La fig. 1 est une élévation partielle en coupe de la pièce à main;
la fig. 2, une coupe horizontale selon II-II de la fig. 1 ;
les fig. 3 et 4 des coupes selon III-III et IV-IV de la même figure;
Device for fixing a tool on a handpiece
The present invention relates to a device for fixing a tool on a shaft of a handpiece actuated by a fluid, characterized in that it comprises, arranged in a recess of the shaft, a sleeve divided into strips in which is introduced the tool and means tightening these strips on the tool for a determined position of this sleeve in said recess, so as to lock this tool in the sleeve.
The drawing represents in these various figures an embodiment of the object of the present invention applied to a handpiece actuated by a fluid:
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional elevation of the handpiece;
fig. 2, a horizontal section along II-II of FIG. 1;
figs. 3 and 4 of the sections along III-III and IV-IV of the same figure;
fig. 5 is a detail of this handpiece.
The handpiece shown comprises a tubular body 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2), a head 2 fixed at its end and having a recess 3 which is closed by a cover 4 articulated on this body. A turbine 5, supplied with pressurized air by the body 1, is pivoted in this recess, and rotates a dental tool, not shown, fixed to a shaft 6 integral with the turbine.
The body 1 of the handpiece contains a duct 7 supplying the turbine with pressurized air containing, in the vaporized state, the oil for lubricating the bearings. In this conduit 7 is disposed a second conduit 8 in which circulates pressurized water.
This duct 8 passes through a branching 7a of the duct 7 and opens out with the latter at the lower part of the head of the handpiece. Water from conduit 8 is ejected into the stream of pressurized air leaving conduit 7a and forms an aqueous refrigeration emulsion directed onto the dental tool.
A nozzle 7b arranged at the end of the duct 7 projects the pressurized air onto the blade of the turbine 5. The expanded air contained in the recess 3 is returned to the atmosphere through a passage 9a, from the inside 9 of the body 1 and from openings made at the end, not shown, of the handpiece.
The recess 3 is divided into three cylindrical compartments 3a, 3b and 3c in which take place respectively a ball bearing 10, the turbine 5 and a second ball bearing 11. These bearings are of different dimensions, the bearing furthest from the dental tool having dimensions greater than those of the bearing closest to this tool, so as to resist the forces acting transversely on the shaft 6.
The effect of these transverse forces is further compensated by an elastic suspension of these bearings inside the handpiece. To this end, the outer cages of the bearings are driven into leaf springs 12 and 13 (FIG. 4) housed in annular recesses 14 and 15 made in the compartments 3a, respectively 3b. These blades arranged all around the outer cages of the bearings, are for example wavy in shape, the end of the waves pressing alternately on the edge of the outer cage of the bearing and on the surface of the corresponding recess.
In a variant (fig. 5), these blades could be folded polygonally, in particular hexagonally; in addition, they can be made of plastic, for example of the Nylon brand.
The internal cages of the bearings 10 and 11 are driven at the ends of the shaft 6 against the shoulders 6a and 6b. The bearings 10 and 11 are cooled and lubricated by the air coming from the recess 3 and passing through their rings in the direction of the cover 4 and the bottom of this recess, the conduits 1 0a and 1 bringing this air into the conduit collective exhaust 9.
The shaft 6 has a recess 16 of cylindrical shape in its upper part, frustoconical in its middle part and again cylindrical, but of smaller diameter than that of the first, in its lower part.
In this recess, is screwed a closure plug 17 pressing by its lower surface on a coil spring 18 whose other end is applied to the base of a sleeve 19 housed in the recess 16.
This socket has a cylindrical cavity 20 into which the end of the dental tool to be fixed on the handpiece is inserted. The outer profile of the sleeve is similar to that of the recess and its surface is cut into strips by slits 21. The sleeve is forced by the spring 18 against the walls of the shaft 6 so that these strips tend to flex. towards the interior of the cavity 20.
To fix a tool in this device, this tool is first introduced into the lower cylindrical part of the sleeve, exerts with the aid of the tool a pressure against the action of the spring 18, so as to compress this spring and moving the bush then, the blades thereof having moved apart, the rod of the tool is allowed to fully penetrate into the cavity 20.
This fixed tool is unlocked by pushing the lower cylindrical part of the sleeve towards the inside of the cavity 16 of the shaft, for example using a blade.
The socket can be made of plastic, for example in trademark material
NYLON or alternatively, in metal, for example stainless steel.
The cover 4, articulated on the handpiece at 22, has a tongue 23 on which is removably disposed a clip 24 intended to keep this cover in the closed position against the thrust exerted by the fluid. The clip is articulated on a lever 25 itself articulated at 26 on the head 2 of the handpiece, and can be moved away from the tongue 23 by rotating this lever clockwise. An annular seal 27 arranged around the periphery of the head 2 ensures, when the cover is closed, the sealing of the handpiece.
The lower face of this cover has an annular seat 28 which fits, when this cover is closed, on the upper face of the outer ring of the bearing 10 so as to prevent any axial displacement of the turbine.
The motive fluid could be water instead of air and the ball bearings replaced by conventional bearings, for example constituted by tungsten cylinders arranged around the ends of the shaft.
