part 2, in contact with part 1 la, has a profile of corresponding shape.
The lower part 3 of the clamp has a recess 14 in which the bar 1 is partially housed, so that the bracelet does not run the risk of separating from the watch, even if the screw 9 is poorly tightened.
According to a variant, there could be more than one screw 9 to tighten the clamp 2, 3. On the other hand, this or these screw or screws 9 could be threaded over the entire length of their shank, it being understood that they pass through freely the bore 10 of the part 3 and the notch 12 of the adjustment member 11.
The part 3 does not extend much further than the bar 1 in the direction of the watch case 13, so that it never touches said case. The clamp 2, 3, mounted on the bar 1 between the horns 15 of the watch case 13, can therefore pivot freely around the axis of the bar 1. The rotation of the clamp 2, 3 and, consequently, that of the entire corresponding bracelet half, is limited in the counterclockwise direction of the figure by the fact that part 11b of the adjusting member 11 abuts against the box 13.
This extreme position, shown in the drawing, is normally taken by the bracelet lc, -sque the latter is attached to the wrist, which tends to separate the elements 4 from each other and, consequently, to tilt the clamp 2 , 3 via the springs 6.
To roughly adapt the bracelet to the size of the wrist, it suffices to loosen the screw or screws 9 until it is possible to move the adjustment member 11 relative to the part 2. By moving the member 11 of a notch to the left of the figure, that is to say in the direction of the box 13, an angular displacement of the clamp is caused around the axis of the bar 1.
Indeed, in the position shown in the drawing, the part llb of the member 11 is in contact with the box 13 and therefore cannot move to the left, but if the clamp rotates by a certain angle in the clockwise direction. , part 11b moves away from box 13 and can be moved to the left. This movement of the clamp has the effect of closing the bracelet at the corresponding angle, by bringing the two elements 4 closer together. A movement of two or three notches will close the bracelet even more. Once the correct adjustment position has been found, tighten the screw (s) 9.
According to the improvement which is the subject of the present patent, adjustable stop means are provided limiting the angular displacement of the articulated element 4 in the direction of its closure. In the embodiment shown, these means comprise a part 16 pivoting on the rod 5 and an adjusting screw 17 screwed into the part 16. The slotted control end of the screw 17 is located in the vicinity of the stud. 7, while its opposite end rests against the inner face of the articulated element 4.
Under the action of the spring 6, the arm 4 tends to rotate clockwise around the rod 5, so that, by means of the screw 17, it urges the part 16 in the same direction. a stop surface 18 which is thus brought into contact with the stud 7 integral with the part 2, which limits the movement of the element 4 in the clockwise direction, that is to say in the direction of its closure.
When the coarse adjustment described above has been carried out, it suffices to turn the screw 17 in one direction or the other to obtain a fine adjustment of the position of the arm 4 with respect to the clamp 2, 3. If the screw 17 reaches the end of its travel before the desired adjustment has been obtained, the member 11 is moved one notch in the desired direction relative to the part 2, and the adjustment is completed by means of the screw 17.
The arrangement described and shown offers, among other things, the advantage of allowing the user himself to make a fine adjustment of the bracelet, so as to adapt it exactly to the size of his wrist.
