Muffler silencer The present invention relates to a silencer muffler, for internal combustion engines and explosion devices such as those using compressed air.
According to the invention, this silent muffler is characterized: by a hollow body established in two juxtaposed halves. fixed to one another along a longitudinal median plane passing through two tubes between which the hollow body forms a damping chamber serving as a housing for a bladed wheel fixed on an axis,
journalled in the central lateral parts: of this damping chamber, the orifices:
inlet and outlet of the last chainmail, with which the said pipes communicate, located in a part of the body of the muffler which is at least partially outside a horizontal plane passing through the axis of said wheel to fins.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section thereof, and FIG. 2 is a cross section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
The silencer muffler shown is provided with an inlet pipe a and an outlet pipe b. It is formed by a hollow body established in:
two symmetrical halves juxta posed fixed to each other by means of bolts following - a longitudinal plane passing through these tubes in addition to which the hollow body forms a chamber of 'damping c serving as a housing for a paddle wheel d fixed on a journal pin in the central parts
laterals of this damping chamber. The inlet and outlet openings of the damping chamber c are at least partially below the horizontal plane passing through the axis of the wheel d. The impeller d has two. disc-shaped side flanges.
The inlet tubing has a range of thin strips: of stainless steel, the strips fixed by. layered layers.
on the inside face of the pipe and this by their edge closest to the engine, so that they can be pressed against the face of the pipe at the time of the overpressure due to the explosion. These lamellae are intended to dampen the vibration and prevent its transmission to the outside of the pipe.
In the operating state, the exhaust gases from the engine are projected against: the fins: of the wheel d and cause the latter to rotate. Due to its rotation, this wheel does not prevent the evacuation of exhaust gases and smoke. On the contrary, thanks to its position, to the shape of its fins and to the speed of rotation acquired as a result of the pressure of the explosion gases, it promotes the evacuation of these gases.
The recess of the airfoils on their face struck by the projection of the gases gives better damping of the noise and a greater speed of rotation of the wheel. The recess of the other face of the fins is intended to produce a better suction of the burnt gases, between two explosions.
This causes the exhaust pipe and even the cylinder to drain more completely, thus setting up more favorable conditions for the next explosion.
The damping chamber, as well as the part of the pipe following it, could also be lined with lamellae internally. of stainless steel as described above for the inlet tubing a.
The muffler described above will not only have the advantage of significantly reducing the noise of the explosion, but also much less of reducing the power of the engine, compared to the pots. exhaust known so far,:
with obstruction device and narrow exit, which absorb up to 20% of the engine power.
Especially for large displacement engines, several damping chambers can be provided in series, each with a paddle wheel, the second wheel preferably rotating in the opposite direction to that of the first in order to better follow the direction. taken by the exhaust gases.
The blades or vanes of the .wheel may be covered with an anti-resonant and incombustible layer, to avoid as far as possible. Any transmission of noise.
