Device for automatic feed of a machine for shrinking metal wire In the shrinking machines known for obtaining, for example, blanks for the branches of glasses, needles, pins, etc., the wire to be shrunk is cut in advance to a determined length, then the sections are introduced one by one into the shrinking machine using hand pliers or mandrels. The progressive advance of the wire requires a skilled workforce.
The object of the invention is a device for automatically feeding a shrinking machine -du metal wire wound on a reel, progressively advancing it in the shrinking machine, withdrawing it from the shrinking machine and to cut the shrunken part exactly at the desired location, and this fully automatically and without requiring supervision.
The feed device according to the invention is characterized by a clamp for tightening the wire to be shrunk, by a device for cutting the wire after shrinking capable of moving transversely with respect to the wire, by a device for advancing. and the retraction of said clamp comprising two compressed fluid cylinders placed in series, by compressed fluid cylinders for opening and closing the clamp, for advancing and retreating the cutting device and for actuating the cutting tools, and by control members of said cylinders arranged so as to cause cyclically the following operations:
rapid advancement of the clamp enclosing the wire by an amount equal to the length of wire to be shrunk, slow advancement of the wire during the shrinking, retraction of the wire by an amount equal to the slow stroke, fitting of the cutting device, execution of the cut, opening of the gripper, retraction of the latter by an amount equal to the rapid stroke, closing of the gripper and retraction of the cutting device.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
The fia. 1 is an overall elevational view of a shrinking machine provided with this feed device.
The fia. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are schematic views showing the operation of the device.
The fia. 7 is a schematic view on a larger scale of the carriage carrying the collet.
The fia. 8 is a schematic view of the carriage carrying the cutting tools.
The fia. 9 is a diagram of the valve controls.
On a frame 1 is mounted the shrinking machine 2 of known construction with its flywheel 3. dragged in rotation by the pulley 3a of the motor 4. On a secondary frame consisting of two parallel sections 11 supported by feet 13, are mounted the various components for advancing and cutting the wire 5.
The wire 5 is wound on a reel 12 with a vertical axis and engages in a straightener 10 with rollers 27 secured to a guide carriage 9 mounted to slide, capable of moving longitudinally relative to the frame and to be returned to the starting position by a cable 30 passing over pulleys 26-28 and tensioned by a counterweight 32. The counterweight can be replaced by a spring.
The wire, guided in a sheath 14, enters a fixed feeler device 15 which subordinates the operation of the feed device to the presence of the wire in the device itself. The wire then passes between the jaws 38; 39 (fig. 1 and 7) of a. clamp 16 mounted on a carriage 17 movable longitudinally in the fixed slide 18, integral with the frame. At the front of the shrinking machine 2 is disposed a carriage 8 movable transversely in the slide 6 and carrying a cutting tool.
The transverse movement of the carriage 8 is achieved by advancing or retracting the piston rod 52 of a pneumatic cylinder 51 (FIG. 8). The clamping and cutting of the wire are carried out by the vertical movement of the piston of a pneumatic cylinder 37 mounted on a support 44 in the form of a lying U. On this U-shaped support of the carriage 8 (FIG. 8) are fixed two pins 45 and 46 one supporting the movable knife 47 and the other a clamping member 48 making it possible to press the wire into the centering groove 50 of the fixed plate 49.
The clamp 16 of the wire 5 is formed by a fixed jaw 38 and a movable jaw 39 housed between two parallel uprights 40 of the carriage 17 (fig. 1 and 7) which can slide lengthwise in a slide 18. The movable jaw 39 is controlled by a clamping cam 41 mounted on an axis 42; this cam being controlled by the rod 43 of the piston of a pneumatic cylinder 34. Two adjustable stops 35, formed by threaded rods with hexagonal head 36, make it possible to adjust the distance between the movable jaw 39 and the fixed jaw 38.
A stirrup 31 integral with the frame supports a hydropneumatic cylinder 33 (working cylinder), the rod 19 of which carries the pneumatic cylinder 20 (supply cylinder). The rod 21 of the piston 55 of this cylinder 20 (fig. 2) is fixed to the stop 22 of the carriage 17 carrying the clamp 16. On the rod 19 is fixed a rod 23 parallel to the cylinder 33 and provided with a stop 24 set to establish the pneumatic control of the return of the piston of the hydro-pneumatic cylinder 33.
On the pneumatic cylinder 20 are fixed several lateral stops 25, the length of which can be adjusted, intended to cooperate with the stopper 22 in order to determine the stroke of the rod of the cylinder piston 20.
Contacts C3 and C4 (fig. 9) are arranged on either side of the pneumatic cylinder 51 (fig. 1 and 8) controlling the transverse movement of the cutting carriage 8, while contacts C5 and C6 are placed at the end. return stroke of the carriage 17 carrying the collet 16.
The electric valves V1, V2 and V3 control the main pneumatic valves VP1, VP2, VP3 and VP4 which determine the engagement of the pneumatic lines at the determined times. The VR valve is a roller valve actuated on the return stroke of the collet 16. R designates a pneumatic movement retarder and I the hydropneumatic cylinder reverser 33.
During the advance stroke, the wire unwound at 12 is straightened at 10, passes through the feeler device 15 which controls the components for the admission of fluid into the hydropneumatic cylinder 33 and the admission of air into the tube. cylinder 20, that is to say the general electrical contact C and the electrical valve Vl. The wire is clamped between the jaws 38, 39 of the collet 16 (FIG. 2). Almost instantaneously the piston 55 of the cylinder 20 pushes the rod 21, which moves the carriage 17 rapidly in order to bring the wire to the entry of the inlet cone 7 of the shrinking machine (FIG. 4).
Then the piston 56 of the hydropneumatic cylinder 33 advances by pushing slowly in front of it and by means of the rod 19, the assembly 20, 55, 21, 22 (fig. 5) while the hammering work is done in 2. At the end of work, the adjustable stop 24 causes the inverter to be brought into play. The piston 56 of the working cylinder 33 reverses pneumatically (FIG. 6).
The valve VR action born during this return stroke controls the starting of the cutting carriage 8 which, at the end of the stroke, closes the contact C4 which causes the closing of the clamping member 48, the switching on of the knife. 47, the opening of the collet 16 and the retraction of the carriage 17 with a delay by the return of the rod 21 of the piston of the cylinder 20. This return takes place without driving the wire. The feed length of the wire therefore corresponds to the stroke of the piston 55 delimited by the stops 22 and 25 (FIG. 6) and is therefore equal to the length of the rapid stroke.
At the end of the return of the carriage 17, the latter actuates contacts C5 and C6 (fig. 1 and 9). Contact C6 bypasses contact C4 and allows clamp 48 to lift up and release the end of the wire. Contact C5 causes the closing of the collet 16 and the retraction of the carriage 8, delayed by a delay mechanism. By the action of the valve V3 the assembly is brought back to the starting position.
By adjusting the electric valves V1, V2, V3 and the pneumatic valves VP1, VP2, VP3, VP4 and VR, the various operations of the cycle can be adjusted; the position of contacts C3, C4, C5 and C6 and of the reverser I determines the engagement of the valves in the start and end positions of the carriages, the collet and the chopped off. The retarder R and the adjustable stops of the inverter I and of the supply cylinder 20 make it possible to adjust the assembly according to the length of the worked rods to be obtained.
The essential function of the feeding device is to ensure in an adjustable manner in time and in route the automatic advance of the wire to be worked in the shrinking machine, then to return the various components to the starting position after work. done, taking into account that the return stroke differs from the feed stroke by the magnitude of the extension due to hammering.
