The present invention relates to an aircraft steering control apparatus, characterized in that it comprises an actuating motor comprising a movable element connected to a rudder of the airplane and a device for controlling this actuating motor comprising a movable element, the excitation of said motor being controlled as a function of the movement of this element, the arrangement being such that when the movable element of the motor has has been moved by an amount proportional to the displacement of the movable element of the control device,
the excitation of the motor is interrupted in such a way to to prevent a subsequent displacement of the rudder, and an auxiliary motor comprising a mobile element connected to </ B > the movable element of the control device so as to moving this movable element, during the excitation of said auxiliary motor under the effect of a control signal to from a control instrument, in a quantity proportional to this control signal, and limiting means for limiting the amplitude of the displacement of said mobile element of the auxiliary motor between specified limits.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of & example, one embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view showing the mechanical and electrical components of this device. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, to on a larger scale, of a detail of the apparatus.
In the drawing, the fixed elements of the airframe of an airplane carrying the rudder control apparatus are designated by 10 . A rudder 11, for example an elevator, can be actuated to move the airplane around its pitch axis. As shown, the control surface 11 is pivotally mounted on a part of the fixed cell 10 of the airplane, this control surface being connected to an element mo bile or housing of a force multiplier or hydraulic servo motor of the device.
The actuating motor is generally designated by the reference 12 in FIG. 2. The movable element or housing 13 of the servo-motor 12 comprises an arm in door to false 14 which, in the arrangement shown,
is articulated on an arm 15 fixed relative to to the rudder 11. The casing 13 also forms for the hydraulic servo-motor 12 a cylinder inside which moves a piston 16. One end of the rod 17 of the piston of this engine 12 comes out of the part of the housing 13 forming the cylinder and is connected to pivot to the fixed cell 10 from the plane. Consequently, a translational movement of the motor housing 13 to the right when looking at fig. 2, relative to the fixed 16 piston, operates the rudder clockwise, in order to cause an elevator control corresponding to a nose down of the aircraft .
The movement of the housing 13 to the left (looking at fig. 2) relative to the piston 16 likewise produces a displacement of the rudder or the elevator in the counterclockwise around its pivot axis, which corresponds to a pitching movement of the airplane. The device & actuation of the rudder is constituted, consequently, by the movable element or housing 13 of the hydraulic servo-motor 12. The fixed element or piston of the hydraulic servo-motor 12 is articulated on the 10 airframe of the airplane.
The actuating motor or hydraulic servo motor 12 is connected directly to the control surface 11 serving to steer the aircraft. The element serving to actuate the actuating motor 12, shown in FIG. 2, is constituted by a usual distributor of the with spool type, indicated in 18, which acts in such a way to control the feeding of the cylinder motor 12 with hydraulic fluid.
As shown, a pressurized fluid supply source, generally indicated at 19 in FIG. 1, which may be constituted by a tank and a hydraulic pump in the usual way, supplies pressurized fluid to the engine through an intake pipe 20. The return pipe ends at the source of fluid 19 consists of a delivery pipe 21. Fittings are provided on the engine housing 13 to receive the ends of these pipes .
The distributor 18 is constituted by a movable part in translation, which moves in a cylinder formed in the housing 13 to from a neutral position, in which it is represented. tee in fig. 2, the areas 22 and 24 then covering respective ports of the distributor communicating with channels 23 and 25 leading to the opposite ends of the cylinder of the servomotor. When moving the 18 dispenser spool to the right looking at fig. 2, under the control of a rod 26, a fluid under high pressure coming from the source 19 through the conduit 20 is admitted into the part of the engine cylinder located to the right of piston 16,
through the channel (Tadmission 27, of the communication channel 28, of the part of the drawer located between the tracks 22 and 24, and of the channel 25. At the same time, the fluid which is in the engine cylinder to the left of the piston 16 is put into communication with the source of fluid 19 through the, delivery pipe 21, through channel 23, of the part of the spool located to the left of range 22, of the delivery channel 29 and of the communication channel 30. The housing 13 of the engine 12 is requested accordingly to the right in order to follow the movement of the drawer 18 until the respective areas again cover the lights communicating with the channels 23 , 25,
in order to bring the distributor to a neutral position. The servo movement of the housing eliminates the need to use a separate feedback for the servo motor. During operation of the t3 # described above, the motor 12 requests the rudder clockwise around its pivot, in order to bring it to a position which corresponds to to < / B> a ravion dive. When translating the 18 spool of the distributor to the left, looking at fig. 2, an inverse operation is obtained.
In this case, the fluid under high pressure is admitted into the part of the engine cylinder located to the left of the piston 16, through the channel 23, < / B> the part of the distributor located between the areas 22, 24, and the channels 28, 27, up to the inlet pipe 20. At the same time, the part of the cylinder which is to the right of piston 16 is put into communication with the delivery pipe 21 via channel 25, the part of the distributor spool which is to the right of range 24, and the discharge channel 31, up to channel 30 </ B> communicating with the aforementioned pipe.
The housing 13 of the servomotor 12 is therefore biased to the left, looking at fig. 2 until the respective areas 22 and 24 again cover the lights leading to the channels 23 and 25 of the cylinder, in order to bring the distributor back to a neutral position. The movement of the housing 13 here again follows the triggering movement of the distributor, in order to eliminate the need to provide a reaction for the engine. This results in an angular displacement of the rudder counterclockwise around its pivot, to a position corresponding to a nose-up of the airplane.
The actuation, in the manner described, of the force multiplier motor 12 can be ensured automatically by means of a direct control provided, for example, by an automatic pilot device, as well as by hand under. the effect of the force exerted by the pilot on the broomstick, which is considered to be the element which can be operated with by hand and serves for < / B> to control the of aircraft.
Given that the apparatus represented can be used for controlling an airplane around its pitch axis, the manual control element represented at 32 in FIG. 1 consists of a handle with brush 33 mounted to pivot on the cell 10 </ B > in order to move around an axis which may be parallel to the aircraft's pitch axis. The broomstick 33 includes a flywheel 34, which is gripped by the pilot to move the broomstick around its axis, and a controller 35 which supplies an alternating output current according to the force exerted by the pilot on the steering wheel 34.
As shown in fig. 2, the handle with brush 33 is mechanically connected to the distributor 18 controlling the operation of the force multiplier motor 12 by a differential 36 and by a connecting element or rod 37. The differential shown in fig. 2 com takes an oscillating lever 38, connected to the distributor 18 by a slot and a lug,
this slot being provided at the end of the rod 26 of this distributor and the stud being provided on the oscillating lever 38. The output movement of the differential 36 is communicated to the rod 26 of the distributor in order to ensure the displacement of the spool 18. L 'one of the input movements of the differential is obtained from from a rotating cylindrical actuator 39, which constitutes an adjustable device for varying or for limit the effectiveness of the automatic piloting device of the aircraft on the rudder 11, as described in more detail below.
As shown in fig. 2, the upper end of the oscillating lever 38 of the differential is articulated on the actuator 39, the aforementioned link transmitting the angular displacement of the actuator 39 to the 26 rod of the distributor. The other input movement of the differential 36 is obtained at from the component at manual control 32, </ B > by means of the rod 37, one end of which is articulated on the end of the handle to brush 33, tan say that the other end is, likewise, articulated on the end of the swinging lever 38 which comes out towards the bottom of the housing 13 of the engine.
When no entry movement is provided by the autopilot device, the rocking lever 38 moves around its upper pivot, to come to occupy the position indicated in dotted lines at 40 when the pilot re pushes the handle with brush 33 forward, which causes a rearward displacement of the link 37. This results in a displacement of the 18 spool of the distributor to the right, looking at fig. 2 to bring the elevator 11 into a nose-down position. A reverse action exerted by the pilot on the stick with brush provides a position of nose-up, which is also obtained by the intermediary of the servo-motor 12.
The device's differential 36 is carried by the housing 13 of the servo motor 12.
In order to keep the broom handle sufficiently sensitive for the pilot, a command sensor is provided comprising, as shown in fig. 1, a slide with rack, 41, movable relative to to the airplane and carrying springs, deformable centering, cooperating with the handle to brush 33 via an arm carried by the rod 37. The control sensitizer is elastically connected to the device's manual control unit.
The position of the slide relative to to the airplane is determined by a driving pinion 42, which meshes with the rack of the slide 41, this pinion 42 being able to be driven in rotation, to modify the position of 'balancing the handle to brush 33, with using a drive motor 43 connected to the pinion by shafts and a reduction gear 43', as indicated.
The device for the proper balancing of the to joystick 33 includes the control sensor described to as illustrative. In order to be able to move the handle to broom to by hand, it is sufficient for the pilot to overcome the force accumulated in the centering spring (correspondingly tensioned) of the sensitizer. commands shown.
The operation of the device according to the automatic mode is ensured by displacement of the rotary actuator 39 around its axis, the oscillating arm 38 then pivoting around its axis. its articulation with the rod 37, as indicated by the dotted position designated by 44. The corresponding movement of the valve spool 18 brings the elevator nail into a position nose down under the effect of the engine 12, in order to correct the upright or nose up position detected by the automatic piloting device.
For regulation around the pitch axis, the elements of the autopilot device shown here may include a flight path reference device, generally indicated at 45, which provides an output signal. control when the airplane deviates from the flight path or from the position determined by the reference device.
This device 45 can be formed by one or more elements , for example by a vertical gyroscope combined to a pitch axis controller, by an altimeter providing an output signal when the aircraft deviates from a reference altitude, by a landing path receiver providing an output signal when the aircraft deviates from a reference angle of attack, and by d 'other usual reference devices, applicable to the control of the airplane around its pitch axis.
As shown in fig. 1, the signal coming from the reference device 45, conjugated to an output signal provided by a maneuver control potentiometer 46 placed under the pilot's control by the A pitch knob 47 provides through leads 48, 49 an input signal which is applied to an amplifier-rectifier block indicated at 50. The DC output signal of the amplifier-rectifier unit 50 is applied by the conductor 51 to the windings (servo motor 52 fun of autopilot . As shown here,
the 52 servo-motor consists of a direct current electric motor. The magnetic stator forming the poles of the motor 52 is shown in fig. 2, and it is mounted on the housing 13 of the motor 12. The movable armature 53 of the servo-motor 52 is mounted so oscillating on the casing 13 with a view to limited movement in the air gaps formed between the pole faces of its stator.
An arm 54 fixed on the frame 53 of the servo-motor 52 serves, as shown in fig. 2, to control the movement of the cylindrical actuator 39 by means of an auxiliary hydraulic motor of the rotary type, of which the actuator is constituted by a piston.
This piston is indicated in 55. The chambers of the piston cylinder 55 are provided in the housing 13 of the servo motor 12 as indicated in < B> 56 and 57. The control valve 58 of this auxiliary motor is also carried by the housing 13 and is log6 in a cylindrical cavity thereof, the valve spool being connected to a rod 59 coming out of the housing 13 and itself connected to the arm 54 of the servo-motor 52 by a lug and a slot.
Centering springs are provided in order to normally maintain the valve spool 58 in a neutral position with respect to the housing 13, and in this position the ranges 60 , 61 cover lights communicating with channels 62, 63 leading to chambers 56, 57. In the case of a control signal from the reference device 45 and corresponding to a nose-up condition of the airplane, the reaction of the servo motor 52 is such that it moves the control valve spool 58 to the left looking at fig. 2.
Fluid under high pressure is then transmitted to chamber 56 at from inlet pipe 20, through channel 27, channel 64. connected to this channel 27, an open communication zone 65, and channels 66, 67, as well as through the middle part of the dispenser drawer 58 and the channel 62. At the same time, the chamber 57 is set to </ B> the exhaust through channel 63, the part of the distributor spool located to the right of range 61, a channel communication 68, and channels 69, 70, to the delivery channel 30 and to the outlet pipe 21.
This operation requests the actuator 39 clockwise, in order to provide an input movement to the differential 36, from from the automatic piloting device, this entry movement serving to bring the lever 38 to the position indicated in dotted lines at 44.
As a result, the servo motor 12 operates to move the elevator rudder to correct the nose up position which is due to the initial error signal from the autopilot device. On reverse detection by the automatic piloting device, the opposite result is necessarily obtained.
In this case, the dispenser drawer 58 is biased to the right, looking at fig. 2 and the pressurized fluid enters the chamber 57 through the channel 63. The chamber 56 is then placed in communication with the delivery 21 via channel 62, the part of the valve spool located to left of range 60 and a connection channel 71, up to the delivery channel 69. This operation requests the actuator 39 in a counterclockwise direction,
and moves the distributor 18 such that the servomotor 12 acts to bring the rudder 11 into a position of righting or pitching. When the input signal applied to the unit by the autopilot device is used to move the swing lever 38 of the differential to the position indicated for example in dotted lines at 44, this lever 38 pivots around its articulation with the manual control rod 37 at a fixed point, when the actuation 39 rotates around its axis, so as to move the upper pivot of this rocking lever 38 to the right, looking at fig. 2.
The actuator 39 also moves with the housing 13, in order to follow the movement of the valve spool 18. Consequently, when the lug carried by the rocking lever 38 comes to occupy a position corresponding to line 44, the casing 13 has also been moved so corresponding to the right, and the valve spool 18 in neutral position interrupts the supply of fluid to the force multiplier motor 12, the control lever 11 then being in a position dive.
When the aircraft reacts to this position, the input signal applied to the aircraft to from the autopilot device is reduced to a value of zero, and the actuator 39 returns to its initial middle position, as shown in solid lines in fig. 2. Compared to the control valve spool 18, the signal & input applied to the device by the automatic pilot device therefore contains a mechanical reaction. As a result of this particularity, it is possible to suppress any inversion command in the manual and automatic working modes of the device.
The input signals applied to ]! Device to by hand and by the automatic pilot device can also be simultaneous without the need for a mechanism. reaction process to be able to overcome one of these input signals.
The described apparatus comprises a reaction control device for the automatic pilot device. As shown, this device comprises a signal generator controller 72 or electrical synchronization device of the Selsyn type, the stator of which is fixedly mounted on the housing 13 </ B> of the servo motor 12, as shown in fig. 1. The controller rotor is driven by a pinion 73 (fig. 2)
which meshes with a toothing of the cylindrical actuator 39. The controller generates a signal whose amplitude is a function of the angular displacement of the actuator 39 to from its neutral position, and whose phase depends on the direction of rotation. The controller output signal is applied to the amplifier-rectifier block 50 by the conductor 74, in opposition to the input signal of this block coming from the signal generator. reference 45.
To facilitate maneuvering of the airplane with using the joystick 33 instead of the pitch control button 47, the output signal obtained to from the controller 35 provided on the stick to brush 33 is applied to the control device autopilot in opposition to the control input signal from the reference device 45.
As shown, this signal is applied, after integration in an integrator 75, to amplifier 50, by driver 76. To balance the handle to brush 33 when the aircraft is working in manual mode or in automatic pilot mode, an automatic balancing switch is closed 77, < / B> and the output signal of the reference device 45 of the autopilot device, applied by a lead 78, an amplifier 79, a lead 80 < / B> and the closed switch 77 is used to operate the balancing motor 43, in order to move the gear rack to a corresponding extent.
In the manual control mode, the balancing motor acts to remove the tension exerted by the pilot on the control sensitizer device when initiating a maneuver. In the control mode in automatic piloting, the maneuver being triggered by turning the control knob 47, the balancing motor acts through the control sensitizer to move the broom handle, which is free, in order to keep it in a correct balancing position. The automatic balancing of the stick can be overridden by moving the 77 switch to its open position.
The rotary actuator 39 of the apparatus described further comprises a limiting element in the form of a slot 81 which, in cross section, is similar to a sector-shaped orifice formed in the body of the actuator. A stop, constituted by a pusher 82 movable in translation and carried by the casing 13, cooperates with this limiting slot.
The arrangement under consideration also comprises two centering pins 83 spaced apart from each other, provided in the vicinity of the slot 81 of the actuator and with which the converging faces of the pusher 82. The radial walls spaced apart from the slot limit the angular displacement of the actuator 39 to </ B > the inside of the housing 13 with respect to to the stop 82 and, consequently, the input movement of the differential 36 produced by the autopilot device.
This arrangement constitutes a variable coupling device or variator & input, mounted between the servo-motor of the automatic piloting device and the differential of the apparatus. The servo motor of the automatic piloting device comprises the servo motor 52 and the auxiliary hydraulic servo motor, including the actuator 39 < / B> constitutes the mobile piston. This arrangement also constitutes a device serving to limit the angular movement obtained at the input of the differential to from the device of < / B> automatic piloting of the device.
The amplitude of the angular movement determined by the described variable coupling can be adjusted by modifying the distance between the wedge end of the stop plunger 82 and the radial walls adjacent to the slot 81. The movement of the pusher 82 to a position in which it cooperates with the pins 83 of the actuating member centers that this relative to the 13 crankcase and prevents any input movement of the differential to from the autopilot device.
The translation of the pusher 82 to the left, looking at fig. 2 increases the distance between the walls of the slot 81 and the wedge-shaped end of the pusher, and consequently sharpens the working range of the actuator 39, </ B> determined by the input signal applied to Papp # areil by the autopilot device.
The stop of the variable coupling is shown in fig. 2 by the pusher 82 which constitutes a movable udder in translation in a cylinder 84 formed in the housing 13. The part of the cylinder 84 located to </ B > the right of the flange of the pusher, which forms a piston, is connected to the inlet pipe 20 of the fluid under high pressure by a channel 85, which communicates with the channel 66 traversed by this fluid.
The pressure which normally prevails in the cylinder 84 urges the pusher 82 to the left, looking at FIG. 2, in order to compress the spring 86 and to apply this pusher against the end of a rod 87 which, in the arrangement shown, penetrates into a cylindrical housing of it. The rod 87 is a movable part in translation, which is arranged coaxially with the cylinder 84. An axial groove of the rod cooperates with a key fixed on the housing 13, for prevent this rod from rotating with respect to this housing.
The axial position of the rod 87 relative to the housing 13 therefore normally determines the distance between the pusher 82 and the slot of the actuating member 39. The device serving to adjust or to vary the position of the sliding rod 87 </ B> and of the pusher 82 is constituted by the threaded end of this rod 87 and by a pinion & entramement 88 with which it meshes. As shown, the rotating pinion 88 is driven by a pinion 89 driven by a motor 90, which belongs to an adjustment device.
This device further comprises controls which can be operated automatically or by by hand, in order to regulate the operation of the drive motor 90. In this respect, a calculator indicated at 91 in fig. 1 provides an output signal which is applied to the motor 90 by a conductor 92, a switch 93 driven to the automatic control position, a conductor 94, an amplifier 95 and a conductor 96 terminating in the excitation windings of the motor.
A reaction is provided ' in this loop of the apparatus described, by a controller generating signals 97 of the same type as the controller 35, whose armature is fixed to an extension of the rod 87 and whose stator 99 is fixed to the casing 13. The buckle described does not engine 90, in order to adjust push-button 82 according to the signal supplied by the computer 9 1, the mo tor 90 acting until the signal from controller 97 and applied to amplifier 95 by a conductor 100 balances the input signal applied to the amplifier to from the ECU, and at this time the 90 engine stops,
the position of the pusher then being determined automatically. The calculation 91 automatically modifies the degree of efficiency of the automatic piloting device, in order to avoid the application to of too high stresses during & automatic operation under very different flight conditions. Factors acting on the Pavion which are taken into account by computer 91 may include dynamic pressure, altitude, Mach number and air density.
As shown in fig. 1, the regulation of the engine 90 can also be ensured by the pilot thanks to the adjustment to by hand & a button of control 101 with respect to at a graduation of degrees & efficiency in ascending or descending flight, as indicated in 102. The button 101 controls the output voltage of a bridge potentiometer 103, this output voltage being applied by conductors 104, 105 </ I > to amplifier 95, by]! via switch 93, which is now closed on the position corresponding to to manual control.
When the 101 knob is set to a position corresponding to a degree of efficiency: equal to zero, the motor 90 is controlled in such a way that the pusher 82 is in its centering position, in which it is in contact with the pins 83, the device < B> of automatic piloting then producing no input movement of the differential.
When the button 101 is moved clockwise to the desired setting, the motor 90 operates in a to move the rod 87 to the left and to allow the pusher 82 to move & in a corresponding way under the influence of the pressure of the acting fluid in cylinder 84. When the appropriate setting has been reached for the knob, the engine 90 stops, and the pusher occupies a position which limits the effectiveness of the autopilot device in the device to desired degree.
The apparatus described further comprises components allowing the pilot to retain control of the 11 rudder of the airplane during a failure of the pressurized fluid supply to the servo motor. hydraulic 12, as well as during a failure of the electric power supply to the automatic piloting device.
With regard to hydraulic type failures, the 82 button of the efficiency control device of the apparatus constitutes an element which cancels the input movement of the differential 36. The spring 86 of this mechanism constitutes a governing body, which functions in such a way to make the cancellation mechanism act during a hydraulic motor pressurized fluid supply failure.
In the event of a drop in working fluid pressure due to pump failure or a break in the supply line, the pressure reduction achieved in the inlet pipe 20 is reflected in all 13. crankcase pressure channels These channels are 27, 28, 64, 66, 67 and 85. </ B> When the pressure drops to the right of pusher 82, the compressed spring 86 moves this pusher 82 to the right, so that its wedge-shaped end comes into contact with the lugs 83 of the actuator and centers the actuator.
This operation consequently cancels any input movement of the member 39 likely to be produced by the automatic piloting device. At the same time, a channel 106 closed by a valve 108 and provided between channels 23 and 25 leading to ends of the engine cylinder 12 is open, in order to equalize the pressure exerted on each face of its piston 16. As shown in fig. 2, the high pressure channel 107 which communicates with the pipe & inlet 20 through the channels 27, 28 and the middle part of the valve spool 18 </ B > moved between beaches 22 and 24,
acts normally to keep the valve 108 in a position closing off the channel 106, despite the force & a compressed spring 109. When the pressure reigning in the cylinder formed above the valve 108 decreases, the spring 109 moves the valve 108 which opens channel 106. This occurs in the event of failure of the hydraulic device of the appliance. On the other hand, the spring 86 and the pusher 82 act in the manner described in order to center the actuator 39 during a power supply failure of the autopilot device.
An electric power source is indicated in in this regard at 110 in FIG. 1. As shown, when a switch 111 of the autopilot device is closed, current is applied through leads to the amplifier-rectifier block 50 and to The amplifier 95 to from this power source 110. The current is also supplied by the source 110 to a solenoid 1 12, through the conductors 113 and 114, when the automatic control switch is closed.
The energized solenolide 112 normally maintains the spool of a valve 116, movable in a cylindrical cavity of the housing 13, in a position in which a spring 117 < / B> expected at one end of this drawer is compressed. In the normal position shown in fig. 2, the area between the areas of the valve spool forms a passage connecting the high pressure channel 64 to the channel 66, so that the pressurized fluid is supplied to the both to the distributor 58 and to the cylinder 84, to from the inlet pipe 20.
The solenoid 112 detects an electrical failure of the power source of the autopilot device, and it is up to the steering device serving to cancel any input movement of the component 33 </ B > likely to be produced by this automatic piloting device in the event of a failure of this type.
Since the West solenoid is more excited at the time of failure, the spring 117 pushes the valve spool back so that its right side covers the end of channel 64, and accordingly interrupts the valve spool. 'high pressure fluid inlet to channels 66 and 85. At the same time, the left side of the valve spool 116 uncovers the channel 69 delivery outlet opening into its cylinder, and puts it in communication with the channels 66 and 85 through the open area between the pads.
The spring 86 then moves the push button 82 along the rod 87, so that it comes into contact with the lugs 83 of the actuating member 39, to center the latter and consequently to cancel, in this case, any movement of this member. In the event of an electrical failure of the power supply to the automatic piloting device, the pilot therefore retains control of the II rudder through the intermediary of the force multiplier motor 12.
In the apparatus described, when the engine 12 is put to rest following a failure of the hydraulic fluid supply source, the pilot retains direct manual control of the rudder by means of the stick to < / B> brush 33. In this case, part of the swinging lever 38 of the differential is arranged in such a way to attack P one of the limiting lugs additional 118, 119 provided on the & actuator 39, in order to move the casing 13 and to act accordingly the 11.
