Description

Apparatus for infusing liquids into a body
For the infusion of liquids, such as physiological solutions, in a living body, an apparatus is generally used consisting of a glass bottle containing the liquid, from which the latter flows through a flexible pipe to a counting device. drops then, from there, also by a flexible tube, to the injection organ (needle). It has been proposed to replace the glass bottle with a flexible plastic container (therefore unbreakable) and to provide a separate device allowing this container to be pierced and its contents to be withdrawn, this device also being at least partly made of one material. flexible plastic. A dropper also made of a flexible plastic material can be interposed between the withdrawal device and the injection member.

The flexible plastic material used for the various parts of the apparatus is preferably polyethylene.

The advantage of such equipment is that it is unbreakable and, therefore, can be shipped great distances between its place of manufacture and that of use without requiring special precautions. However, this apparatus requires a hearth mounted at the time of its use, which always risks harming the perfect sterility of its contents and its internal parts.

The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback. It relates to an apparatus for the infusion of liquids into a body, comprising a reservoir for the liquid to be infused, a conduit for withdrawing the liquid from the reservoir and bringing it to a member for injecting the liquid into the body.

This apparatus is characterized in that the reservoir and the duct are integral with one another and at least partly made of a flexible material, in that a shutter preventing the flow of liquid is arranged in a flexible part of said conduit and in that said shutter is capable of being broken to give passage to the liquid.

Thus, the reservoir and the conduit to the injection member and where appropriate including this member, form a whole whose parts are integral with one another and, to use this whole, it is not necessary exposing the contents or the interior to external contact since the release of the flow of the liquid is effected by breaking the shutter from the exterior of the apparatus. The asepsis of the infusion is therefore ensured without requiring special precautions on the part of the operator; the apparatus is practically unbreakable, the shutter alone needing to be protected against unintentional breakage.

The appended drawing shows schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention and a variant of the shutter.

Fig. 1 is a section of the apparatus; and
fig. 2 is a detail view showing the variant of the shutter.

With reference to FIG. 1: a flexible plastic container 1 contains liquid 2 to be infused, for example physiological sodium chloride solution. I1 has a clip 3 allowing it to be suspended by one of its ends. n is connected, at its other end, to a tube 4 made of the same material as it.

This tube 4 and the container 1 are welded at 5 to one another.

The tube 4, which forms a part of the duct intended to withdraw the liquid to be infused from the reservoir 1 and to bring it to the injection member, has been manufactured with a dropper device 6 which, itself, is fixed. at one end of a tube 7. An injection member (not shown), which may be a needle, is mounted at the other end of the tube 7, either permanently or only when using the 'equipment. A filter material 8 is in this dropper device 6 near the tube 7. The dropper device 6 and the tube 7 are made of the same flexible plastic material as the receptacle 1 and the tube 4; all these organs which are either manufactured or welded to each other form an unbreakable whole.

A shutter is housed partly in the tube 4 and partly in the dropper device 6. This shutter is made of glass; it consists of a tube 9 in one piece with a ball 10. The tube 9 is forced into the tube 4; it is open at one of its ends and closed at its other end by the ball 10; it has a narrowing of its channel at its end closed by the ball 10. A weakening of the glass is provided at the junction of the tube 9 and the ball 10 so that, by a bending force, the shutter is breaks into two parts, one being the tube 9, the other the ball 10, the closed end of the tube being thereby open. The shutter is therefore completely enclosed in the conduit bringing the liquid 2 from the reservoir 1 to the injection member, it is therefore isolated from the outside.

It can also be broken from the outside since it is located in a flexible part of said duct. Once the shutter is broken, the tube 9 gives passage to the liquid to be infused by making the latter flow drop by drop through its narrowed end.

The assembly consisting of the container 1, the liquid 2 contained therein, the tube 4, the drip device 6 and the tube 7 with, where appropriate, the injection member, forms an unbreakable whole; this can be folded around the container 1 for its packaging and its transfer. Only the shutter should be protected against breakage.

This set, the contents and internal parts of which are sterile, does not need to be touched with sterile hands or instruments for its use. Once the container 1 is suspended by its fastener 3, the shutter is broken and the liquid to be infused flows through the tube 9 drip into the device 6 then, from there, through the material 8 and the tube 7 towards the injection organ. The infusion of the liquid is carried out as with the apparatus already known.

The shutter instead of being made of glass can be of another easily breakable material.

Its part constituted by the ball 10 can have a shape other than that of a ball, for example that of a disc.

In particular, the shutter can advantageously be as shown in FIG. 2. I1 consists of a glass tube 1 1 open at its end forced into the tube 4 of flexible plastic material and closed at its end 12. The flexural strength of this tube is weakened by a line of file 13 approximately to halfway between its ends. The tube is therefore easily broken at the location of this line by a bending exerted on it. The part of the tube remaining attached to the tube 4 then forms a dropper.
