Description

Concrete sleeper for a railway track The present invention relates to a concrete sleeper for a railway track. The concrete sleepers known hitherto had only certain limited advantages compared to wooden sleepers.

To be useful, a concrete sleeper must be easy to handle, be reinforced to be able to withstand high stresses and be electrically insulated. It is also necessary to provide fastening means for the rails, since the usual means for wooden sleepers are not applicable given the differences between wood and concrete.

The object of the invention is to create a concrete crosspiece meeting the requirements mentioned. The sleeper according to the invention is characterized by two concrete bodies connected to each other by a tubular part whose ends have at least one notch and are embedded in said bodies, by an electrically insulated rod and disposed longitudinally in said part,

this rod being subjected to a pre-tension by a tube placed transversely in each body in a housing with wide ends, by an electrically insulated pin and placed in this tube, this pin retaining an elastic bracket intended to fix the rail, on a plate of electrically insulating material serving as a pressure distribution plate, this plate having sides of different thicknesses,

so that the distance between the two rails can be adjusted at will.

An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof in partial section.

Fig. 2 is a plan view.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view on a larger scale, along the line I11-111 of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 is a plan view of the rail fastener, this view also being on a larger scale.

Fig. 5 shows on a larger scale the part of FIG. 1 surrounded by line V, and FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the tubular part connecting the two bodies of the cross member.

The cross member shown comprises two concrete bodies 1, fixed to each other by means of a steel tube 2, the ends of which are embedded in these bodies 1. The ends of this tube 2 each have at least one notch 3 (fig. 6).

These notches 3 prevent the tube 2 from rotating around its own axis when the bodies 1 move, for example during the passage of trains or following a collapse of the platform. An arming rod 4 makes it possible to fix their bodies 1 with respect to each other.

This rod 4, the ends of which are provided with a net passes through the two bodies 1 right through and passes through the tube 2. The ends of this rod 4 carry plates 6 fixed by nuts 5. The rod 4 is thus subjected to a pre-tension transformed by the intermediary of the nuts 5 and the plates 6 into a compression exerted on the entire cross member.

To subject the rod 4 to the desired pre-tension, a known construction device is used, not shown. The cross takes. support against this device, the tension member of which is fixed to one of the ends of the rod 4. The latter has for this purpose holes 17, which are plugged with concrete, after the rod 4- has been under the desired pre-tension. A tube 7 is placed in each body 1 in a hole made transversely.

This hole is placed directly under the part of the body 1 on which the rail 11 rests. The tube 7 has widened ends. Said hole also ends with two enlargements 8 of approximately conical shape. Through tube 7 passes a pin 9 provided with a coating 10 of electrically insulating material. The rail 11 is fixed by means of an elastic bracket 12, the V-shaped parts of which are held by the ends of the pin 9 (fig. 1, 3, 4).

The ends and the middle part of the yoke 12 are curved and rest on the upper faces of the base of the rail 11. The latter is disposed in a groove of the body I, in which is mounted a pressure distribution plate 13.

This plate 13 of electrically insulating material has flanks 14, 15 of unequal thicknesses. Thanks to these plates 13, which can be turned in different directions, the rails can be fixed at different distances. These plates can be manufactured very inexpensively and sets are provided with sides of different thicknesses.

Before fixing the rails 11, plates 16 of electrically insulating material are placed on both ends of the pins 9, which prevent damage to the sides of the bodies 1.

The cross member described has proved to be extremely satisfactory in use. Thanks to the widened ends 8, cracks in the bodies 1 due to the bending of the pins 9 are avoided. These bends can be relatively large if the center of gravity of the rail is not placed exactly above the tube 7.

The cross-member described is manufactured by means of a mold in which the tube 2 and the rod 4 are first placed. The tubes 7 are then placed. After having poured the concrete, the cross-member is placed on a flat support and left the concrete to dry, By means of the device mentioned, one proceeds to the pre-tensioning of the rod 4. For this purpose the plates 6 are first mounted, then the rod is subjected to a tensile force, the plates 6 thanks to the nuts 5 and the rod 4 is released which then exerts pressure on the bodies 1.

This makes it possible to avoid cracks in the bodies 1. In the event that such cracks still occur, the rod 4 tends to hold the body together.

The middle part of the cross member being formed by a steel tube, it can be subjected to bending and torsional forces, which was impossible until now. Said intermediate part can withstand these stresses thanks to the way in which its ends are shaped and embedded in the bodies 1.

Cutting the notches 3 in the ends of the tube 2 can be very complicated and expensive if no special means are provided. The latter can consist of a chainsaw comprising three coaxial wheels, the central wheel being of a diameter greater than the other two. These cut the notches 3 while the central wheel cuts the tubes. The tubes can be rotated between each operation so that the notches 3 located at the ends of the same section are oriented differently.

Thus, the torsional force is easily transmitted.

In addition, the tube 2 can be filled with a filler mass, which is compressed and urges the tube radially, when it is itself subjected to the mentioned pre-tension. The rod 4 is, in this case, fixed in the tube 2 when both are placed in the mold.
