Fig. 4 der Strom Ido.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Bridge-like attenuator regulated by direct current The invention relates to a bridge-like attenuator which can be regulated by direct current and in which diodes are used as regulating elements.
In control loops it is very often necessary to continuously change the attenuation in certain connection paths. As a regulating member, for. B. a diode can be used, its curved current-voltage characteristic is used, which is shown in FIG. The dynamic (alternating current) resistance of the diode Rd =
EMI1.18
= cotg a changes with the position of the working point P.
The dynamic resistance of the diode Rd decreases as the regulation direct current 1d, which flows in the forward direction, increases. By switching on a double diode in the known circuit shown in FIG. 2, requirements for regulating the alternating output voltage U2 of the attenuator as the function of the regulating direct current 1d are given.
The attenuation of the quadrupole in Fig. 2 is then expressed by the following relationship: b - 1n = f (1d). The circuit according to Fig. 2 is very
EMI1.44
often used in transmission technology for compression in the so-called compander. Another known circuit of the regulating member is shown in FIG.
It is a bridge circuit with two differential transformers Trl and Tr2, with the impedance Z1 and four diodes in Graetz full-wave circuit. The course of the relationship
EMI1.60
as a function of 1d is indicated in: FIG. 4.
Assuming that the number of turns of both secondary windings of the input transformer is the same n, = n2, the number of turns of both primary windings of the output transformer is equal to n3 = n4 and the (dynamic) impedance of the diodes Z2 equals the balancing impedance Z1, the electromagnetic The flow in the transformer Tr2 is canceled and the voltage U2 drops to zero. (The attenuation b is therefore oo.) The current Ido corresponds to this state in the diagram in FIG. 4.
In the practical case, the voltage U2 does not drop to zero, as shown by the solid line. If, on the other hand, the impedance of the diodes Z2 differs from the compensation impedance Z1, the voltage U2 increases until the attenuation b reaches the minimum.
The known circuits shown in Figures 2 and 3, however, have certain disadvantages. The system according to FIG. 2 uses only two diodes for reasons of economy, but the practical range of regulation is approximately 10 times smaller than in the case of the systems with four.
Diodes according to FIG. 3, with a greater power consumption also occurring on the one hand from the current source of the regulating direct current 1d and on the other hand from the alternating voltage source EG. The. The system according to FIG. 3 uses four diodes, which is uneconomical and has certain disadvantages in cascading the attenuators if a higher regulation range is to be achieved.
The circuit according to the invention utilizes the advantages of using only two diodes, while maintaining or even improving the properties of the systems with four diodes shown in FIG. 3.
In particular, this circuit enables a balanced state (U2 -> 0) to be created even in the case when the current Ido = 0, so that the arrangement according to the invention can also be used as an expander at the same time, where the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Attenuation b decreases with increasing Jd from 1d> 0.
The essence of this arrangement is that in the regulation branch only two diodes are switched on in such a way that they form a push-pull circuit for alternating current and a parallel circuit for regulating direct current, each of the diodes being bridged with an auxiliary impedance, the value of which is balanced together with the diode impedance State of the bridge circuit is equal to half the value of the balancing impedance.
In order to be able to describe the invention as precisely as possible using exemplary embodiments, the following figures are attached to the description: Fig. 1: Characteristic curve of the diode, Fig. 2: Known circuit of the attenuator with two diodes, Fig. 3: Known circuit of the attenuator with four Diodes, Fig. 4: Course of the damping of the member according to Fig. 3 as a function of the regulating direct current, Fig. 5: An embodiment of the damping member of the bridge-like type according to the invention, Fig. 6:
Another possible simplification of the circuit of the damping element according to the invention, FIG. 7: Another possible simplification of the damping element according to the invention, FIG. 8:
A cascade connection of two attenuators according to the invention. At the beginning, the mode of operation of the known circuits in FIGS. 2 and 3 was described with the aid of the diode characteristic and representation of the attenuation curve of the element as a function of the regulating direct current 1d in FIG.
Insofar as elements are used in the exemplary embodiments of the arrangement according to the invention which are the same as those in the known arrangements shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, they are also denoted by the same reference symbols.
In FIG. 5, EG represents the alternating current source connected to the primary winding of the input transformer Tri. The balancing impedance Z1 is connected in series with the secondary winding ni of the input transformer Trl and one pole of the current source of the regulating direct current 1d is connected to the center of the secondary winding n2.
The secondary winding n2 of the input transformer Trl, which is connected by two diodes to the primary winding n3 of the output transformer Tr2, at its center. the second pole of the current source of the regulation direct current 1d is connected, forms the regulation branch of the bridge. The secondary winding ni of the input transformer Tri with the balancing impedance Zl, which is crossed to the primary winding n4 of the output transformer Tri, forms the balancing branch of the bridge.
The voltage U2 is the output voltage of the attenuator on the secondary winding of the output transformer Tr-.
The fundamental difference compared to the circuit according to FIG. 3 lies in the circuit of the diodes in the regulation branch, which are connected in such a way that they form a push-pull circuit for the alternating current component, but are connected in parallel from the standpoint of the regulation current. The direct current source of the regulating current is to the middle of the secondary winding n2 of the input transformer Trl and to the middle of the primary winding n :; of the output transformer Tr2 connected.
Each of the diodes is bridged with an auxiliary impedance, whereby the impedance of the diode together with the auxiliary impedance must be equal to 1 / "> Z :, in order to meet the condition of a balanced bridge in a wide frequency range, even with the requirement for Ido - 0 (Expandor From the standpoint of the alternating current, the two diodes work in a push-pull circuit, which is known to suppress the non-linear distortion caused by the even harmonics.
A simplified circuit according to the invention is shown in FIG. 6. Because the secondary winding n of the input transformer Tri is connected in series with the balancing impedance Z1 crossed between the diodes and the primary winding n3 of the output transformer Tr2, the winding n3 of the output transformer is common for the regulating branch and the balancing branch of the link. As a result, the primary winding n4 in the output transformer Tr is omitted.
A further simplification of the attenuator according to the invention is shown in FIG. 7, in which the secondary winding n 1 of the output transformer Tri has also been omitted. The windings n2 and n3, which together serve the regulating branch and the compensating branch, are mutually crossed with the aid of the load impedance Z1, which is evenly distributed in both arms of the cross at 1/2 Z1.
However, compared to the solution according to FIG. 6, this solution requires a greater power requirement from the direct current regulation source.
To achieve a larger regulatory area, it is possible to cascade two or more regulatory systems. A particularly favorable circuit is shown in FIG. 8, which is formed by a cascade connection of two basic systems according to FIG. 6, but uses only two transformers sparingly. The area of regulation here extends beyond the ratio of 1: 1000.
In the regulating branch of the system according to FIG. 6, it would also be possible to omit the output transformer if the regulating direct current were allowed to flow through the load.
