EMI0003.0019
<B>10</B> <SEP> vitesse <SEP> de <SEP> rotation <SEP> de <SEP> la <SEP> broche <SEP> 2 <SEP> ;
<tb> 20 <SEP> pas <SEP> du <SEP> filet <SEP> à <SEP> usiner<B>;</B>
<tb> 30 <SEP> pas <SEP> de <SEP> la <SEP> face <SEP> 72 <SEP> de <SEP> la <SEP> rainure <SEP> de <SEP> la <SEP> patronne <SEP> 65
<tb> commandant <SEP> l'avance <SEP> longitudinale <SEP> de <SEP> coupe <SEP> de
<tb> l'outil <SEP> 9.

The position of the axis 93 along the arm 94 is adjustable; c) a double coupling mounted between the toothed wheels 51 and 96 on the output shaft 48. The movable part 97 of this double coupling is movable axially along the shaft 48, but is angularly secured to this shaft.
This movable part 97 comprises at each of its ends a set of teeth 98, 99 capable of engaging with corresponding teeth 98a, 99a carried respectively by the toothed wheels 51 and 96.
Thus, depending on the axial position occupied by the movable part 97, the output shaft 48 is driven by one or the other of the couplings 98 and 98a, 99 and 99a, so that the threading device F is connected to the spindle by one or the other of the two gear trains 46 and 90 whose transmission ratios are different; d) a shaft 52 driven at one of its ends by the output shaft 48 of the gear trains 46 and 90, by means of two angle pinions 53, 54.
The other end of this shaft 52 mounted to rotate in a bearing 55 integral with the upper slide 29 is driven in the longitudinal and transverse displacements of the latter; e) a horizontal shaft 56 rotatably mounted on the slide 29 and driven by the shaft 52 by means of angle pinions 57, 58. This shaft 56 rotates the horizontal shaft 45 of the threading device F by via a worm 59 and a tangent wheel 60.
To allow the end of the shaft 52 mounted in the bearing 55 to follow the movements of the slide 29, this shaft 52 has two bus joints in 61, 62 mounted between the angle gears 53, 54 carried by the frame 1 and the slide 29 and two fluted parts 63, 64 sliding one on the other but angularly secured.
The lathe also includes a device for controlling the movable part 97 of the double coupling. This device comprises an exchangeable control cam 100 fixed on the camshaft 13 and on the periphery of which rolls a roller 101 mounted at the end of an arm 102 of a lever with two arms 103 pivoted on an axis 104 parallel to the camshaft 13 and fixed to the frame 1. The second arm 105 of this lever 103 is subjected to the action of a return spring 106 tending to keep the roller <B> 101 </B> in contact with control cam 100.
This second arm 105 transmits its angular displacements to an arm 107 of a second lever with two arms 108 on which it is articulated and which is pivoted at 109 on the frame 1. The second arm <B> 110 </B> of the lever 108 comprises at its end a toothed sector 111 which meshes with a second toothed sector 112 pivoted at 113 on the frame 1. This second toothed sector 112 is mechanically connected by a linkage 114 to a finger 115 engaged in a peripheral groove 116 of the part movable 97 of the double coupling in such a way that an angular displacement imparted by means of the levers 103 and 108 to this toothed sector 112 by the control cam 100, causes an axial displacement of this movable part 97. The cam control 100 has two sectors o and p.
The first sector o which has the smallest radius controls the engagement of the coupling 98, 98a and therefore causes the drive of the output shaft 48 at a first speed, while the second sector p of larger radius controls the engagement of the coupling 99, 99a and thus causes the drive of the output shaft 48 at a second speed.
On the horizontal shaft 45 of the threading device F are wedged two machining cams, either a drum cam 65 with a groove, known as the boss, and a flat cam 66. The boss 65 actuates, via a finger 67 provided with a roller 68, an auxiliary longitudinal slide 69 sliding on guides 70 integral with the upper slide 2.9. An antagonist spring 71 bearing on the slide 29 exerts a thrust on the auxiliary longitudinal slide 69, so as to keep the roller 68 in contact with the rear face 72 of the groove of the boss 65.
In order to achieve a precision thread, it is in fact essential to eliminate any play which could occur at the end of the travel between the roller 68 and the groove of the boss 65, a play which would result in a shift between the rotation of the the thread 3 and the feed movement of the cutting tool 9.
On the auxiliary slide 69 is articulated a rectangular support 73 capable of pivoting on one of its sides about a horizontal axis XX under the action of a pusher 74 carried by the upper slide 29 and actuated by the flat cam 66 by the intermediate of an angled lever 75 pivoted on the slide 29. The pusher 74 comprises a roller 76 which rolls on a longitudinal face 77 of the support 73, with which it is kept in contact by means of a spring 78 bearing support on the auxiliary slide 69. The support 73 comprises an arm 79 in which is fixed in a longitudinally adjustable manner a horizontal axis 80 at the end of which, opposite the spindle 2, is mounted a threading tool 9.
The boss 65, which is exchangeable, is chosen so that the stroke which it imposes on the tool 9 is equal to the length of the thread to be machined, while the cam 66, which is also exchangeable, is chosen in depending on the desired radial depth of cut.
The operation of the threading lathe described is as follows. The lathe being in its rest position, shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the lower slide 26 is at the end of travel in the direction of the arrow R and the upper slide 29 is at the end of the travel in the direction of the arrow S, positions for which the tool 9 is fully disengaged longitudinally. and transversely of the spindle 2. On the other hand, the auxiliary slide 69 of the threading device F is fully travel in the direction of the arrow T, position corresponding to the start of a pass of the tool 9.
The swivel support 73 occupies its extreme position in the direction of the arrow U, corresponding to the disengaged position of the tool 9 and determined by the minimum height of lift of the flat cam 66 and the length of the arms of the elbow lever 75 .
The operator then mounts on the camshaft 13 cams established specially for the two threads to be executed, namely a grooved cam 12 controlling the clutch E, cams 32 and 37 controlling the movements of the slides 26 and 29 and a cam 100 controlling the axial movements of the movable part 97 of the double coupling. These four cams are established and wedged on the camshaft 13 so that the operations which they control are combined during one revolution of the camshaft 13, that is to say that the parts of the clutch E and of the double coupling are engaged or disengaged according to a cycle determined in advance and controlled during a complete revolution of the camshaft 13.
Likewise, the displacements of the slides are operated according to the operating cycle determined in advance and with an amplitude determined by the dimensions of the two threads to be executed. The speed of rotation to be imparted to the horizontal shaft 45 of the threading device and therefore the transmission ratio connecting the spindle 2 to this shaft 45 are a function of several factors.

The speed of spindle 2 is determined by the cutting speed chosen by the operator and by the diameter of the thread to be executed; on the other hand, the pitch of the face 72 of the boss's groove is determined by the length of this thread. Taking into account these two factors thus determined, the operator chooses a transmission ratio of the mechanical link connecting the spindle 2 to the threading device F such that it prints to the horizontal shaft 45 and to the cams 65 and 66 a speed allowing the pitch of the thread to be machined to be achieved.
For the first thread to be machined, the operator mounts the toothed wheels 49, 50 and 51 of the first gear train 46, for example, on the lathe, giving the transmission ratio corresponding to the pitch of this first thread, then he mounts the cogwheels 91, 92, 96 of the second gear train 90 giving. the transmission ratio corresponding to the pitch of the second thread to be machined.
The operator then mounts on the horizontal shaft 45 of the threading device F the boss 65 whose stroke (or lift) is equal to the length of the thread to be executed and the flat cam 66 whose lift, combined with the length of the arms of the angled lever 75, prints to the support 73 and, consequently, to the tool 9 a radial displacement equal to the desired depth of cut increased by a safety value (for example '/ iv to' / io of mm) to prevent the tool from rubbing on the outer surfaces of the thread during the return stroke. These two cams 65 and 66 are used for the two threads to be executed successively.
The timing angle of these two cams 65 and 66 on the horizontal shaft 45 is provided, relative to the timing angle of the cams carried by the camshaft 13, so as to coordinate in time the ac tion of these various cams so that the various operations follow one another in the desired order.
The operator then starts the lathe motor, not shown, driving, on the one hand, the spindle 2 at the speed chosen by the operator according to the cutting speed and the diameter of the thread to be executed and, d 'on the other hand, the camshaft 13, which accomplishes a single revolution during the successive cutting of the two threads of part 3.
The flat cams 32 and 37 actuate the lower sliders 26 and upper 29, by means of the mechanical members 34 to 36, respectively 38 to 43, causing rapid transverse and longitudinal approach movements in the opposite direction of the arrows R and S, which bring the slides 26 and 29, therefore the threading device F, in the working position for the start of the first thread.
The length m of the axis 80 carrying the threading tool 9 is determined so that, in this working position of the threading device F, the cutting edge of the tool 9 is placed in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the spindle and passes through the start of the thread to be cut.
As soon as the tool 9 occupies this starting position, the grooved cam 12 actuates the clutch E of the control shaft 7, 7a to establish the kinematic connection between the spindle 2 and the device to be threaded F.
Then, assuming that the speed of the horizontal shaft 45 of the threading device F as seen by the operator for machining the first thread is obtained by using the first gear train 46 driven by the spindle 2, the control cam 100 operates, via the levers 103 and 108 and the linkage 114, the engagement of the coupling 98, 98a connecting the toothed wheels of the first gear train 46 to the output shaft 48 of the two sets d 'gears 46 and 90, as shown in FIG. 1.
The cam 66 prints to the tool 9, through the intermediary of the members 73 to 77, a transverse engagement movement to the radial depth of pass chosen by the operator, then the boss 65 prints to the 'tool a cutting feed movement through the members 67 to 70.
As soon as the tool has completed the first pass, the cam 66 causes the radial release of the tool, by means of the members 73 to 77 and the return spring 78, while the boss 65, whose action is combined with the thrust of the spring 71 on the auxiliary slide 69, causes the rapid return of the tool to its working start position.
At this moment, the flat cam 32 of the camshaft 13 gives the transverse slide 26 a slight advance so as to move the tool 9 radially by the amount necessary to bring it into the starting position for the second work. past. The passes then follow each other in the same way until the finish of the first net.
To then proceed with cutting the second thread, the grooved cam 12 controls the release of the two parts 10 and 11 of the clutch E and therefore interrupts the mechanical connection between the spindle 2 and the threading device F. The cams 65 and 66 of this threading device F are then in their rest position shown in the drawing, then the flat cams 32 and 37 of the camshaft 13 move the carriage transversely and longitudinally into a second working position of the carriage for which the tool 9 occupies a position corresponding to the start of work for the second thread.
The control cam 100 carried by the camshaft 13 then actuates, by means of the levers 103 and 108 and of the linkage 114, the movable part 97 of the double coupling in order to cause the release of the coupling. The coupling 98, 98a and the engagement of the coupling 99, 99a, while the grooved cam 12 controls the re-engagement of the two parts 10 and 11 of the clutch E.
Thus, the threading device F is now connected to spindle 2 via the second train of gears 90, the transmission ratio of which makes it possible to transmit to the machining cams 65 and 66 the speed chosen by the operator. for machining the second thread. From this moment, the tool 9 starts the first pass of the second thread and the passes then follow one another in the same way as described above until the finish of this second thread.
When this second thread is finished, the grooved cam 12 causes the release of the two parts 10 and 11 of the clutch E to interrupt the mechanical connection between the spindle and the threading device F. The cams 65 and 66 are immobilized in their position. rest position, shown in the drawing, then the flat cams 32 and 37 for actuating the sliders return, upon completing their revolution, the sliders 26 and 29 of the carriage in the direction of the arrows R and S until in their rest position shown in the drawing. The spindle 2 of the lathe is then immobilized by known means (not shown) in order to allow the machined part to be removed and a new part to be threaded 3 to be fitted in the mandrel 4.
It is known that in known automatic threading lathes comprising a cross slide carriage, the upper slide on which the cutting tool is fixed moves transversely and not longitudinally as in the lathe described. On the other hand, the tool is fixed directly on the upper slide and all its movements in the axial direction and in the radial direction of the part to be threaded, necessary for the machining operation, are transmitted to it by the longitudinal slides. and transverse of the carriage.
On these lathes, it is possible to cut in a single operation two threads of different diameters using a tool with two knives offset radially and axially and working simultaneously; however, these two threads must necessarily have the same pitch since the two knives are integral with one another and work together. These lathes also have the disadvantage that the relatively heavy masses of the sliders, and particularly of the longitudinal slider, must be moved between each pass in order to return the tool to the starting position each time, which slows down the operation. , causes rapid wear of moving parts and limits work precision.
The lathe described has, on the contrary, the great advantage of making it possible to machine successively using the same tool, two coaxial threads of different pitch and possibly of different diameter in the same operating cycle, that is, that is to say without recovery, by using two different transmission ratios for the movements of the tool necessary to carry out the first then the second thread. In addition, only relatively light mechanical parts are set in motion during machining, apart from the slight radial advance of the transverse slide between successive passes, which allows the two threads to be executed with great speed and precision. .
The description of the operation of the automatic lathe relates to the machining of external threads. When machining internal threads, as shown, for example, in fig. 3, the plane perpendicular to the axis of the spindle 2 passing through the start of the thread to be executed may be located at a distance d inside the workpiece. On the other hand, the axis 80 is adjusted on the arms 79 so as to have a free length m at least equal to the total depth of the two threads to be executed, so that the tool 9 can reach the end of the pass of the second thread without the arm 79 coming into contact with the piece to be threaded.
The tool 9 is itself turned over on the axis 80 so that its cutting edge, which in this case attacks the rear part of the internal thread, is adapted to the direction of rotation of the spindle 2.
