On chauffe à 350 C pendant 15 minutes.

Process for the rapid production of translucent or transparent plates
The present invention relates to a process for rapidly obtaining translucent or transparent polyester-based plates, in which a polymerizable unsaturated organic solvent is copolymerized at a temperature between 20 and 450 ° C. and in the presence of a catalyst. with an unsaturated polycondensate obtained by reacting a polyhydroxylated organic compound with an α "ss-unsaturated organic diacid or with such an acid combined with a saturated organic diacid.
The licensee has observed that it is possible to quickly obtain such plates without cracks, by carrying out the copolymerization in the presence of a halogenated phosphate of an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, of a phosphate or of a halogenated alkyl phthalate or of halogenated aryl and a naphthenate or metal octoate.
In addition, the plates thus obtained are perfectly colorless when a pigment or a dye is not added to the copolymerization mixture.
As the halogenated phosphate of an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, it is possible to use either a dihalogenated phosphate of formula
EMI1.1
wherein X and Y are halogens and R is a monovalent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical, such as methyl dibromophosphate, ethyl dibromophosphate, phenyl dibromophosphate, tolyl dibromophosphate, methyl dichlorophosphate, dichlorophosphate ethyl, phenyl dichlorophosphate, tolyl dichlorophosphate, ethyl bromochlorophosphate, phenyl bromochlorophosphate, etc., or a monohalogenated phosphate of the formula
EMI1.2
in which X is halogen, R and R 'are monovalent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, such as:
dimethyl bromophosphate, diethyl bromophosphate, diphenyl bromophosphate, ditolyl bromophosphate, dimethyl chlorophosphate, diethyl chlorophosphate, ditolyl chlorophosphate, dixylyl chlorophosphate, methyl-ethyl bromophosphate, methyl-bromophosphate phenyl-tolyl, methyl-butyl chlorophosphate, phenyl-xylyie chlorophosphate, methyl-phenyl bromophosphate, ethyl-phenyl chlorophosphate, etc.
As the halogenated alkyl or aryl phosphate, there may be used phosphates of the formula PO4 (R ") 5 wherein R" is halogenated alkyl or halogenated aryl, each R "being the same or different, such as tribromomethyl, tribromoethyl phosphate, trichloromethyl phosphate, trichloroethyl phosphate, tribromophenyl phosphate, trichlorophenyl phosphate, bromomethyl-dichloromethyl phosphate, bromomethyl-chloromethyl-iodomethyl phosphate, bromomethyldibromethyl phosphate, bromomethyl-dichlorophenyl, chloromethyl-chlorethyl chlorobutyl phosphate, bromomethylbromoethyl-chlorobutyl phosphate, chlorethylchlorobutyl-chlorophenyl phosphate, bromomethyl-chlorethyl-iodophenyl phosphate, etc.
As halogenated alkyl or halogenated aryl phthalate, it is possible to use all the phthalates of formula
C6H4 (COOR ") 2 wherein R" is halogenated alkyl or halogenated aryl, each R "being the same or different, such as: dibromoethyl phthalate, dichlorethyl phthalate, dichlorophenyl phthalate, bromethyl phthalate chlorethyl, chlorethyl-chlorophenyl phthalate, etc.
Among the metal naphthenates and octoates, mention may be made of cobalt naphthenate, manganese naphthenate, iron naphthenate, copper octoate, lead octoate, zirconium octoate, etc.
The phthalic or phosphoric ester may consist of a phthalate or a phosphate of aliphatic or aromatic alcohol, among which there may be mentioned dibutyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, diamyl phthalate, diphenyl phthalate, sodium phosphate. triethyl, trimethyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, etc.
The proportions in the composition of each of the constituents can vary as a function of the nature of the constituents and of the final reactivity that it is desired to obtain, the quantities being all the greater as the desired reactivity is great. Under these conditions, the halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon phosphate can be used in an amount of 0.5 to 40 / by weight of the total weight of the composition, the phosphate or the halogenated alkyl or halogenated aryl phosphate or phthalate in general at an amount of 0.5 to 5 / o by weight of the total weight of the composition, the naphthenate or metal octoate usually at a rate of 0.15 to 1 O / o by weight of the total weight of the composition and the phthalic or phosphoric ester in an amount sufficient to obtain 100 g of composition.
The solution thus obtained keeps perfectly on condition of being preserved from humidity and light.
The compositions can be used with any polyester resin, but more particularly with resins of medium or high reactivity. The amounts of composition to be added to the polyester resin are advantageously between 0.3 and 8 O / o by weight of the weight of polyester resin.
As catalyst, it is possible to use the usual catalysts for the copolymerization of polyester resins, for example organic peroxides such as benzoyl peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, tertiary dibutyl peroxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, cumene hydroperoxide, etc. etc., used singly or in combination. The proportions of catalyst can vary from 0.005 to 2 O / o by weight relative to the weight of polyester resin.
It is possible to add to the mixture of the polyester resin with the composition and the catalyst, gelation promoters, such as, for example, amines such as N-butyldiethylamine, hydrochlorides of amines such as diethyl-aminoethanol hydrochloride or mercaptans such than laurylmercaptan. These promoters are added in proportions which can range up to 2 O / o by weight of polyester resin.
Plasticizing polyester resins can also be incorporated into the mixture, in order to make the plates easier to work, for example in milling, cutting, etc. They are added in proportions varying from 10 to 30 O / o by weight of the total weight of polyester resin. It is also possible to add to the mixture light stabilizers, dyes and, in order to obtain certain effects, pigments, in particular phosphorescent, fluorescent or pearlescent pigments, in the proportions usually used with polyester resins.
The mixing of the polyester resin, of the composition, of the catalyst and optionally of the plasticizing polyester resin, of the gelation promoter and of the dye, can be carried out by any known means, and preferably by avoiding bubbles. The mixture obtained is then poured into a mold with self-molding properties, such as for example a mold of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polytetrafluoroethylene, chromed steel, polished aluminum, then heated between 20 and 45 "C for times varying from 10 to 45 minutes.
By the method of the invention it is thus possible to obtain transparent plates, plates with particular decorative or utilitarian effects. We can also after treatment by the usual techniques such as barrel roll, get pimples.
Examples of copolymerization of polyester resins, according to the process which is the subject of the invention, are given below by way of indication.
At 2550 g of polyester resin obtained from 1 molecule of phthalic anhydride, 1.5 molecules of maleic anhydride and propylene glycol in stoichiometric proportions, dissolved in styrene, 450 g of plasticizing polyester resin obtained from 1.5 molecules of maleic anhydride, 2 molecules of adipic anhydride, 1 molecule of ethylene glycol and 2.5 molecules of diethylene glycol, dissolved in the system. The mixture is poured into a flat chrome steel mold, 75 cm long, 30 cm wide and 0.3 cm high, driven by an alternating rocking movement ensuring the orientation of the mother-of-pearl flakes. Heated to 350 C for 15 minutes. After demoulding, a plate is obtained which makes it possible, by cutting, to make tableware items.
