La bride 12 porte, en outre, des tourillons 17 qui s'engagent dans des trous 18 prévus dans les élé ments 13 et 14 pour les rendre solidaires en rota tion de la bride 12. D'autre part, l'extrémité de l'ar bre 2 est solidaire d'une partie 19 enveloppant la bride 12 solidaire de l'arbre 1 ;
Mechanism for making two coaxial shafts integral in rotation, at least one of which is in motion The present invention relates to a mechanism enabling two coaxial shafts, at least one of which is in motion, to be made integral in rotation.
This mechanism comprises, of a bet, a friction synchronization device intended to bring the two shafts to the same speed of rotation and, on the other hand, a toothed coupling device comprising an intermediate piece, always angularly solid. of one of the shafts and capable of being displaced axially once the two shafts have been brought into synchronism by the synchronization device,
to be made angularly integral with the other shaft. As this mechanism is intended to be used more. particularly for the transmission of high powers and that, therefore, the moving parts are very heavy, both the synchronization device and the toothed coupling device are controlled by pressurized fluid.
One of the main difficulties which arise in toothed coupling devices arises from the fact that, even after perfect synchronization of the rotational speeds of the two shafts to be coupled, it happens that one has difficulty, or even that it is impossible to engage the intermediate piece simultaneously in the two adjacent ends of the shafts.
In fact, it may happen that the relative position of the two shafts does not allow the engagement of the intermediate piece because the teeth of the latter abut against the teeth provided at the end of the 'shaft on which said intermediate piece must be engaged.
The object of the present invention is a mechanism making it possible to remedy this drawback. This mechanism is characterized by the fact that it comprises a distributor for controlling the pressurized fluid circuit controlling the synchronization device, this distributor comprising a slide and being arranged so that this slide is actuated during each movement of engagement of said intermediate piece of the toothed coupling device, immediately before the latter is made angularly integral with said other shaft,
so as to cause a release of the synchronization device allowing a relative angular displacement between the two shafts and facilitating the engagement of the toothed coupling device.
The drawing. appended shows, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of a mechanism making it possible to make the shaft of an alternator and the shaft of a hydraulic turbine integral in rotation.
Figs. 2 to 5 are diagrams showing the different phases occurring during the coupling and uncoupling of said mechanism.
The mechanism shown in fig. 1 is applied to a hydroelectric machine comprising an alternator intended to be driven in normal operation by a turbine. This machine further comprises a pump intended to be driven by the alternator then operating as a motor.
This machine therefore comprises a shaft formed of three main sections: the shaft section 1, integral with the alternator, the shaft section 2, integral with the turbine wheel, and a third section of shaft, integral with the pump, the latter section not being shown.
A coupling device, not shown, which can be engaged when stationary only, is provided. between the shaft section 2 and the shaft section integral with the pump wheel. The embodiment of the mechanism which is the object of the invention is arranged between the shaft section 1 and the shaft section 2. It is precisely this mechanism which will be described in detail below.
The two shafts 1 and 2 are therefore arranged coaxially and must be coupled to each other during normal operation of the machine, that is to say when the turbine drives the alternator. The end of the shaft 1 has the form of a flange carrying a toothed ring 3 at its front part. The end of the shaft 2, located opposite this crown 3, also carries a toothed crown 4. The teeth of the crowns 3 and 4 are identical.
These two rings 3 and 4 form part of a toothed coupling device, further comprising an intermediate piece 5 having a toothed ring 6. This intermediate piece 5 is integral with an annular piston 7 capable of sliding axially in, a cylinder of corresponding shape 8, provided in the shaft 2. The toothed ring 6 of the intermediate piece 5 is constantly engaged in the toothed ring 4.
This crown 6 is engaged in the crown 3 only when the shafts 1 and 2 must be coupled to one another. This coupling movement is effected by axially moving the intermediate part 5 under the effect of a pressurized fluid, in general pressurized oil, supplied into part 9 of the annular cylinder 8.
It should be noted that, in order to ensure a true centering of the two adjacent ends of the shafts 1 and 2, the shaft 2 has an extension 10 engaging in a bearing 11, formed in a recess of the shaft 1. In addition , this shaft 1 is tubular and its central recess is used for supplying the pressurized fluid, on the one hand to the coupling device with teeth and to the bearing 11 and, on the other hand, to a synchronization device which will be described below.
As shown in fig. 1, the end of the shaft 1 carrying the toothed ring 3 is extended radially by a flange 12 integral with the shaft 1, bearing friction elements 13 and 14 of the synchronization device. In fact, the flange 12 has on each of its faces an annular recess 15, these recesses constituting two annular cylinders in which the elements 13 and 14 which constitute two annular pistons are capable of sliding.
The flange 12 also carries journals 17 which engage in holes 18 provided in the elements 13 and 14 to make them integral in rotation with the flange 12. On the other hand, the end of the ar bre 2 is integral with a part 19 enveloping the flange 12 integral with the shaft 1;
in reality the part 19 is formed of two parts clamped one against the other around the flange 12 and having, opposite the two faces of said flange 12, two surfaces 20 and 21 on which are intended to rest , when the synchronization device is engaged, the elements 13 and 14 thereof. It should also be noted that the friction surface of the elements 13 and 14, in the form of a ring, is coated with linings 22 made of material with a high coefficient of friction.
In the central recess of the shaft 1 are arranged three coaxial pipes 23, 24 and 25. The central pipe 25 is supplied with oil under constant pressure, which is distributed in a space 26 of the cylinder 8, to maintain in the de-position. brayed the intermediate part 5 of the tooth coupling device. The annular channel between the tubes 24 and 25 is used to supply, via a channel 27, pressurized oil into the chamber 9 of the cylinder 8 when the toothed coupling device is to be triggered.
The annular channel between the internal wall of the shaft 1 and the tube 23 is used for supplying pressurized oil via a pipe 28 to a distributor 29 for controlling the synchronization device. In fact, this distributor 29 controls a pipe 30 intended for supplying the annular cylinders 15 with pressurized oil. The annular space 31 included between the two pipes 23 and 24 is used for the escape of the oil, that is to say for the return thereof to the reservoir.
As shown in the drawing, the distributor 29, which is carried by the shaft 1, is therefore integral with the toothed ring 3; this distributor 29 comprises a drawer 32 having an extension 33 which, in the disengaged position of the toothed coupling device, protrudes relative to the crown 3 (see FIGS. 1 and 2). The drawer 32 has two pairs of adjustment edges: a first pair of edges 34-35 and a second pair of edges 36-37.
The part of the drawer 32 opposite to its extension 33 has a stop 38 intended to limit the movement of the drawer 32 in the direction of the shaft 2. This drawer 32 has, moreover, a bulge 39 constituting an udder capable of sliding in a cylindrical chamber 40 of the distributor. This cylindrical chamber 40 is supplied with oil under constant pressure by a pipe 41 derived from the pipe 25.
The spool 32 of the distributor is hollowed out by a channel 42 making the space between the second pair of adjustment ridges 36-37 communicate with a chamber 43, provided in the body of the distributor 29 and one wall of which is formed by the piston 39.
The operation of the mechanism described above takes place as follows When the machine is in normal operation, the coupling device with teeth 3 to 6 is engaged and the turbine wheel, driven by the water current, transmits its movement to the alternator via shafts 2 and 1. The pump, which is placed below the turbine wheel, is normally uncoupled from the latter.
When the machine has to operate as a pump, the water supply to the turbine wheel is closed. The alternator then operates as a motor supplied by the network. The toothed coupling device 3 to 6 is then disengaged and a brake, not shown, makes it possible to brake and finally to immobilize the turbine and its shaft 2.
While the shaft 2 is immobilized, the toothed coupling device, not shown, provided between this shaft 2 and the pump shaft, can be engaged. When the pump has thus been made integral with the shaft 2, it is possible, by opening the water inlet on the turbine, to launch said shaft 2 at a speed close to that of the alternator driving the shaft 1. On then actuates the friction synchronization device by sending pressurized oil into channel 28.
As the distributor spool is hand held in its lower position by the oil under constant pressure acting in the chamber 40, the adjustment ridges 34-35 are in position to allow the oil arriving through the line 28 to feed. the cylinders 15 passing through the pipe 30. The synchronization device is therefore active and its friction elements 13 and 14 come to rest against the inside of the enveloping part 19 in order to finally drive the latter and, therefore, shaft 2 at a speed equal to that of shaft 1.
At this time, the toothed coupling device, 3 to 6 can be operated in the direction of its engagement. For this, pressurized oil is sent into chamber 9 through line 27. Because the section of piston 7, on which the oil contained in chamber 9 acts, is larger than the section of said piston 7 , on which acts the oil contained in the chamber 26, the intermediate part 5 is moved axially upwards.
When this part 5 approaches the crown 3, it first comes into contact with the extension 33 of the distributor spool 29 (see FIG. 3). This results in a slight movement of the spool 32 causing the cylinders 15 of the synchronization device to be released before the crown 6 engages in the crown 3. This release of the synchronization device allows a relative angular displacement occurs between shafts 1 and 2.
This angular displacement, which takes place at a reduced relative speed, facilitates the engagement of the crown 6 in the crown 3 because, as soon as the teeth of these two crowns 3 and 6 are staggered, the oil pressure acting in chamber 9 pushes the intermediate piece 5 upwards and thus produces the engagement of the toothed coupling device.
As it moves upwards, the intermediate piece 5 pushes back, at the same time, the spool 32 of the dispenser so as to bring it finally into the position shown in FIG. 4. As shown in this figure, in this position the toothed coupling device is fully engaged and the friction synchronization device is in the inactive position due to its oil supply line 30 being exhausted. through a conduit 44.
The shafts 1 and 2 then being coupled, the water supply to the turbine can be stopped and the pump is then driven by the alternator operating as a motor.
When the reverse operation is to be done, that is to say that the shafts 1 and 2 must be uncoupled from each other, the pipe 27 is exhausted, and thus the chamber 9. The intermediate piece 5 is then pushed downwards by the constant pressure acting through: the pipe 25 in the chamber 26 (see FIG. 5).
As soon as the intermediate piece 5 has started its downward movement, the spool 32 of the distributor also moves slightly downwards, until the edge 36 discovers the arrival of pressurized oil from the pipe 28 and intended for the supply of the friction synchronization device and that at the same time the edge 37 partially closes the exhaust channel 44. At this moment, a certain variable pressure is exerted through the intermediary of the channel 42 in the chamber 43 of the distributor.
The pressure exerted in this chamber 43 counteracts the effect of the pressure prevailing in the chamber 40 and thus the distributor spool is maintained in a position of equilibrium shown in FIG. 5. A certain pressure is therefore exerted through line 30 in the cylinders 15 of the friction synchronization device.
This action of the friction synchronization device makes it possible to guarantee a synchronous speed of the shafts 1 and 2 during the entire operation of uncoupling the device with toothed rings 3, 4, 6.
As soon as part 5 has reached its lower position, the oil inlet is closed via line 28, which then allows the oil under constant pressure arriving in the chamber 40 of the distributor to push the drawer down. 32 of said distributor until it occupies the position shown in FIG. 2.
It should be noted that the closing movement of the pipe 28 can be controlled by an electrical contact activated as soon as a feeler, not shown, has determined the arrival of the intermediate part 5 in its lower position.
In the foregoing description, the mechanism described has been assumed to be mounted in a hydroelectric machine of particular operation. However, it is understood that a similar mechanism could be mounted in any other machine in which two coaxial shafts must be coupled or uncoupled from one another while one of the two is in motion.
