Description
Process for the preparation of unsaturated alcohols or esters
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of unsaturated alcohols or esters of the formula A-CH = CH-CH = CH-B, I in which the substituents A and B are straight-chain alkyl radicals with a total of 10 to 14 carbon atoms, one of which is terminal carries the hydroxyl group or an esterified hydroxyl group, which is characterized in that an aldehyde of the formula A '- (CH = CH) x-CHO or A' - (CeC) x-CHO with a phosphorane of the formula (C6H5) = CH - (CH = CH) B 'or (C6Hs) 3P = CH- (CeC)
= where either X denotes the number 0 and Y denotes the number 1 or vice versa Y denotes the number 0 and X denotes the number 1 and the radicals A 'and B' represent straight-chain alkyl radicals with a total of 9-13 carbon atoms, one of which is optionally esterified or terminally bears etherified hydroxymethyl group or an optionally esterified carboxyl group or an acetalized formyl group, condensed in an inert solvent and any triple bond present in the condensation product is partially hydrogenated and, if A 'or B' carries an etherified hydroxymethyl group, this is converted into the hydroxymethyl group by acid cleavage, if A. 'or B' carries the carboxyl group or an esterified carboxyl group, converts this into the hydroxymethyl group by reduction and,
if A 'or B' carries an acetalized formyl group, this degrades by acid hydrolysis to the formyl group and the latter is reduced to the hydroxymethyl group.
The phosphoranes of the formula III can be obtained from the corresponding phosphonium halides by reaction with lithium phenyl, lithium butyl, sodium methylate, aqueous sodium hydroxide solution or the like. The phosphonium halides for their part can easily be prepared from the corresponding halides by reaction with triphenylphosphine.
The condensation of the phosphoranes of the formula III with the aldehydes of the formula II is expediently in ether, methylene chloride or hydrocarbons, such as. B. benzene, and carried out at a temperature between 0 "and the boiling point of the solvent. The operation is preferably carried out in a nitrogen atmosphere. The partial hydrogenation of the triple bond can conveniently be achieved with a palladium catalyst poisoned with lead,
The compounds of the formula I obtained by the process according to the invention are distinguished by the fact that they act as attractants on insects.
This property of the compounds allows, above all, a targeted use of insecticides in combination with such attractants. This creates new application possibilities for insecticides.
Compounds of the formula I which have proven to be particularly suitable are those in which neither A nor B has a number of carbon atoms less than 3. Among these preferred compounds are the alcohols having a total of 16 carbon atoms, e.g. B. hexadecadiene- (10,12) -ol- (t), of particular interest.
example 1
262 g of triphenylphosphine and 0.2 g of iodine are dissolved in 800 ml of benzene and a solution of 175 g of 1-bromooctene (2) in 400 ml of benzene is added to the solution at 45 "with stirring. The mixture is then heated to boiling for 6 hours. lets cool and decanted from the oily, microcrystalline residue, which is washed several times with benzene and then dried in vacuo at 50O for 2 hours (332 g); melting point 170-172 ".
A suspension of 51 g of the crude octen- (2) - yl - triphenyl - phosphonium bromide obtained in 350 ml of abs. 98 ml of a 1.15N ethereal solution of lithium phenyl are added dropwise to ether while stirring in a nitrogen atmosphere at 0-5O.
The mixture is then stirred for a further two hours at room temperature and 24.8 g of cs-acetoxy-lauric aldehyde are added to the deep red solution while cooling with ice, the solution becoming lighter. The mixture is heated to the boil for two hours, the brown-yellow precipitate which has precipitated is filtered off and washed several times with ether. The combined filtrates are washed neutral with water, dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated in vacuo at 30 °. The crude 1-acetoxy-eicosadiene (12.14) obtained (34 g, UV absorption maximum at 232 m) is mixed with 120 ml of 5% strength alcoholic sodium hydroxide solution and heated to boiling in a nitrogen atmosphere for two hours.
Allow to cool, dilute with 400 ml of water and extract with ether. The ether extract is washed neutral with water, dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo.
The obtained eicosadiene- (12, 14) -ol- (1) (30 g) is distilled in a high vacuum at 170-1800. A pale yellowish distillate is obtained (UV absorption maximum at 232 m,; act. H 0.96; the IR spectrum shows characteristic bands at 3.0, 6.08, 9.51, 10.22 and 10.58 Alles). The product obtained can be purified by chromatography on aluminum oxide.
Example 2
A mixture of 118 g of hexamethylene glycol, 15 g of copper I-bromide and 700 ml of 40% strength hydrobromic acid is heated to 95-100 and extracted continuously with ligroin (boiling range 105-120) for 24 hours. The ligroin extract is shaken with potassium carbonate, filtered off and the 6-bromo-hexanol- (l) is distilled after the solvent has been stripped off in vacuo over a short Vigreux column (116 g, boiling point 120 112 mm).
The 6-bromo-hexanol- (1) dissolved in 300 ml of benzene is added to a solution of 185 g of triphenylphosphine in 500 ml of benzene and the mixture is heated to the boil for 8 hours. It is cooled to 10, left to stand at this temperature for 2 hours and the precipitate obtained is decanted off. This is washed twice more with benzene and then dried in vacuo at 40O (220 g).
To a suspension of 120 g (6-hydroxy-hexyl) triphenyl-phosphonium bromide in 500 ml of abs. Ether is added in a nitrogen atmosphere with stirring at 0-5O 265 ml of a 1.15N solution of lithium phenyl in abs. Ather slowly to. The mixture is stirred for 2 hours at room temperature and a solution of 35 g of nonene (2) -al- (1) in 200 ml of abs is added dropwise while cooling with ice. Ether. The mixture is then heated to boiling for 2 hours in a nitrogen atmosphere, cooled and the precipitate which has formed is filtered off with suction, which is washed several times with ether.
The combined filtrates are washed neutral with water, dried over sodium sulfate, the solvent is evaporated off in vacuo and the penta decadiene- (6,8) -ol- (1) is distilled off in a high vacuum at 115 to 1300 (32.8 g; UV- Absorption maximum at 233 m'u; current H 0.90; the IR spectrum shows characteristic bands at 3.02, 6.07, 9.5, 10.22 and 10.59 t ±). The product obtained can be purified by chromatography on aluminum oxide.
