Description

gleichzeitig meist sehr adstringenten Gerbstoffanteilen keine Angriffs- möglichkeiten.

Process for the production of leather In the production of vegetable and combined chrome-vegetable leather, leather color plays an important role, especially when cheap, dark-tanning tanning agents such as chestnut, myrobalans, valonea and mangrove are used. The color of the leather is particularly important in the combined chrome-vegetable tanning process. In addition to the dark color of the vegetable tanning agents, the green color of the chrome tanning agents is noticeable in this case. The olive-tinged, dirty mixed color of the leather produced in this way significantly reduces its value.

It is now customary to favorably influence the leather color by pretreating the pelts with suitable, light-tanning synthetic tanning agents and also by using synthetic tanning agents in the vegetable tanning process. There are numerous synthetic tanning agents of various constitution which, due to their special properties, are used with success as pretanning agents for vegetable leather.

It has now been found that surprisingly light-colored leather is obtained if pelts are treated with products made from mixtures of chrome tanning salts and those synthetic tanning agents which react with methylol compounds from monohydric and / or polyhydric phenols, polynuclear phenols or phenolic resins with sulfites or bisulfites were made, and then tanned with vegetable and / or synthetic tanning agents.

In contrast to the method according to the invention, pretanning with corresponding combinations of chromium (III) salts with other synthetic tanning agents, namely those whose solubilizing group is a sulfo group located directly on the aromatic nucleus, give little or no lightening and leveling of the leather color .

The influence of such products on the leather color is no greater than the effect that can be achieved through the use of such sulfonated synthetic tanning agents alone, without the use of the chrome component. The effectiveness of the products described above from mixtures of chromium (III) salts with synthetic tannins obtained by condensation of methylol compounds with z.

   B. sulphites were produced, is based, among other things, probably on the saturation of the leather surface with complex compounds that formed when the two components are joined together. The pelts prepared by pretreatment with such products provide the dark,

at the same time, mostly very astringent tannin components, no potential for attack. The extraordinary influence of these new products on the surface of the peel is also expressed in the hardening of the grain, which makes it particularly resistant to pulling and flexing of the grain (mechanical stress on the grain).

These favorable influences of the pretreatment make it possible to carry out the vegetable tanning immediately in concentrated tanning broths, which is equivalent to a substantial acceleration of the tanning process and thus an extremely favorable design of production.

The special properties of the leather pretanned with these products are not, as has been shown, due to the individual effects of the two components. They are also not, as has been confirmed by attempts, to be explained by the acid reserve of the chromium (III) salts. Rather, it is a matter of a specific effect of the complex compounds formed when the components are put together.

Namely, if the pretreatment is carried out with the individual constituents of the mixture used in accordance with the invention one after the other, leather is obtained after vegetable tanning which has no or only a slight improvement in color and color evenness. On the other hand, the simultaneous use of the two mixture components, with the same range as in the corresponding comparative tests, leads to exceptionally light leathers with an extremely uniform leather color. Irregularities in the scar as well as scar damage are largely evened out.

The effectiveness of the new products is largely determined by the inherent tanning properties of the synthetic components. Oxyphenyl methanesulphonic acid, as a monomolecular sulphomethylation product, has no inherent tanning capacity and is practically ineffective even in combination with chrome tanning salts. The by sulfite or.

Bisulphite-solubilized products with medium degrees of condensation which have a satisfactory inherent tanning capacity in the pH range around 4 are also effective in mixtures with chromium salts in the sense of the invention.

The compatibility and stability of the new products in aqueous solutions depends on the properties of both components of the mixture. In the case of chromium salts, the neutral salt content and the basicity have a decisive influence, whereby the compatibility and resistance in aqueous solutions decrease sharply with increasing neutral salt content and increasing basicity. The synthetic component of the products used according to the invention causes a deterioration in compatibility and resistance as the particle size increases.

Example 1 100 parts by weight of beef pelt were pretreated in a barrel with 250 parts of water and 3 parts by weight of the product described below, following the waterworks customary for floor leather (liming, descaling, pickling). The product was added in 3 portions at 1/2 hour intervals.

The tanning was carried out with a vegetable tanning mixture of the following composition: 60 parts of chestnut pure tanning agent, normal 20 parts of mimosa pure tanning agent 10 parts of Valex pure tanning agent 10 parts of myrobalanic tanning agent a) in the color range 50 parts by weight of the pretanned, unrinsed pelts were in driven in a color course.

The first (weakest) color consisted of a 6 B6 strong tanning liquor of the composition given above. b) in the barrel 50 parts by weight of the pretanned pelt were tanned with 35% pure tanning material of the above-mentioned mixture at a liquor length of 400%, based on the pelt weight. Half of the vegetable tanning agent was offered immediately, the rest in three portions at an interval of 2 hours. The pelts were fully tanned after a full 3 days.

As usual, the leathers were briefly soaked, oiled and dried. Parallel to these tannings, comparative tests were carried out with the same pelt material, but without the pretanning according to the invention. The pretreated leathers were characterized by an extraordinarily light leather color and an even texture of the grain. The corresponding comparative tests showed, in addition to the dark, uneven leather color, a strong grain or milled grain.

Composition of for the pretreatment product 400 parts by weight of a mixture of phenol and cresol (1: 4) are added in the presence of 20 parts by weight 40% Sodium hydroxide solution with 490 parts by volume of 30 formaldehyde condensed for 3 hours at 65-70 C. After adding 425 parts by weight of sodium bisulfite solution 40: and 10 parts by weight of methanol, the mixture is heated to 95 ° C. and kept at this temperature until it is soluble. The product, cooled to 80 C, is aftertreated with 30 parts by weight of urea.

450 parts by weight of the condensation product produced in this way are mixed with a solution of 300 parts by weight of chrome alum in 300 parts by weight of hot water and dried by spraying.

Example 2 100 parts by weight of beef pelt were hung in a pit with a 1.5 Be strong solution of the pretanning agent described in Example 1 after the usual waterworks for floor leather. After 24 hours (with very strong material after about 36 hours) the new product has evenly bitten through the nakedness, which can be recognized by the blue color of the cut. With ongoing use of the pretanning liquor, a steady equilibrium is established with an improvement of 6% of the pretanning material, based on the pelt driven in.

The unrinsed pelts, coming from the pretreatment, are placed in a 6 Be strong solution of normal chestnut and finally tanned in a 10 B6 strength solution of the same tanning agent. The fully tanned leather is watered, oiled and dried as usual.

Compared to an untreated comparative experiment, these combined chrome-vegeta bilically tanned leather also show all the advantages as already mentioned under Example 1. Another advantage of the semi-chrome bottom leather produced by this method is that it can be used wherever there is a lack of barrel or barrel tanning cannot be carried out for other reasons. In addition, operations are saved in this representation, such.

   B. the pimple and the neutralization, in the chrome tanning that otherwise precedes the vegetable tanning. The pretreated leathers are characterized by their great flexibility. Example 3 100 parts by weight of a sheep pelt, prepared as usual in the water workshop, are drummed with 200 parts of water and 5 parts by weight of the product described below for 3 hours. A concentrated solution of 15 parts by weight of cold-soluble, sulfated quebrachos is introduced into the same liquor and the pelts are tanned in a barrel overnight.

The rinsed and, as usual, licked sheepskin leather are characterized by their light leather color, whereby the often criticized red cast of the leather tanned with quebracho is not present. In addition, the pretreated leathers have better body and tear resistance. Composition of the product used in the above pretanning 188 parts by weight of phenol are mixed with 100 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde and 2.5 parts by weight of concentrated hydrochloric acid and refluxed for 2 hours.

A solution of 100 parts by weight of sodium bisulfite, 20 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide, 100 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde and 75 parts by weight of water is introduced into the low molecular weight resin and the reaction mixture is refluxed for 6 hours. After cooling, it is neutralized with a strong acid. 200 parts by weight of the resulting condensation product are mixed ver with a solution of 15 parts by weight of chromium sulfate in 15 parts by weight of water.

Example 4 1200 parts by weight of an angled brand sole leather were mixed with 700 parts of water and 60 parts by weight of the product described under Example 1 and drummed for 3 hours. The leather aftertreated in this way was briefly soaked, oiled and dried. Compared to the untreated leather, the treated insole leather has a light, even leather color. At the same time, the unbound tannin is strongly fixed and the resistance to perspiration is increased considerably.
