  Winding machine
The present invention relates to a winding machine, intended to engage at least one wire advancing continuously and to wind it on at least one core to form a reel, this machine comprising a rotating spindle arranged to rotate the core.

In the description which follows as well as in the claims, the expression yarn a will be used in a general sense to denote any yarn, textile or other material, and the expression coil will denote the product of the winding, whatever its shape. .

In the manufacture of yarn, and more particularly of synthetic yarn, the spinning machine produces a yarn which continuously advances at high speed.

One of the problems with making synthetic yarn is to grab that moving yarn, tie it to the spindle of the winding machine, and turn on the winding machine to wind it. at the same speed as the spinning machine moves it forward, all while the thread is moving continuously. All this should be done without allowing slack in the yarn or excessive buildup of yarn between the spindle of the winding machine and the spindle of the spinning machine and without breaking the moving yarn.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.

The machine shown is a winding machine adapted to wind a continuously advancing yarn and to use the tension in the moving yarn to control the speed of the spindle to be wound. The spindle to be wound up is provided with means for automatically attaching the wire which advances towards this spindle when said spindle reaches a given speed of rotation in order to start there the winding cycle. The means for automatically attaching the wire to the spindle comprise, as will be seen later, an end piece fixed to the end of the winding spindle and provided with a finger which protrudes into the path of the wire through the effect of centrifugal force in order to grip the wire and cause the start of its winding when said spindle reaches a given speed.

Such a machine can include several movable guides for the wire in order to allow the simultaneous winding of several spools, and the means for attaching the wire to the winding spindle can be arranged to attach several ends of the wires to the spindle. Wire guide means are then used to direct each wire to a position where it will be engaged by the movable guide intended to guide it on the spool.

This winding machine comprises (fig. 1 and 2) a winding head 10 mounted on a base 11. Apart from the length of the winding spindle, and the presence of several movable guides for the wire and of wire guide means to direct each of several son on its respective movable guide, the winding head 10 is analogous to the winder described in Swiss patent No. 328385. The winding head 10 comprises a spindle 12 rotatably mounted in bearings in the vicinity of the upper end of a frame 13. In the vicinity of its lower end, the frame 13 is pivotally mounted on a base 14 by means of a shaft 15, in order to allow the pin 12 to oscillate when approaching and moving away. movable guides 16 for the wire as the winding cycle advances.

The movable guides 16 for the wire are reciprocated from a drum cam (not shown) rotatably mounted in bearings in a housing 17 attached to the base 14. The spindle 12 and the cam to drum are rotated by a motor 18.

Y and Y 'threads running downward from a spinning machine which is not shown, pass through a guide 28 disposed on the side of the housing 17, around guides 30 and 31 carried by a compensating arm 32 and go up towards sockets 21 (fig. 3) intended to receive the coils mounted on the spindle 12.

The winding speed of the spindle 12 is regulated by a circuit and a control mechanism similar to those of the envider machine described in Swiss patent No. 327234 and housed in the base 1 1 This circuit and this control mechanism are actuated by the thread or threads to be wound up which move the compensating arm 32, part of said control mechanism, upward to slow down said spindle when the tension in the threads exceeds a given value, and allow said arm 32 to pivot downward when said voltage is less than said given value in order to increase the speed of the spindle. An arm 23 is fixed to the frame 13 in the vicinity of its lower end and pivots with said frame around the shaft 15.

The arm 23 is connected to a shaft 24 mounted in bearings in the base 1 1 by means of a link 25, a cam plate 26, an arm 27 and a slotted lever 28 'to make turn the shaft 24 when the shaft 15 turns clockwise, seen in fig. 1, to decrease the force which must be applied to the compensating arm 32 to lift said arm.

The spindle 12 comprises an expandable mandrel 20 arranged so as to removably grip and hold the bushes 21 intended to receive the coils on said spindle. The expandable mandrel 20 is mechanically connected to a lever 22, which, when rotated, causes the contraction of said mandrel to allow removal of the finished spools from the spindle and to place empty sockets thereon in anticipation. of a new winding cycle.

A cap 35 is attached to the end of the pin 12 so as to rotate with it, by a key which is not shown and a retaining ring 36. The diameter of the cap 35 is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the pin. the sleeve 21 intended to receive the coil, so that said sleeve can slide on this cap when an empty sleeve is placed on the pin 12 and a finished coil is removed from it. The peripheral surface of the cap 35 is of revolution and frustoconical so as to form a frustoconical nose 37 (fig. 5, 6 and 7) axially aligned with an annular flange 38 and fixed thereto. The spindle 12 has a length such that the nose 37 and a part of the flange 38 protrude beyond the socket 21 intended to receive the spool when said socket is in position on the spindle.

A slot 40 is made in the periphery of the flange 38 so as to make an angle of approximately 450 with the longitudinal axis of the cap 35, and a member 41 for engaging the wire is pivotally mounted in this slot. The member 41 is generally triangular in shape and comprises a finger 42 for gripping the thread arranged at one of its vertices and forming an extension of one of its sides. The member 41 is pivotally mounted in the slot 40 in the vicinity of the periphery of the flange 38 so as to be directed towards the nose 37, by means of a pin 43 passing through an opening of said member adjacent to a second top of it and screwed into the cap 35.

A spring 44 surrounds the pin 43, one of its ends being selectively engaged in one of the holes 45 made in the member 41 in the vicinity of the third vertex 47 thereof. The other end of spring 44 is in engagement with a shoulder 46 covering pin 43 so that said member 41 is resiliently pushed towards the interior of part 35 with finger 42 withdrawn into slot 40. The holes 45 are drilled in the member 41 so that we can modify the load applied by the spring on the member 41 and thus modify the value of the speed at which said finger will protrude from the slot 40 to grip a wire and put in runs the winding cycle as explained in detail below.

The wire engagement member 41 operates as follows to pick up a moving wire and start the winding cycle. The moving wire (s) are guided across the frustoconical nose 37, in a manner which will be explained in detail later, and the pin 12 is rotated.

As the speed of rotation of the spindle 12 increases, the top 47 of the member 41 is urged radially outwards by the centrifugal force. When the speed of rotation of the spindle 12 reaches a value for which the surface speed of the sleeve 21 intended to receive the spool is such that it would wind the wire at a speed slightly greater than that of the moving wire, the centrifugal force acting on the top 47 will be sufficient to overcome the action of the force of the spring 44, so that said top 47 will move outward, thus causing the yarn gripping finger 42 to pivot forward out of the slot 40 by -above the frustoconical nose 37 to grasp the moving wire and cause it to wind up on the sleeve 21.

As long as the spindle 12 rotates at a rate at which the thread is wound at a speed which is greater than that of its movement at the time it is attached to this spindle, any loosening of the thread tension is caught up and a sagging buildup is prevented. As soon as the wire begins to wind on the bush 21, the tension in this wire raises the compensating arm 32 in order to slow down said spindle in order to match the winding speed to the speed of movement of the wire. It is clear that the speed of rotation at which the finger 42 will come out of the slot 40 can be modified by changing the force of the spring, by placing its end in another hole 45, or by increasing or decreasing the mass of the top 47 or its distance from the pin 43.

A vacuum cleaner 50 is mounted on the housing 17 in the vicinity of the front end thereof by means of a console 51. Compressed air is supplied to the vacuum cleaner 50 through a tube 52 from a source. not shown. A valve 53 is interposed in the tube 52 in order to allow the air flow to be adjusted.

The vacuum cleaner 50 operates to collect the yarn fed by the spinning machine in the interval between the end of one winding cycle and the start of another. A section of tube 54 is attached to the outlet of the vacuum cleaner 50 to lead the yarn collected by the vacuum cleaner to a yarn waste container. A wire guide rail 55, of metal wire, is attached at one end to the underside of housing 17 adjacent to pin 12 at approximately the midpoint of the length thereof. The rail 55, as seen in FIG. 1, comprises a section 56 which extends upwards and to the right and a section 57 which then extends forwards in a practically horizontal plane away from the casing 17.

When the spools of wire have been completely wound onto spindle 12, the machine operator moves the moving yarns Y and Y 'manually over the guide 28 to bring them to the vicinity of the orifice of the vacuum cleaner 50 and then cut said threads between the vacuum cleaner and guide 28, whereby the threads are sucked into the vacuum cleaner and discharged through tube 54 into a waste container.

The operator then stops the machine, moves the lever 22 to cause the contraction of the mandrel 20 and removes the full coils from the spindle. After two empty sockets 21 intended to receive the coils have been placed on the mandrel 20, the lever 22 is released to block said sockets on the spindle 12 and the frame 13 is moved counterclockwise. , looking at fig. 1, to bring said sockets in the vicinity of the guides 16 for the wire. The operator then pulls the wires
Y and Y 'manually down through guide 28 and around housing 17 and spindle 12 and pass Y yarn around guide 31 and Y yarn around guide 30 carried by said compensating arm.

The Y wire is passed between the section 57 of the rail 55 and the pin 12 and the Y 'wire is placed in position on the other side of the said section 57. The two wires then extend across the frustoconical nose 37 of the part. 35 in the vicinity of the annular flange 38 thereof, over a guide 58 mounted on the console 51 and, from there, in the vacuum cleaner 50 (FIG. 1). With the path of the yarn thus determined, the winding mechanism is started and when the spindle 12 reaches the desired given speed, the yarn engagement finger 42 protrudes from the slot 40 in the flange 38 to grip the two yarns. Y and Y 'and wind them around the nose 37. As soon as the threads have been grasped in this way, the tension in the threads between the pin 12 and the vacuum cleaner 50 causes them to break in the vicinity of said vacuum cleaner. .

Likewise, as soon as the threads begin to wind up on the nose 37, the tension in the threads between said nose and the compensating arm 32 has the effect of moving the threads on the outer sleeve 21, inwardly. As long as the guide 30 is located substantially below the center point of the outer sleeve, the Y wire will tend to stop in the middle of said sleeve. Guide 31 is located below the center point of the inner sleeve and wire Y 'also passes over section 57 of rail 55, so that wire Y' continues to move along the outer sleeve to pass over the inner sleeve.

The two movable guides 16 for the threads are of the self-threading type, well known to those skilled in the art, and they grip their respective thread Y and Y 'and move them longitudinally along their respective sleeves in order to wind the spools. .
