Description

Electrical connection device In various devices or machines, electrical conductors superimposed and insulated from each other by insulating parts are used, between which metal spacers are generally available. These metal spacers are normally provided to provide the assembly with a certain mechanical rigidity and also to achieve savings in insulating material.

The different conductors form capacitances which can be the cause of disturbances in circuits using conductors.

It is well known, for example, that the existing capacitances between the contact blades, used in switching devices, such as switches, relays, multi-selector with crossbars, rotary switches, keys, etc., to which various lines are connected transmission, are unequal and that this dice balance is a cause of crosstalk. One arrangement often used to reduce this crosstalk consists in bringing the metal spacers used in these cells to ground potential.

The electrical connection device for setting a common potential of metal spacers of a battery which further comprises contact blades and insulating spacers, according to the invention, is characterized in that it comprises a element suitable for being inserted into said battery by openings passing therethrough, said element being electrically conductive and mechanically elastic, in order to be in electrical contact with the walls of said metal spacers.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the device forming the subject of the invention.

Fig. 15 is a sectional view of the elastic contact element, in the stack, combined with a pin.

Figs. 16 and 17 are elevation and plan views respectively of another embodiment of the elastic contact element associated with a pin.

Fig. 18 is a plan view showing the device of FIGS. 16 and 17 in position in the stack.

Fig. 19 is a plan view of a variant of the elastic contact element.

   - Fig. 20 is an elevational view of another variant of the elastic contact element. Fig. 21 is a partial sectional view of another embodiment in which the elastic contact element is constituted by a coil spring.

There is shown in section, in FIG. 1, a cell comprising several contact blades c, arranged between insulating spacers b, metal spacers a being interposed to give this stack a certain mechanical rigidity. When one or more of the blades c are brought to an electric potential, the capacities existing between these different blades are a source of disturbance for the circuits. In order to appreciably reduce these capacities, it suffices, according to a known method, to bring the metal spacers a to a common potential, the ground potential for example.

The battery shown in Figs. 2 and 3 consists of a number of contact blades 1, interposed between insulating spacers 2 on either side of which are arranged metal spacers 3. The stack thus formed is clamped between two metal plates 4 and 5 by screws 6, 7, screwed into. the lower plate 5. The stack has been shown only partially; in particular, the contact blades have been cut, their entire representation not being necessary for understanding.

The cell is crossed by openings 8 and 9 in which is inserted an element 10, elastic and electrically conductive.

The metal spacers 3 fulfill several roles. They ensure, first of all, the proper spacing of the contact blades while allowing the achievement of savings in more expensive insulating material. They give the whole a suitable rigidity. Finally, electrically connected to a common electric potential, the ground potential, for example, they play the role of screens providing an appreciable reduction in the capacities existing between the contact blades.

The grounding of the metal spacers is ensured by the elastic contact element 10. In a first embodiment shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the element 10 is in the form of a metal tube comprising a wide longitudinal slot 11. The length of this elastic element is substantially equal to the height of the stack and its section is greater than that of the openings 8 and 9.

When the elastic element 10 is introduced into one of the openings 8 or 9, the two branches of the U of this element are closed by exerting through its edges 12 and 13 the edges of the slot 11, a significant force against the walls 14 of the metal spacers. In addition, by the sliding exerted during the introduction of the elastic element 10, the edges 12 and 13 bite slightly, but sufficiently, the walls of the metal spacers 3 thus ensuring excellent electrical contact protected from oxidation. or other possible alterations.

On the other hand, the slight misalignments of the superimposed openings 8 are compensated for by the elasticity of the contact element 10, the edges of which take on a slightly wavy shape as can be seen in FIGS. 3 and 7. In order not to hamper this elastic relaxation of the element 10, the openings 8, 9 are given insulating spacers 2, a clearance as shown in FIGS. 6 and 8.

The elastic element can be electrically connected to ground by any suitable means. However, the upper metal plate 4 of the stack of contact springs is electrically connected to the lower plate 5 by the cap screws 6 and 7, the plate 5 itself being at ground potential through the assembly.

The metal spacers 3 are connected to ground independently of each other in such a way that if, for any accidental reason, imperfect contact exists between one of them and the elastic element 10, this defect does not influence not on other contacts.

It will be noted that a single elastic contact element 10 is sufficient to ensure the grounding of all the metal spacers of the same battery. However, more than one element 10 can be provided per cell, which practically eliminates any risk of poor contact. As can be seen in fig. 2, two elements 10 are provided for which the two openings 8 and 9 provided for the passage of the guide pins used during assembly have been used. The elastic contact elements 10 can be made according to various profiles. In fig. 9 to 12, two of these possible variants have been shown.

In fig. 9 and 11, the two elastic contact elements 16 and 17 respectively have an omega-shaped profile and an S-shaped profile. In FIGS. 10 and 12, the deformation that these elements undergo when they are inserted into one of the openings 8 and 9 has been shown.

Their edges 18, 19, 20 and 21 ensure excellent contact with the metal spacers 3 and the metal plates 4 and 5.

In order to give the elastic contact elements greater independence of deformation at the various points of contact, transverse slots 22 can be provided for these elements 10, 16 and 17 determining the melles 23, as shown in FIG. 13. The slots are arranged at intermediate levels between the metal spacers 3. In this way, the contacts between the lamellae 23 and the walls of the metal spacers 3 are made by deformation of the lamellae. This reduces the importance of notable alignment defects of the spacers.

To force the elastic element 10, 16 or 17 into contact with the spacers 3, it is possible to provide, as shown in section in FIG. 15, a pin 15, inserted inside the element after it has been put in place.

There is shown, in FIGS. 16 and 17, another embodiment of the device. The elastic contact element 24 is constituted by a cross of thin elastic metal, the arms 25 of which are bent so as to be parallel to each other. The circumscribed circle, not sant by the edges 26 and 27, has a diameter equal to that of the openings 8 and 9. Between the arms 25 is placed a pin 28 intended to force the edges 26 and 27 into electrical contact with the metal spacers.

The arms 25 can be flat as provided in the example of FIGS. 16, 17 and 18 or curved as shown in plan in FIG. 19. In this last example, the sharp edges 26 'and 27' of the arms 25 'are thus given a better contact position. According to another variant shown in FIG. 20, the arms 30 of the elastic contact element 29 may be corrugated instead of being rectilinear, the outer projections 31 of the corrugations being intended to make contact with the metal spacers 3. A pin 32, of suitable section, placed at the inside of the arms 30, serves as a fulcrum for the internal projections 33.

According to another embodiment shown in FIG 21, the elastic contact element 34 has the form of a helical spring, the outside diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the openings 8 and 9. This element can be introduced into the screw openings. It is also possible to design a special tool which momentarily reduces the diameter of the spring, for example by elongation or by tor sion. The spring 34 is thus introduced effortlessly; released, it tends to return to its initial diameter while ensuring effective contact with the metal spacers 3. This device also makes it possible to neglect notable defects in the alignment of the openings 8 and 9.

In the various examples described above, the openings 8 and 9 provided for the passage of the guide pins used during assembly were used for the positioning of the elastic contact element. However, it is possible to use other openings provided for the passage of the assembly screws 6, 7; the length of the elastic contact element is, in this case, reduced by the thickness of the lower plate 5. In this case, the assembly screws 6, 7 can fulfill the role of the pins 15.
